Short BBC One Doctor Who teaser

Doctor Who BBC America trailer - not sure why, but seems to be lot of speculation that the woman at the end is the Doctor's daughter Susan, regenerated. Don't see it myself.

Love the Maise Williams casting. I hope she is as strong in Dr. Who as she is in Game of Thrones.

Some networks make a big deal about renewing a series. Than there's the BBC. They hid the renewal of Doctor Who for a 10th season in the back pages of an annual report. Anyway, we haven't had season 9 yet but Doctor Who has already been renewed for a 10th season (or 36th if count the original series 26 seasons).

Another trailer

The 9th season hasn't even started and already a rumor going around the Peter Capaldi will leave at the end.

Episode 9 is apparently going to feature footage of somebody filming the Doctor as he deals with the episodes threat. So someboy's following him around?

The finale is a two part story with the first part featuring the Doctor all by himself, no one else. That will be interesting.

Steven Moffet thinks the Doctor and the Master were friends, because the original Master (Roger Delgado) and the third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) will real life friends and it effected how their characters behaved. Jon Pertwee was devastated by Roger Delgado's death and it influenced his decisions to quit Doctor Who.

That was a shocking start for the season. Wonder how part 2 is going to fix it. I can' imagined the Doctor actually doing what it looks like in the trailer.

Little Doctor Who "history":

The war between the Time Lords and the Daleks was not the first Time War. Long before the Daleks even existed a Time Lord called Morbius, a member of the High Council, believed the Time Lords should use their Time Travel technology not to just observe the universe but to conquer it. Eventually cast out from Gallifrey, he formed a mercenary army and did conquer worlds. The High Council couldn't let this stand.

Morbious was eventually traced to the planet Karn and with the help of the Sisterhood of Karn (who originally came from Gallifrey) the Time Lord were able to capture and execute Morbius, by vaporization (the only sure way to keep a Time Lord dead). What neither the Time Lords nor the Sisterhood knew is that one of Morbius' followers was able to remove the evil Time Lord's brain from his body before the body was destroyed.

Most of this happens in books so is not stickly canon. What happens next is from the TV series story "The Brain of Morbius". When the Time Lords eventually learn that Morbius' brain has survived and a mad scientist is trying to create a new body for Morbius they decide that the best way to handle the situation is to take control of the 4th Doctor's TARDIS forcing it to materialize on Karn. They don't actually tell the Doctor he's on a mission for them. They just force him to land on Karn and wait for him to get involved as he always does. This almost proved disastrous as the scientist realized the Doctor was a Time Lord and therefore the perfect host for Morbius' brain. Ulitmatly though the scientist was forced to put Morbius brain in a different body. Eventually of course, the Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith and the Sisterhood of Karn were able to defeat Morbius, for good. At least as far as the TV series is concerned. Another book had Morbius revived again only to be defeated by the 8th Doctor.

From "The Brain of Morbius" we learn that the Sisterhood of Karn are immortal as the planet produces the Elixir of Life, which they drink to stay young. They've also been known to share it with Time Lords who's regeneration has for one reason or another gone wrong. The Sisterhood members are also powerful telepaths and they don't like uninvited visitors to Karn and are quite capable of forcing other intelligent life forms to crash their space ships. There abilities can be resisted by Time Lords who are also telepathic.

It seems that over the centuries between "The Brain of Morbous" and "The Night of the Doctor" the Sisterhood has been experimenting with their Elixir to the point that they can help Time Lords control the results of regeneration.

So that assassin looking for the Doctor was only able to land on Karn because the Doctor wanted to hear what "he" would say. The Sisterhood could have made the spaceship crash instead of letting it land.

The viewing figures of the new season of Dr Who have fallen dramatically in the UK. Whether that’s because one of the actors is leaving or some other reason is anyone’s guess. The good news is the trailers’ of the new autumn drama programs are beginning to been shown.
This clip maybe of interest to Dr Who fans.

This season is going to be strange. According to wikipedia episodes 3 and 4 will be parts 2 and 1 of a single story, that's right they're going to be shown in reverse order. Episode 3 takes place a few centuries after episode 4. Despite episodes 5 and 6 having names that sound like they're part 1 and 2 they're not listed as such. Apparently both have Maisie Williams in them so they are linked in some way. Episode 9 will feature video found in a crashed space ship. It will look like it was filmed with camcorders and phones. Episode 11 will feature just the Doctor.

