Hi, everyone!

I'm trying to play as much of "Dark Fall" as I can and, hopefully, finish it before "Conspiracies" is on the shelves at the end of the week; however, at the rate I'm going, chances are slim to nil <G>!

I'm at the very beginning of the game. I listened to my brother's message and am in the train tunnel. I hopped up onto the platform and, at the suggestion of my "invisible friend", I turned on the lights and power. Now to my problem! I can't see an arrow that allows me to back out of the scene. I can move left and right two or three times before ending up back at the electrical panel, but no down arrow.

I thought perhaps I'd missed something, so I referred to the mini walkthru at the back of the game manual (which I normally never do), and it says that I should "exit this view". The only thing mentioned in the mini walkthru that I didn't do was turn around to see who was talking to me before clicking on the lightbulb and electrical panel.

Thanks!

Susan

When you turned on the power, you could pull back out of close up view.
When you see the power box and that wall, you can turn around and go out of the shed.

Is this what you're trying to do?

Hi, MaG!

That's what I was trying to do. After I turned on the light and power, I could go left and right, but there was no "down" arrow. I started over and turned around to see my "invisible friend", as well as read the newspaper, and when I turned on the power and light, the "down" arrow was there.

Now I'm wandering around the various rooms in the hotel, but can't seem to do anything with what I've been able to interact with. Maybe I'll follow the mini walkthru until I, hopefully, get a feel for what I'm supposed to do.

I think I should have played "Dark Fall" before "The Black Mirror" <G>!

Thanks :-)!

Susan

That is what I did the first time I played it. Just went around and looked - checked anything I can see.

Best to check the depot office before the hotel though. wave

Hi, MaG!

I think I entered the depot office directly from the platform, although maybe I didn't <G>! I found this thingy that, when activated, looks like some sort of meter. What it does is beyond me! When I checked the mini walkthru, I was supposed to find my brother's notes, but I went over that room pixel by pixel and couldn't find any notes.

Maybe I'll start over again :-)!

Maybe that is the best to do. The thingie is explained in the brother's notes in the side room at the depot. wave

Hmm,

once you have found the meter, does it go to the bottom left hand side of your screen and stay there?? If so, you are in the room adjoining the hotel lobby area rather than the room next to the booking office (one door too far on!!). The notes are on a table, if you come into said room from the platform, on the lhs of the door is an inoperable mobile phone...

Hi, MaG!

I agree that starting over would be the best thing to do because I don't seem to be getting anywhere and I haven't run across some of the things mentioned in the walkthru.

Tig is probably right. I went through the wrong door <VBG>!

Hi, Tig!

Yup, the meter positioned itself in the bottom lhs of my screen, and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Of course, I don't have as clue what it is or what it does <G>!

I not only didn't find my brother's notes, but I didn't see a broken cell phone either. I'm gonna start over again and make sure I enter through the correct door this time. Of course, that means taking another tour of those lovely washrooms <yuk>!

Thanks :-)!

You know the room where you found the meter... well go back out on to the platform from the main door, then turn left.. a little further on you can enter more doors smile

You cannot die in this game, even tho' it is a bit creepy, so you can wander around to get your bearings and, if I recall, pick up stuff as you go. UHS has a plan of the hotel but I didn't find that awfully useful, I still got lost and, like many games, it wasn't until I was almost finished that I knew exactly where I was going. rolleyes . Finding my way around a large city is easy in comparison. laugh

Hi Susie wave
You have a great game there and as the others have mentioned, so easy to get lost at first.
Just keep wandering around, pick up everything, check everything and go into any door or out, that you are able to.
The only way to learn your way around this place is just by being so darn nosey.
It is confusing and a lot of stuff won't make sense at first; but will all come together.
I wouldn't restart. If I remember correctly there is no right or wrong way to enter; just a lot of different areas in that wee place to explore. If you're not able to go into an area yet, the game will let you know.
Have fun it's a scare evil

Hi, Rainbow Painter (or do you prefer RP <G>?)!

Thanks for the news that I can't die. I've been wandering around aimlessly, but haven't been able to pick anything up so far. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

Hi, Ingie!

Thanks for your input!

I remember you saying how much you enjoyed "Dark Fall" but, so far, I haven't been able to get into it. I'm not giving up, though :-)!

I'm glad you told me that nothing makes sense at first, because I was beginning to think it was just me. I'll keep poking around until I find something that I'm able to do. I've come across several inventory icons, but don't have any inventory items to use.

Funny you should mention being nosey, because I was snooping through the various hotel rooms when a voice accused me of being nosey <G>!

I was going to send you a simple map of the Station Platform Rooms/Offices but you don't have an EMail address available. If you want it (it's zipped) drop me an EMail. laugh

Susie, here's my two cents, fwiw:
just keep wandering around. there's lots of information to collect before anything even begins to fall into place. this game also has an incredibly small inventory; most things you can interact with but not actually take with you (i was incredibly frustrated i couldn't have the cell phone!). but restarting probably won't acomplish much.

another thing: when you go into the depot, you might try turning right and going up the stairs wink

Hi, ww!

I've found a few hot spots where the "inventory" cursor pops up, but I don't have any inventory items to interact with. The only thing I've been able to take so far is a meter that is now residing on the bottom left-hand side of the screen. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue what it is or what it does <G>!

Hi, Tig!

I have no willpower (which is why I avoid walkthrus like the plague unless I'm not enjoying the game and just want to get through it ASAP), so I want to know <G>!

Hi Susie,
And didn't that voice just make you gasp a bit? eek
First time I heard a "voice" I darn near jumped out of my skin because I wasn't expecting it.
If memory is right on this-which I doubt-this game is very user friendly and you'll be into the gist of it in no time.
I explored and walked and got so lost so many times-I'm always lost-I think I did finally figure out which stairs led where and which was up and which was down, sounds funny now lol
Strolling around the whole area including where you arrived is always nice. wink

Hey, Susie, there is a lot to see on the platform and in the station lobby, and side rooms......have you been to the bathrooms yet?, what did you see and do there? - there are several rooms off the station 'lobby' you need to check out before going to the Hotel - see that 'slot' machine? what did you do there? did you find the pay telephones? have you read everything on the walls etc and are you making copious notes? Pay especial attention to symbols and make drawings of them, you might have a use for them later....did you find your way into the station diner/cafe yet? There is something somewhere in there you need, maybe 2 things....
you have lots more exploring to do before you go upstairs across to the other side of the platform - and there is a 'secret' path over there leads you to an out-building too....THEN when you do all this you can head to the hotel..
have fun - I recently replayed this game and had a blast! then used it at our Computer Club meeting in October to demonstrate just what kind of games Adventure games are, and I got 3 or 4 of our members 'hooked' into wanting to try one/them...when I thought I was losing them because they were seeming to be bored and asked them if they had had enough and should I stop, they said NO please continue.....it was a fun meeting.
Love, Betty Lou

Hi, Betty Lou!

I've seen the pay phones, but don't have any money. I did spot a funny-looking symbol on the wall of one of the washrooms, and copied it down. The inventory cursor keeps popping up, but I have no inventory items to use. I'll keep at it and maybe will make some progress.

Thanks :-)!
