OK, so I went for the Trial game. Atmospheric. Decent voice acting. Has all the usual stuff, including the pop-ups, but nice level of difficulty with some clever new twists, and if you set the puzzles to Hard, they really are. This one is FUN. And I see there are others in the series. Apparently, it is full price, but if you buy it, you get another CE at half off. I'll think about it, for now, but it is on my List as a series to look into, so big thanks for calling it to our attention.

I see several people afflicted with the black screen issue (I looked at the Stonehenge forum, the technical issues thread). One person said this: Only will play at 1920X1080 or windowed mode. Many others said playing in windowed mode was the only way to fix the black screen issue. It does sound like a difficulty with screen resolution.

Thanks, Marion. Glad to know it isn't something wrong with my machine. I don't remember my screen resolution, but I think it may be as high as 2500 x something. It is a 34" monitor. Too bad about the game. Still, there are plenty more out there.
Update: I downloaded the Trial Game for another episode in this series, "Easter Island," and it installed and ran just fine. It is very similar to Dangerous World, though. Exact same sorts of puzzles and mini-games, same basic premise, etc. So, I think I will make a note to buy it later and play something else in the meantime.