Season 9 episode titles:
--- "Last Christmas"
01. "The Magician's Apprentice" (part 1)
02. "The Witch's Familiar" (part 2)
03. "Under the Lake" (part 2)
04. "Before the Flood" (part 1)
05. "The Girl Who Died"
06. "The Woman Who Lived"
07. "The Zygon Invasion" (part 1)
08. "The Zygon Inversion" (part 2)
09. "Sleep No More"
10. "Face the Raven"
11. "Heaven Sent" (part 1)
12. "Hell Bent" (part 2)

Seems to me "Last Christmas" should be counted as part of season 8 not 9. The next Christmas special will see the return of River Song.

Steven Moffat hints there could be more than one companion in the future but claims not to know who. Keep in mind he lies to try to keep things secret.

I sense a pattern. Since in episode 1
Click to reveal..
Clara appears to be killed but she's alive in episode 2.
And in episode 3
Click to reveal..
the Doctor appears to have died but we know he'll be alive again by the end of episode four.
I predict that in the next two parter,
Click to reveal..
both the Doctor and Clara will appears to be killed in the first episode.

The actress who plays the deaf woman Cass in Under the Lake and Before the Flood is actually deaf. And the actor who plays Lunn actually knows sign language, because he has a deaf sister.

Finally a new series Doctor reversed the polarity of the neutron flow! (course he gave away the secret that it doesn't mean anything, just sounds cool). It actually came about because Jon Pertwee (Doctor #3) could not remember all the techonabble in the script and would adlib "I'm reversing the polarity of the neutron flow" which is total nonsense, neutrons are neutral.

Oh and Peter Capalid's pants look like ones Patrick Troughton (Doctor #2) wore.

Oh and he finally figured out why he chose the face of the man David Tennnent's Doctor rescued from Pompeii.

The Woman Who Lived teaser - what the Doctor did in The Girl Who Died has consequences.

Already rumors that Ashildr will be back in episode 10, which may be Clara's last episode as well.

This getting worrisome:

“Clara is gone and will never return. I can only say that what will happen will shock, surprise and terrify. Strictly in that order.”
-- Steven Moffat

"I found it really sad to say goodbye to her ... I don't want to go into what happens, because it's very clever what happens in it, but it's very sad. It's really sad"
-- Peter Capaldi

The good news is Peter Capaldi will be back next season.

Little teaser from episode 8, Real Clara vs Zygon Clara

Well if you have to go out go out big like Amy Pond did. The show will not be the same for me without Clara and the never to return quote is very bad news for me. cry She was the only thing keeping me watching the show. I think Calpadi is a good actor but he doesn't sell me as the Doctor.

Yes. The doctor himself, Clara, Missy and Osgood will be there. Too bad most photo op tickets went very fast. And Clara will only be present today and tomorrow.

Darn it. "Heaven Sent" is broken on Amazon. I chatted with some customer service person in India or Pakistan, all he said was technical issue with web site. I'll have to check back in the evening after work. Even if they fixed it now, I no longer have time before work to watch it.

Doesn't anybody do customer service in the US? At work our computer tech service is in Germany. WTH?

season finale trailer

season finale trailer

They want us to think the Doctor is the hybrid, but actually he its creator, the hybrid, a cross between two warrior races, is Ashildr.

As for the regeneration, this is Gallifrey, its full of Time Lords (there the ones in the robes). Capaldi isn't going anywhere.

Haven't seen the series 9 finale yet, so can't comment on it, but here are some trailers for the Christmas special, welcome back River Song:

Next time

This is the first trailer I saw - based on this it seem the tables have turned. When River was introduced it was in a two part David Tennant story in which she seemed to know the Doctor but he (and the audience) had no idea who she was. Later in a Matt Smith episode River explained that she and the Doctor are both time travelers and they are traveling in opposite directions. So it could be that now its the Doctor's turn to know River but she hasn't met him yet. Or she's faking. Either is possible.

Happening again, they're showing the Christmas special in select theaters in US. And like last time Lincoln isn't included in the first list. Last time Lincoln was added later.

I think you will enjoy the finale Guybrush. Clara was awesome and it was nice to see Jenna and Maise share some scenes.

Seeing River in the Xmas special will be nice too.

