Sometimes good things happen to good people. With all the news stories about all the bad things going on in the world, I though maybe we could share some good and positive things. Please post a link to a story or even better, add a story of your own! I'm going to start it off with both. My wonderful neighbor snow blowed my driveway for us last night during the blizzard. Good Deed of the Day

Well my story is kind of sad but it does have a happy ending.
On Saturday my neighbors bought a puppy for their daughters third birthday party. During the party one of the kids left the door open and the dog got out and was hit by a car. I was not at the party but from what I heard it was awful because some of the kids saw the aftermath and tears were flowing everywhere.
On Sunday Grandma and Grandpa were there all day and when I stopped by in the morning after I heard what happened I thought my heart was going to shatter seeing Mom and her daughter crying. The Grandparents were there because they had already planned a Super Bowl party for Dads co-workers and they were there all day preparing food for the party.
OK here is where it gets better. Sunday morning I went and purchased their puppies brother and during the game I snuck down and put the puppy inside their house. I still have not talked to them because I don't want them to know that I was involved and I think this will be a story that their daughter will tell for the rest of her life.
I had trouble even getting to sleep last night because I was so excited thinking about a little girl who now gets to have the love of a dog in her life. Nobody has any idea where the puppy came from and I am loving it.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

How wonderful! And I'd be like you - no one knowing would be the best part! Maybe you can tell them some day. Have you heard any stories about how the little girl reacted when she saw the new puppy?

Thanks for sharing Ana. Many years back we had a snowstorm on Thanksgiving Day and my neighbor was suppose to travel to her mother's with her husband and new born baby. It was to dangerous to drive that far so they stayed home. I called her to see if they had left and she told me they weren't going so I invited them to join our family for Thanksgiving Dinner. She was reluctant at first but I insisted. Over the years Maddy and I became the best of friends until she died of colon cancer in 2008. Every year she would remind me of how special that Thanksgiving was for her and every year I think of her and how special a friend she was. She believed in Angels and now she is one too.

I love that story Gerry. Isn't it funny how the little things like that can mean so much in life? Well here is my update. Nobody has any idea where this puppy came from and I'm told that the little girl has not left his side since he showed up. I'm going to lay low for a few more days to not arouse any suspicion and hopefully by Friday I will stop by and see what they named the little fellow.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

As a result of my recent divorce, most of the people I could usually call for help are no longer available. These days I'm stuck in a wheelchair while a broken bone in my left foot heels. Except for my 4-legged pal, Huey, I live alone. When my neighbor realized what happened, he added my dog to his daily dog-walking chores. Also, I had a script waiting at Walgreens and needed a few other items. Another neighbor I met during summer, both of us walking our dogs, and she mentioned she worked at our village hall. Did some on-line investigating, found her work number and called her. She was more than happy to help out. Tho she normally walks to work, she had her daughter pick her up. They stopped to get the items I needed and brought them to my home. She had also purchased a small bouquet of flowers for me. Friends are great
Life's a puzzle; one piece at a time.

When we decided with my first husband,to leave everything(family, jobs, home) to go and live and work to another town(bad decision), it was a small village with tourism but with no friends and family. The first year we stayed in a hotel room(which we work),and (first year of marriage also). I had a break down Then for my good luck,we rent a house. The couple and especially the woman became a second mother for me. She help me and take care of me for 10 years. She became my family and help me with my divorce. Now we chat on the phone since I left and married again and leave this place. I never forget what she did for me.

