how in the world do I get the copper1oxide (red) to go in the bucket in the volcano area. I have tried going back to the odd looking thing and putting the copper2oxide and hitting the button but all I keep getting are copper pieces. please help I am going nuts.

As I understand from your post that you still do not have a red copper 1 oxide. Which later you want to place in the bucket in the volcano area.

Did you use the black bead on any part of the outer ring of the atom at the machine at the Hallway of the Cu area? This will change the Cu2O to Cu1O.

Cu area: In the hall, zoom in one the goofy looking thing on the right by the dial. Put copper2oxide in the left cup and place a black bead on the outer ring. Push the red button. Collect copper1oxide from the right dish.

If you're already in the volcano area and cannot place the chemical red Cu1O in the bucket - you have to zoom in on the buckets to place anything on them.

I replayed this part:

Place the Cu2O in a glass bottle on the left pan.
Look close-zoom at the atom at the center.
It will say Cu2O
Place a black bead on the outer ring.
It will say Cu1O.
Press red button.
The arms spin.
The right pan opens to a red powder of Cu1O.

Are you sure you are placing Cu2O on the left pan?

As Jenny said maybe replay the game and see.
