By the slimmest of possibilities, does anyone know the name of the small-but-nice-and-readable font used for the messages that scroll up from the bottom-center of the screen when you're playing Wizardry 8? I'd like to see if it's downloadable from anywhere, so I could use it in my emails or whatever. Could be they made that font just for the game & didn't even name it, I suppose.

Hey Sig, long time no see! I hope all is well.

I don't know the name of the font, but I will let you know if I can find out anything about it. wave

Hey, Marian. Yeah, it has been a while, & yeah, I'm okay--in fact, just yesterday, the electric scooter I ordered got here, which'll probably be thrilling to ride, as I haven't had any wheels of any kind for well over a decade. Replaying some Wiz 8 again, so I keep seeing that font I always liked. Of course, it's the same font they use in the merchant interface, & the dialogue interface, & the spellcasting interface, & on the various character screens & character creation screens. I checked around online & in the game folder & came up empty-handed, so I could easily be asking for the impossible, but thanks for replying.

Yes, I was thinking that some Wiz 8 fans in some forums dedicated to Wiz 8 might be able to provide some information for you - maybe forums with Wiz 8 mods, too. Isn't it amazing that this game is still keeping you interested after all these years - what a great game it is.

I'm glad to hear about the electric scooter too. That should be most helpful. thumbsup

I haven't anything to add to the discussion, except to say it's great to see you here after so long!

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hey, hagatha. What a nice community we have here.

Yeah, Marian, I do play other games, but I just can't retire Wiz 8 for good--there's nothing else like it. Between the phased combat, the auto-camera, the personality system, the good music, the good savegame editor, & everything else, it always scratches my itch just right.

Sig, I remember your also having played Arcanum many times and that you also liked Lands of Lore 3, among other games. But you always went back to Wiz 8. I always thought of you as one of Wiz 8's biggest fans. smile

By the way, didn't your previous profile show that you lived in Michigan or somewhere near there? Or am I just not remembering correctly?

Yes, Marian, Lands of Lore 3 was what got me into gaming, & it took me a couple years to see the good ending cinematic, cuz there's no cheats for that one, but it felt like the greatest accomplishment of my life. And yeah, I spent quite a bit of time playing Arcanum, which is an odd game--besides the mix of early technology & magic, & the throwback music & such, you have a good thing like saving a dog who becomes a party member, & a bad thing like what happens to Virgil, which is very dark, even for a Darksider. I also replayed Space Siege a bunch & there's been others. Some of them don't really fit this forum, like keeping Avalon Legends Solitaire 3 installed, in case I just feel like a bit of something casual. I found a trainer for that & never tire of seeing "Perfect" displayed after every hand, with these Disneyish sparkles cascading off of it. Yeah, I might be one of Wiz 8's biggest (still-living) fans--oh, c'mon, that's funny.

Boy, what a memory you have. Yes, my profile used to have me in southeastern Michigan, but, after using up my savings, I went homeless for a bit before being taken in by my sister near where I am now, & managed to get into a subsidized apartment shortly before Covid hit. Ironically, the way things are going, I'm startin' to feel like one of the lucky ones. Anyway, nice talkin' to ya.

Sig, it sounds as though you've had an awful time of it. I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm glad you finally managed to find some stability.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Sig, I am very sorry to learn of your difficulties and I hope that things will be much better from here on out. Glad you stopped in. You registered on GameBoomers in 2001, the year after I did, so we have both been here for a very long time. smile

I did not realize that Lands of Lore 3 had more than one possible ending. That must have been amazing seeing the good ending after two years! And Avalon Legends Solitaire is something I am familiar with; I have all of the games in that series.

Hi Sig,

Looks like I'm late to the party as usual. That looks like a variation of an older Apple bitmap font called "Cartoon 12" that's gone through a few iterations over time. It may have been customized, giving the serifs a bit more flair, but the basic font looks like it was Cartoon 12.

TM smile

Here are some examples: https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/112757/cartoon-12

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

Sorry for being unclear, Marian. LoL3 only has the one ending--I just meant that it was good in the sense of nicely done. I can't talk about it, cuz that would be a huge spoiler if anyone is still playing that oldie, but I think I CAN say that it's so touching, when I told my mom about it, her response was "Awwww."

And thanks for the info, TM.

Hi Sig, I have been looking at the Wizardry 8 game and see that it runs on MacOS so I may well give it a try, as well as the other games you mention.

Meanwhile, if you have not already raised your font/script query with the publisher of the game, that could be worth a shot https://store.steampowered.com/publisher/drecom/

There is also a font source where you may find something to your liking https://www.myfonts.com

Of course, now that you have the new wheels, you may have less time for gaming, but in any event I hope your life continues to brighten! catrub

Thank you for not describing the ending to LOL 3, Sig. I have been thinking about loading that game up one of these days, and also giving LOL 2 a try.

Thanks, Lex. It looks to me like that font is in the Slab Serif category (a term I never heard of till now), but I don't have any font-buyin' money. I've also checked this site, which has a ton of free fonts, actually too many to finish looking through--2,030 just in the Serif category--but didn't come across one that came close to it. It's not a biggie--I was just wondering.