Thinking on My Feet.
A weekend break found us the Fen country, charming as the wetlands were we were bound for the city of Ely. The wife had suggested a visit to the cathedral and maybe a spot of shopping. I sighed, and mentally checked our bank balance; I knew her interest in ancient piles was severely limited. My fears were justified, after the morning spent in delighting half of the shopkeepers in the city; I rebelled and confiscated her credit cards.
We walked in stony silence to the house of God, its honey walls shimmering in the afternoon sun. Once inside I tried to lighten the atmosphere that had grown between us, but the stone effigies of long dead knights and their consorts bought little response, even the serenity of the Ladies Chapel failed to stir her interest; she bore the glint of revenge in her eyes.
A mixed group of Japanese and American tourists shuffled to a halt before a wooden model enclosed in a glass case. The young woman guide cleared her throat and pointed to the reproduction. “In the fifteenth century the old stone Norman tower collapsed and a replica was built of wood; this is a model of the tower” A large middle aged Texan wanted to know more, The poor girl floundered, desperately searching through the notes on her clip board My wife moved in for the kill “Can my husband help? He is an expert on medieval architecture” She smiled. “I am sure he will be happy to answer all your questions” Knowing as much about the subject as I do about French embroidery; I searched my memory banks in desperation. A faintly remembered year old documentary came to the rescue. I pointed to the model. “You will note sir the structure of the tower” The Texan peered through the glass case. “Not a screw or a nail in sight is there” “You’re right sir” he acknowledged “Dowels and green timber; as it seasoned the tower acquired twice its strength” Growing in confidence I rambled on. I finished to the polite applause from the Japanese and a bone crunching handshake from the Texan.
”My hero” grinned my wife as we left. “Oh it was nothing” I replied “Shops again I think, there’s a book I want” “Medieval Architecture?” She laughed “No, Lucrezia Borgia’s Potions and Poisons” I smiled. ******************************************************
I write a few short stories and a bit of poetry and this one is more or less true. Hope you enjoy.
Cari.

Quick puppy update: I had originally planned to stop by this weekend and see the puppy but earlier today I walked past their house and just thinking about seeing the puppy again made me pretty emotional so I might just wait a few more days. I will keep you informed. Did anyone see this story earlier this week? True Love

This is a bit different because it is on a large scale and so may not seem so personal. There were some very important loans of equipment by corporations and the space was the Key Arena on the Seattle Center grounds (where the Space Needle is), but all of the people providing the care and assisting the patients were volunteers. For each of the 1,450 volunteers, it was very personal. I wasn't able to volunteer last year but will be there this year. The Seattle/King County Clinic took in 3,400 patients over 4 days and provided to each of them the most pressing medical, dental and vision care.

Bob. People helping people never gets old. Puppy Update: So I get home from work today and the doorbell rings. I go to open the door and standing on my porch are mom and her daughter with the new puppy. I'm thinking how did they find out? I open the door and when the puppy sees me he goes nuts. I know my secret is out. Mom says " Dusty sure seems to like you." I said 'The reason everyone likes dogs is because they love everybody." Mom then goes on to explain that they know someone on our street is a real life Santa Claus. She said that they don't know who cared enough about their family to do this but that they are thanking everyone on the entire block (about 15 houses). I just said that this really is a great neighborhood to live in as Dusty continues to give my face a tongue bath. Mom then just looks me in the eye for a very uncomfortable 20 seconds that seemed like a month. Not knowing what to do I said that I hate to dust you but I was on a phone call when you rang the bell and that they were still on hold. I hand the puppy back to her daughter and this is where I thought the gig was up for sure. Her daughter gives the dog a big kiss on the head and I struggled to not let Mom see my reaction. Growing up I always heard that it is better to give than receive. That little three year old face just proved to me just how true that is. It seems to me that the great puppy mystery will never be solved.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

I thought I would share one more thing about the clinic that I know will be of interest with all the dog lovers here...that includes me by the way A lot of the work that was done was dental work and a lot of the people getting the dental work were extremely anxious. They hadn't been to dentists much in their lives and it was a scary new experience for them. Trained dogs provided by Hope Animal-Assisted Crisis Response helped these people overcome their anxiety and get the free dental assistance that they would otherwise have been too afraid to get. This was one example of many where something that seemed like an optional but nice addition, turned out to be a big help in providing care. Here's a picture of a dog helping from the clinic's facebook page.

That is an awesome story SpaceQ! There are a lot of questions I have to both the mom and the classmates before I figure out who to be agitated with for letting the boy think no one wanted to be there, but I am thrilled it had a happy ending!

Ana,
We have had so much snow and cold that I have not seen much of the family or the puppy lately. I heard a story that at the Friday night euchre game last week that the puppy was a big hit "dancing" to Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jebsen.
