I have tried and tried to get this poor guy out of the "hole" room with no success. Does anyone have a save so that I can continue on? Any help will be appreciated. I've adjusted light on my monitor but no luck. Help!!!

Have you tried turning the light on in the room? Right after entering the room, turn towards your right and walk, hugging the wall. The lamp is higher up on the wall. My note says, R from D, F 1X, slight L - 1 step walk straight point slightly R. Unfortunately the lamp doesn't stay on long, you should be able to see enough to get to the ax, you can see the holes on each side of you. The way back is harder, I did not take notes, too busy trying not to fall in. It is a matter of aiming at the correct door and taking only one step at a time. After you get the axe, turn to the L, arrow pointing at the R door, Step 1X. Turn L some more, you will be pointing at a hole, L of the doors, step 1X only. Then turn R, pointing at the middle of the doors, go R towards the light, hugging the wall until you reach the exit. This last is from Tally Ho's w/t here on GB, he has screenshots to help, somehow I remember doing something else. Sorry I don't have any of my saves on the computer.

I am in the tunnel trying to light the torches. Can't really see anything. I have found five torches but after hours I can't find the sixth. This is my third time starting this game and I have yet to get past this part. Please does anyone have a save after lighting all the torches?

Thanks, I am now trying to talk to the brain but all I can get is one sentence. I have mixed a fluid that is green injected the brain and activated but can't get it to talk any more than one sentence.
Please help, this game is so frustrating.

Hi Charward,

Try pulling/pushing all the buttons below. You should get different sentences from all of them but you may still have to do something else. I couldn't get continuous sentences right away. Have you been to the boiler room yet? I think i had to do that first and come back.

I have been to the boiler room, started the fire and started the generator. I finally found the dark valve on the floor and the master switch. I have mixed a fluid. It's green and used the syringe on the brain. But he says one sentence and nothing I do after that gets him talking again. There is the button below the brain, three buttons on the left of the machine and a lever on the right to get the machine going. But I so far can not get questions to put to the brain or get him to talk more than the one line.

I ahve not played the game but it looks like from reading the wt:

That you have to be sure that the fluid injected is prepared correctly.
Inject it to brain.
That you activate the fluid after injecting it by pulling the lever beneath the jar.
Then get Brain talking by turning on the power with the button on the left, and flipping the switch at the right until he talks to you.

Hope one of the above might trigger something. If not replay again and see what might be shaken loose. smile

I have replayed this over and over and I never have gotten more than one line from the brain. I don't know if I can continue without hearing more from him. If hearing all his information is necessary than I doubt that I can continue the game.

Hi Charwood,

I don't know if I have a save there but will check in the morning and let you know.

I had a hard time there also. I just kept pushing buttons & pulling levers until I finally got it.

Hi Charwood,

I have a ton of saves but can't find that one. They're all huge (almost a mb or over one) so I can't send a bunch to let you try them since I have dial-up. Sorry. frown

Try pressing the buttons quickly, pulling the levers and doing it all randomly. That's how I finally got it to work. I hope that helps.

I just finished this games a few days ago. So my memory is pretty fresh.
There are three push buttons on the left. You press the middle button to turn
the machine on. Now, the switch on the right has five positions. Switch it all the
way to the right. The middle light above the the seven switches in the middle
will light up. Press the swith below the light and the machine will say something
(frankly, I can't understand what it said). Now there are three lights on.
Pressing the switch below each of these lights will lead to certain information.
When the machine asks you a question pay attention to the lights that
light up while it's asking. This will tell which switch to use to get the information
you're looking for.

A save isn't going to help you here because all you get from the machine is
information (no inventory items or anything). However, if you need a save
somewhere down the line I have many.

I did finally get brain to talk some. Very difficult to understand. I heard something about the days of the week. How do you know when he's finished? I finally just gave up and went on. I am now in what I think is the torture chamber and the WT says I need styrax from the briefcase. Where is the briefcase? Should I have found it some place else or is it in this room. Everything is so dark.
Help, please.

Yes, first go to your inventory screen, click on the lower circle on the left
of that screen and see if it's there. If it isn't you'll have to go
back to that room previous to the room with pits in the floor. It's in that
chest on the floor as you walk in.

I got everything I could from the brain but the most important thing is the
days of the week stuff. If you want to solve the puzzle without the walkthrough
you'll need it. But first, look at those slips of paper in the desk drawer
and write down what you see. The names on those papers are what the brain is
talking about in connection with the days of the week.

This is a tough puzzle and I confess I finally had to look at the walkthrough.
If you don't get it or don't want to bother with it I have save just past it.

Found the briefcase and now I am in the Library with another question. I have found the books mentioned in the walkthrough but I can't give them to the Librarian or examine them. Must be doing something wrong but I can't figure out what. Please help me again.

