Many thanks, Zanthia--guess I'd better drag out the old manual and see what I can find until someone comes along.

It's a good game, although I've had all kinds of problems. But I'm struggling on, so that should tell you something...

Jenny,
I have the same problem when repairing something...makes me not use that skill very often.

Sometimes right-clicking around where the missing task bar/stuff should be - oftimes near the botton of the screen brings it back.

I've always managed to get it back without exiting the game if that's any help.

Thanks for the encouragement, Yapette, but I'm beginning to think I have some sort of mental block when it comes to the dark side! I can't get the repair function to work at all.

I have the skill as the active one, and when I right-click on it, the cursor becomes the hammer (that's also when the bar at the bottom disappears), but then I can't manage to do anything. No matter where I laft-click the bow never gets repaired.

But after your post, Yapette, I did manage to get the bar back by right-clicking down at the bottom. Many thanks! Now if someone could walk me through the repair process, with baby steps please blush , I'd be very grateful...

I did the same thing - right clicking on the repair skill minimizes the interface as a function of the game - and when it first happened I sat there scratching my head for the longest time wondering where everything went!
OK, for the repair skill:
You activate your repair skill like you're doing, and then left click on the item you want to repair. You can use the screen where it shows what your character is wearing, or some people find it easier to put an item on the ground, stand close to it, and click to repair. Some people aren't able to repair when an item is just in your general inventory.
However, remember that you can only do a certain percentage of repair according to your skill level. Say you have a level one skill in repairing, you would only be able to repair up to 60% of the item's durability. Level 2, 70% and so on. If your item has a low durability, you may not be able to fix it at all, which could account for you not seeing any results.
For me, it was just easier to hop to the weapons guy in the merchant area. Unless you want to invest your skill points to make you a level five in repair skill, which would let you repair to 100%, this made more sense to me.

I more than half the time messed up using the repair skill so I took the easy way out and just paid someone else to do it for me laugh

Nickie, you just solved my problem!!! bravo My bow has a durability of 16, and it was only down to 10, so that's why the repair didn't work...

I wouldn't go too high in the Repair skill. it's handy, but as long as you can keep your weapons and armour usable, you're ok. Two levels should be enough to fix things 70%, I believe.

I personally found that specializing in one type of weapon was best, because you can add all sorts of special skills to that particular ability.

Both times I played this game I used quite a lot of magic - archer/thief/mage and warrior/mage types. If you are playing a tank, you can augment this with some really good ranged spells - pick a couple and get up to high levels. The odd summons are useful. But the first time I played I made the mistake of selecting a lot of spells. The second time I took only a few and got to the highest levels with them - much more useful.

For any type of character alchemy is useful because at higher levels you can make very powerful potions.

Last time I played I found the ability to poison weapons to be very useful. I took this one up to the highest level possible for my archer and watched monsters drop at my feet! Handy, especially if you are able to make high-level potions.

The one thing I loved about this game is that you can give yourself a wide range of skills and still have a very powerful character. Other skills I liked were healing, summoning, lockpicking and setting traps.

Also don't forget Charm (someone correct me if this is the wrong name for this - it's been six months since I played). This is not a spell that charms enemies - it is the very important ability to add those round crystals to your armour and weapons. This one is worth taking up to level 5 so that you can use the very high level enchantments on your equipment.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I'm still totally hooked on this fabulous game. I'm currently on level 20. I bought the most fantastic sword which has frost on it and I'm pretty unbeatable at the moment!

Jules, thats great that you are loving this game so much.

frost is the best enchantment to have on a sword. it works on every enemy. frost on a weapon is much more powerful than the freeze spell.

i found that one point in repair skill is all that is needed.

the enchant skill Hagatha mentioned is the enchant weapon skill from the warrior skill path. this is a must to get up to level 5.

Oh Jules
How wonderful, happydance I looked everywhere for that sword, but never found.
I was happy with the "Singer" sword, but still kept my eye out on that one.
This game is GREAT and a wonderful way to get your toes wet in RPG. It's funny and challenging but not beyond an adventure gamers thoughts of catching on!
I know you'll be trying others after this and how exciting to have 2 worlds of gaming open up!

Well, after moving and changing jobs rolleyes and not posting for a while, I started reading about DD and decided to go get it. Wow! thumbsup What a great game! Im just starting out and I'm in the first level of the catacombs but I need help please. Where are the 3 pentagrams to put the orbs in? I got the zombie from the female statue in the room to the south, and went to the room to the north from there where there are 3 candles on the floor and a book that tells about the pentagrams. Now what? eek
Can someone help? Thanks!

