I don't know for sure, but looking at the walkthrough it sounds like you should save right before starting the puzzle so that if you mess up, you can reload and start over.

I'M not good at colors so i had my wife do it -she didn't use any walkthrough . only took her 5 mins. yikes . dance

well just finished game 5th time ,I think they could have done better on the ending !