Charward, did you talk to the librarian, show him the necronomicon, and examine the book he was reading...

Yes, I did that, then went to the Occult Sciences and got the book, Moon, Gateway to the soul. I couldn't give it to him and I couldn't look at it either. I'm not sure how you examine the book. It shows in inventory but I can't read it.

I just replayed from the time I got to the library and when I get the book from the Occult Sciences section and go back to the Librarian, he asked me what have you found? The he goes back to reading the strange book and I am not able to give him the book I just found or to examine it.

Is the librarian standing at the table now, as opposed to sitting like he was before? Once he's standing at the table, you should be able to give him the book. If he is standing, try changing your position. Maybe you're just not standing in the right place.

You can't examine it until after you give it to him.

Melanie is right about the Librarian. In addition I think you have to present the books in the correct order. Necronomicon first, then the Moon, etc.

Also, it's very important that you examine the book on the table after you
give it to the librarian because William will make an additional comment
afterwards. If you don't, you won't be able to pick up the next book.

I am trying to do this in the right order. Gave him the Necronomicon and then got the moon one. He shows up when I enter and says what have you got for me (or somehting like that). Then he isn't sitting at the desk, he standing at the table on the other side of the room. He's still reading the hard to read book. He never looks up nor tries to take the moon book. I get the gears symbol not the circle.

You don't have to examine the Necronomicon (but you should). The gears symbol
is what you should have. Just go into inventory and grab the moon book. That's
when you get the green circle. You DO have to examine the other books though
or you won't be able to pick up the next book.

Are you sure you're getting the right book from inventory? There should be
two books there. The necronomicon doesn't leave your inventory even though
you clicked it on the librarian (don't know why). The moon book should be
at about 3:00 oclock.

I hope you were able to move on, Charwood, but just in case, I had another idea.

Did you read the other books in the library? There are several you can pick up and read, but not take. One of them may also trigger something.

Thanks, finally got it. I didn't know that I had two books in inventory. Now I'm at the Labyrinth. The last book I found is still in inventory. Is that right? I may need more help with this next thing.

I should have known that having fun would cost me.
I have done the green pedestal and activated the timer. But so far I have not been able to get back to the door beside the gate. I often can't see it until the gate opens and the door shuts. I often don't get back there anyway. Is there always a middle door? It seems that sometimes after I go through the middle door there is only one door to enter. Is that right. And how can I see the open door in time? Please help again.

I think it's something in the wording I used that confuses people; you are not the first one to have this problem but darned if I can figure out a better way to say it. If you need to, send me a saved game and I will trudge through the doors and fix things and return the game.

Tally Ho, I don't have an email address for you.
Whenever I think I am computer literate something happens to prove otherwise. How do I send you a saved game?

Go up to the message I posted, and click on the "Profile" button. Then you should be able to click on my e-mail address.

Send an e-mail to me, with an attachment. Find your saved games by opening My Computer, and going to the C:\Program Files\Necronomicon folder.

I've got a save here also, charwood2. It will put you in the large round
room that Tally Ho talks about in the walkthru.

wave Hi Everyone,

Tally Ho had to help me there also, Charwood. smile I was able to get through the tunnel center doors past the gates, but kept going around in circles after that.

I love your walkthroughs, Doug, and could never do the wonderful job you do on them! But since you did ask for a little constructive criticism......... rotfl

I didn't understand which door was the final door to go through in that room. I think your description is great right up to the point of the final door that leads to the next round room. I think the confusion comes from the description of the final door. Since all the doors are triangular, I was confused about what to do after going through the tunnels with the gates in front of them.

I think a better description would be 'the door that was facing you when you first entered the round room, behind the green pedestal puzzle' (or something to that effect), rather than calling it the triangular door. I also thought I was in the second round room when I was in the first so mentioning that the door leads to 'another' round room would have helped me.

Just some thoughts if you're feeling ambitious enough to amend it and agree. smile

Hi Melanie - Thanks for the input. One of the things that makes this segment hard to do is the visibility. (Green on dark green, on darker green) You should have seen me yesterday, trying to get through the doors for Charlotte, with a mouse in one hand, and an unfolded newspaper in the other trying to create enough shade from the afternoon sun on the screen. Not a pretty sight. If anyone had seen me, I would be the next subject for the "caption of the week" contest.

I will take your advice, and while I'm at it, do some experimenting with those 15 buttons on the pedestal. I believe they dictate which doors you must go through, but have never tested the theory. For example, if you could press all the right buttons instead of the center buttons, and if that meant you need to go through all the right-hand doors, it might be easier. The left-hand doors are all in the dark and hard to see. What's worse, is when you return to the pedestal room, and look for the Newly opened one. Playing in a darkened room, it's not too hard to see, but introduce any glare, and you might as well be tapping around with a white cane.

I'll give it a shot after the sun goes down.
