On February 3, 1959, musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and pilot, Roger Peterson were killed when their plane crashed new Clear Lake, Iowa.

Waylon Jennings, member of Buddy Holly's band was supposed to be on this flight, but The Big Bopper asked to take his place. Waylon of course went on to become a country music star. Waylon Jennings died February 13, 2002.