Hmm, can't remember exactly where they are, but they are down there on the level you're on.
You'll know them when you find them and they'll be added to your inventory. It's a big place to discover and lots of levels. Listen to some of the "boneyard humor" and you'll see a few others that will help out with the leveling of your character. What character are you playing as?
This game is a delight welcome and have a grand time.

Hi Luv2, and glad you joined us and are having fun with the game! The room with the pentagram (just one) is to the east of where you are. Since you have the zombie helper, be sure and stay away from the Orcs as you go down that hall, or they'll fight. Between where the Orcs are, and where that statue was, should be a way to go to the east.

My little warrior is currently on Level 27 and running round the dark forest killing everything in sight! I've still got a few Rivertown quests I haven't cleared up, so I'm going to do those before venturing into Stormfist Castle. What level should I be at before I go there?

Having a bit of trouble with a couple of things in particular. I was supposed to contact some guy at the Merchants'/Assassins' Guild. When I went to speak to him he called some assassins to kill me. Having mercilessly slaughtered them, I can't find the guy again. Any ideas as to what I should do now?

I'm also having problems with the stolen goods quest. I think I've found the stolen cache (in the Orc cave, right?) and killed the two thieves that came in after me, but I can't progress anything any further. I've spoken to Marcus (the merchant) and Tingalf but there are no new conversation paths available.

Am still loving the game and have Morrowind on order!

Jules, that's great!! happydance
You want to save StormFist until the last thing.
There are quite a few things after you enter the Dark Forest that should be done.
Now, for the Assassins; in the room where they came after you is a secret pathway. You need to go down it and start killing and picking up some good things. Seems to me, it was like a bookshelf or clock or something, it's a panel on the right as you look into the room behind or beside the desk.
Hmm, the stolen goods, that doesn't sound right. But I can't remember where that quest is solved.
I think it's in one of the houses you have to go into.
Someone will come along with a better memory on that one.
I understand your love for this game!
So excited for you about Morrowind. It's a long adventure and so truly named 'Not a Clue Club'!
Although the founder of this group was perhaps carried away by Cliff Racers; we know she's around somewhere. We are missing our Jean too, last seen dancing somewhere, but I'm sure she and Nickie will return one day.
Have fun, hope that was a little help for you.
BTW, level 27 is fantastic, thumbsup and you'll do fine, but once in Stormfist you're onto the main quest. Your teleporters are taken from you right away and you won't get them back for a very long time. You also need to go back to the first village before going to Stormfist.
I had to leave some quest uncompleted, but I have a save game ready to do one day and will go back and do things different. Learning RPG for me takes playing and understanding there is a lot to it!
I would save Stormfist until everything is explored and finish all I would want!

Jules,
I was just reminded, your answer to the thief quest will be found in the sewers, you need to go through that passage way and you'll find a bad guy named Pedro.

Jules, you are doing great! you are high enough level to go to castle stormfist if you want to. i decided to wait until i had no more quests that could be done before going. if you do go now, you can finish your quests later but as ingie said you will temporarily lose your teleporters

for the merchant/assassins, find the head of the assassin guild and talk to him

for the stolen goods, have you been to the sewers yet underneath the town.

Thanks guys! I think I'll leave Stormfist for a while - don't like the sound of losing my teleporters eek

I've been down the sewers but didn't find anyone called Pedro, so I'll go back. Am currently trying to gain entry to the Warriors' Guild. I've completed the first tests and have been given a quest to get a dragon heart from a castle.

So much to do!

Woo hoo! Finished DD last night! I thought it was a great game on the whole but the last section was a bit trying what with all the mazes and hordes of monsters.

Hoping to get Morrowind in the next day or two.

Way to go Jules! happydance
You'll find a lot of folks agree about DD.
The last part was a pistol and kind of slash and hack all the way; although the final battles were kind of interesting. It will be so interesting to play the new games that will be sprouted from this one-Riftrunner should be the first out I think-I'm hoping lol
Let us know when you start Morrowind-a lot of folks playing right now

congratulation jules! you are not alone in feeling the last section was all hack n slash. it is as if they were rushed to get it out. but since overall it was such a small section it really doesn't take away much from the game.

now you have 2 more games too look forward to--the DD sequel and Riftrunner. Hopefully riftrunner will be out by the end of the year.

Morrowind is another great game. If you thought DD was long, just wait to you start playing morrowind.

Couldn't wait for my Amazon order of Morrowind to arrive so I cancelled it and rushed out after work to buy Morrowind. lol

I loaded it up and got myself all patched up last night and have just started exploring. I'm playing as a mage as I was a warrior in DD. The graphics are AMAZING. I love the night sky - so peaceful (though I doubt it will stay peaceful for very long!). The controls take some getting used to, though. I'm currently crashing into walls and all sorts.

Guess I'll go and check out some of the Morrowind threads for tips.
