While games developed with the Unreal engine aren't exclusively Darkside oriented, the related genres do leverage the engine regularly. Games like Gears of War, BioShock, Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge, Deus Ex and Borderlands to name a few have all used the engine in one of its previous iterations.

So, I thought some folks might be interested in where the industry will be heading with the release of the Unreal Engine 5 for the newest "Next Gen" graphics. While the demos they show are done through the Playstation 5, the engine will be released with the capacity to be used on all next gen consoles as well as PC's and even Android.

There's a fair amount of tech speak in this vid, but the payoff is seeing how amazing the potential for detail and realism will be for upcoming games.

Time to start Graphics Card shopping grin

I watched this earlier and it's pretty impressive! I already have a graphics card that can handle it... just haven't installed it yet.

It's both exciting for gamers and a bit scary for small/solo/indie devs like me haha!
The most impressive in this demo is the use of global illumination, infinite polygons, the level of details... While I could do all of these things already with a rendering engine like Mentalray or Vray in 3dsmax (with a renderfarm ideally), thinking that now it is done in realtime is just amazing. This is going to change a lot of things.......

Could someone please pick my mouth up off the floor??!! That was totally amazing. Soon our virtual worlds will BE our worlds and that's pretty scary.

Oh Joy!

Looks like I'll have to start thinking about raiding my bank account for that new gaming laptop! grin Not sure If I'll get another Alienware, although this one has certainly earned its keep over the years -- still going strong after 6 years and managing most of the more recent games I have. It's a pretty tough machine.

Time to start comparison shopping.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Alienware has definitely lost it's shine after it was purchased by Dell. ASUS, MSI and other laptop makers have kind of taken over. Read a LOT of reviews too!

I bought my Alienware after Dell bought it, but it came with some bells and whistles that have been discontinued. It is still a great machine, and it has those wonderful and ridiculous nerd lights that change colour in rotation.

There is a lot more competition out there, true, and much of it less expensive, too.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

All I can say is Wow !! And again Wow !!

Although sadly, I think it will probably be a long while before a suitable graphics card can be added to my "need to purchse" list whistle