So in 4.5 billion years, the Time Lords have still not learned to lock the time capsules that are in for repair? (BTW the term TARDIS was invented by the Doctor's granddaughter Sussan. The Time Lords originally called them time capsules and by numbers). Wouldn't you think the first thing they would do is remove the dematerilzation circuit, without which they can't move?

I guess we're supposed to think that woman was the Doctor's mother?

They kind of skirted the issue of the Doctor being half human that was invented by the movie with Paul McGann. Ashldr thinks its true, but the Doctor doesn't admit it or deny it. I've read that there's a book which says the Doctor tricked the Master into believing it in the movie but it wasn't true. Which make sense since he was never half human in the original series.

At least this episode was half off the Earth.
A couple of problems I have with this version of Doctor Who:
a) too earth centric
b) too human centric

Sometimes the classic series could get bogged down in too many stories set on Earth, but that was mostly budget problems. What's the excuse now? They spend more on one episode then the original series spent on an entire series/season.

Many of the original Doctor Who companions were not human. The very first Susan, was the Doctor's granddaughter. Later he had an adult Time Lady. Adric came from an another universe. And when his companions were human they came from different times, past, present and future.

Also the Doctor originally traveled with 3 companions. Losing one companion, even his own granddaughter, never caused him to go overboard, because he wasn't alone. Even when Adric died he didn't try to change history because Nyssa and Tegan were there to keep him sane. The writers admitted they went to one because it was easier to write for the Doctor and one companion than three.

I just thought of something.
In the original Doctor Who, Gallifreyan guard stazers were designed to over come regeneration. Logically they would have to be even you had to deal with rouge Time Lords, If the head of security had a weapon with no stun setting it would not have caused the general to regenerate it would have killed him. Moffatt goofed.

Doctor Who brings Christmas cheer after the recent ‘dark’ series

What we know about series/season 10:
1) It will be 12 episodes and a Christmas special
2) Peter Capaldi will be The Doctor
3) Two new, unnamed as of yet, writers will writing for it.
4) Clara will not be back.

That's what we know. Everything else is speculation.

What we don't know yet
1) Who the Doctor's new companion will be
2) When exactly the series/season will air
3) Will there be two part stories again, or all stand alone episodes
4) If Missy will be back

Rumors:
There's talk about Peter Jackson being involved somehow. He's a known fan. He had 7th Doctor actor Sylvester McCoy in the Hobbit movies and greatly expanded the roll of his character.

OH BTW: Clara was originally not going to be in last year's Christmas special. Her last scene at the end of season 8 was supposed to be it, but Jenna Coleman changed her mind and was written into the Christians special. That was supposed to be the end. She changed her mind again, so they added the scene that made her death of old age to be just a dream.

There was originally going to be a cameo appearance by K9 in last year's Christmas special.

Series/season 10 hasn't even started production and Peter Capaldi is already talking about it possibly being his last.

Steven Moffat says he knows what he wants next companion to be like, but claims not to have a name for the companion yet. He won't say its gender either. Or if only one for that matter. Capaldi would prefer one female. I'd like more than one companion, and make them all aliens. Most of the Doctor's companions in the original series were not from Earth, those that were were from vasious points in time not just from 21st century UK.

I am odd man out. I love Capaldi. I think he brings a much needed maturity and gravitas to the role. Clara and him were never a good match. She was not my favorite companion, but I could see how she worked well with the younger Doctor (Matt Smith). I never believed the bond between her and the new Doctor and I'm glad she is out of the picture. It is important to get the chemistry right between the companion(s) and Capaldi's Doctor never had chemistry with Clara.

THere are people dying daily, I'm afraid. It would be a never ending task to post them all.

Technically this belongs in a Doctor Who season/series 11 thread smile Steven Moffat stands down and Chris Chibnall to take over. Chibnall created Broadchurch, which featured 10th Doctor (David Tennant)and Rory (Arthur Darvill).

Oh no, the rumor has turned out to be true. This year there will only be a Christmas special. Season/series 10 wont run until 2017 with Chris Chibnall taking over in 2018.

I was already disappointed with Capaldi as the doctor and Jenna Coleman leaving but with the exit of Moffat I think that might spell the end for me. I think they should of dumped Capaldi and kept the Clara character to pair with a new Doctor. Who knows Chibnall may do a great job with Dr. Who like he has done with Broadchurch. Time will tell.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.
