Have been checking around on google for help, and I did what one site said to "uncheck" the "Enhance Pointer Precision" at the control panel.
Nothing helps.

The game is working on my Win 10 and the flashing is gone, thanks to the other answer I found here at Gameboomers, thanks !

But regardless if I set the rotation speed to slow, medium, or fast, the mouse is almost like it's on 'roaming' (it's not !) and although I'm able to select the items Jep is picking up -- the mouse moves so slowly and 'stutters'.
I am sorry but I can't really explain very well without a video.
I've tried playing in windowed mode and the in-game mouse pointer still jerks.

I've read about 'hyper threading' but was hesitant to mess with that.

Not sure if it's a framerate issue (fps) and also didn't want to mess up my desktop PC.

Thanks in advance for any help .

I put this link here to show that the player is not having my issues at all.
I've played the first "Return to Mysterious Island" and it ran fine, just like this video.

Hi, GOG support pages mention this issue and you can find an additional suggestion for fixing it on this page. I got to this page through the support page for Return to Mysterious Island 2, which provided a link to this page.

Hi, Jesse_Arcana! Floating cursor can indicate that your computer hardware is not up to snuff. I checked and the specs for this game are pretty low, but if you have shared video, it could cause a problem. Is this a download?

Can you please post your computer specs? Specifically, your RAM, Processor and video card? You can find all that by right clicking on the white Windows icon on the lower left and clicking on System.

The link Marian provided is also worth a try.

Return to Mysterious Island 2 was released in 2009, so it seems unlikely that the system specs would be a problem even with a (possible) integrated video card. It doesn't hurt to check, though.

It shouldn't be a problem... I looked up the specs and they are really low. It does require 64 MB of VRAM which I would think even a shared video card would have. An all-in-one computer might not though.

I installed the game from a dvd.

I did do the first fix at the link (Thanks, Marian !), with unchecking the 'Enhance Pointer Precision'.

Also, the second fix I'm not sure if I need to as it's already set at 100 % ?

Or should I go to the 'advanced scaling settings' and manually type in the 100 ?

I went and manually typed in '100' in the 'advanced scaling settings'; even though it already says '100' when I bring up the 'display settings' from the link above.

Thank you everyone for the advice.

Sorry... I'm trying to post the screenshots I took with the 'snip' feature.
But this forum asks for the url ?
Can someone show me how to upload photos here from the 'my documents' folder or desktop ?
Like, drag and drop ?
Thanks !

Hi, -- the video I linked was from a walkthrough on YT. It was just to show how the game should be running ?

I also went into the NVIDIA , Control Panel, Manage 3D settings, Program Settings (advice from the GOG link) and try to turn on the VSYNC; but the game RTMI2, did not show up in the drop down menu ?

The game seems to be running a little less "stuttering" with the mouse 'Enhance pointer precision' turned off.
I may have to live with it.

Thank you! I didn't think your specs could be the issue because the game is so old, but it's always good to check and be sure.

ls this a "special" mouse pointer? Some games have fancy ones and it helps to turn the option off. One thing I thought of is going into your mouse settings and changing the mouse sensitivity.

I know you've turned off the pointer precision, but maybe move the slider for mouse speed up or down? Try this link...

I'll take a look at the options, thanks !

The pointer for the game is fairly simple, and I don't think there's an option to use the computers' default mouse.

I'll fiddle around a bit and will post it here if there's an improvement --- so that other people can see.

That would be great, Jesse_Arcana! Hopefully, you can find some combination of solutions that will work?

Sorry for being late to the party but if still no success you could try the tip from someone from the Steam panel, it's for I believe MI 1 but could work for MI 2:

Thanks, Starcom! If mouse settings don't help, maybe setting to Windows 7 compatibility will!

Good news !

I had forgotten, but I'd bought this game from Big Fish even though I'd owned the physical dvd disk.
So I uninstalled the BFG RTMI2 version; and installed it directly from the disk.
Voila' !
It works perfectly now.

The game producer is called "Iceberg Interactive" , so when the game starts now it has that logo, and not the BFG logo.
I have also purchased Kheops' Cleopatra and it's doing the same lagging/jumping even though I patched it with the 'flashing' fix.
So I may buy the Cleopatra game in the disk form.

There may be a disconnect in the BFG software and how the game operates on people's desktop PC's ?
Idk.
I can't speak for people who are playing it on other devices.

But hopefully this helps people trying to play Kheops' games.

Thanks again to everyone who provided advice !

Thank you so much for letting us know about this! You might consider letting BFG know about the issue. Happy gaming with a cooperative mouse!

You're all very welcome.

I will indeed email BFG.
I think it's an error in translating or collaborating Iceberg Interactive's software with BFG ?

Very happy for you that you got it working with the disk, as for the BFG version I read a lot of information from this Forum and other forums that BFG often modifies the larger adventure games to fit their criteria, so this is what might have happened to the BFG version of MI 2.

Return to Mysterious Island 2 is one of the games that Big Fish did not modify, based on my own experience of it. I have quite a few of the Kheops games from Big Fish and they are all identical to the disk versions.

Jenny used to talk about adventure games having been modified, but for the most part they were the Mac versions of the game.

That's interesting. I remember Jenny talking about them being modified, but I didn't know they were Mac versions. That would maybe explain why they don't work well on a Windows PC. I remember talking with Jenny about the "dumbing down" of so many of the games by Big Fish. Secret of the Nautilus comes to mind!

Yes, Secret of the Nautilus came out with a simplified version that had been remade into a casual game. And Syberia, while the game was not changed, was broken into two parts; however, that was the publisher's wish and not Big Fish. The dumbing down occurred primarily on Mac versions of certain games (and those versions were on other sites as well as Big Fish). My PC adventure game downloads from Big Fish (and I have many of them) are all 100% the original games.
