Ok - I have done a search here on this topic - as per above title - but obviously I am doing something wrong as hundreds of topics came up not even related to this game.
Now I have sailed through this game - but am stuck at Day 78 because I dont understand what to do with the lower separate grid with all the locked tiles. I do NOT want the solution - I just need a hint as to how to get to these unlocked tiles please.
Can anyone help please? I have looked at Gamezebo etc etc but cant find any help on the internet at all. Someone please make my Sunday a good day LOL!

There's also tips here (scroll down) for how to give yourself more lives. The last post in that thread says you need at least 3 fireballs to get past the level.

Thanks Misa - I already have the extra lives - Its extra TIME that I need LOL!
I managed to get three fireballs but after unlocking the two middle frozen tiles, what should I aim the fireball at next?
This game is just SO addictive.
Also I have anaother problem while playing this game. I have a new Logitech E110 cordless optical mouse and the cursor continually flickers and disappears whilst playing this and other Bigfish games. I have played 80 Days before with a normal corded optical mouse and did not encounter this problem. I have contacted BFG support, but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this problem?

Rosa, I have not seen a trainer for this game to turn off the timer. I haven't heard anyone say that a mouse made a difference in how a gamwe runs but I suppose it's possible. Let us know what BF says. Ana

Whoo Hoo - I finished the level (more by luck, I reckon!) and the first 80 days around the world - It took me the whole morning to crack these last few levels whiich I found very very hard.
Thank you for your help, without which I would be still tearing my hair out!!

Oh and about that flickering cursor - Duh - I went into Options to turn off the hints and there was also the option to "Use Custom Cursor" - I clicked ok and hey presto - all my problems were solved LOL!

Thanks Nikki!
I have been on the game info folder and I could find nothing about lives in it. I am on my Vista laptop. Maybe I might have more luck with the XP trying to change the number of lives. But I did try your hint about changing the time on the level folder and it worked! I was able to get Day 49 done in which I had already lost a couple of lives trying to get it done.
The timer was running but real slow. All I did was double the first number on each level in wordpad on "time ="

You are so right Nikki, it doesn't matter how many lives you have if you have to keep starting over again and again. You can't progress in the game, you are still stuck, starting over and over, waiting for the exact right conditions to happen. With the normal timer, it is too hard to finish the level and becomes totally frustrating. I wish all game developers would understand that the timer needs to be an option for ones that enjoy being timed. For some that is fun, and that is fine. For me, it is total frustration. To me a timer is like reading a book and being timed. No matter where you are, when the timer goes off, you have to restart the book. I can't concentrate on the book and enjoy it for worrying I am going to have to start all over again. And it has absolutely NO reason to be timed in the first place. Thanks again Nikki for finding the timer option! Koalanut

Bets, are you talking about this? For those of you who need more time (I have XP), go into notepad and following the same path as you did to change the number of lives, choose the file called "level". This files contains information on each level including the amount of time you are given. Where it says "time=400"(or something close), add a number in front like another 4 "time=4400". When I did this I noticed the timer moved extremely slow and finished a level before the timer seemed to even move. menauhune, are you still stuck?

Nope, haven't played that one yet--but I wanted to check. I know we do have members who have finished the game so hopefully, one of them will stop in. Bets, I've never played around in game files so I would be loath to tell you how. Have you asked the computer to search for a File named "level"? I found this from a link on the first page: ok that is easy for this game.
go to C:\My Games\Around the World in 80 Days
inside that there is a folder called "base"
inside that folder is a file called "gameinfo.xml"
open that file with something like word pad or notepad.
and find your profile name and then look for "lives=" and change the number of lives.
save and exit and go to start game.
have fun with those lives you will need them. This should be the general area where you can add more time. Yu would look for time as opposed to lives. Have you already tried that? Menahune, I still can't find any help for you on the web.

Hey you guys, I can not find the file you all are talking about. I opened Word Pad then opened 80 Days, opened base. There was no file called "gameinfo" Am I doing something wrong that I can't find it?
Bets
Edit: Question. For all of you who were able to set the time and levels, did you buy the game or download the free game? I downloaded mine as a free game of the day.

Flutist - Go into your folder called Around the World in 80 Days, and then open up the folder named Base. Lots and lots of subfolders in this folder set out in alphabetical order. Go about half way down the page and you will see a sub folder called gameinfo.xml. Then right click and it should say "Open with". Hope this helps.
HOWEVER I tried to change the timer and lives this morning and oops....now I am unable to play the game. The game fully loads but it just will not play. I think I may have somehow corrupted this sub-folder. With hindsight, maybe I should have copied this folder before I messed around with it. Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!
Any ideas anyone - other than downloading the whole darn game yet again, as I am now over my 1GB per month allowance!!

Have you got to the part in the puzzle yet with those annoying stone walls??? You will have great fun with them, especially in the levels beyond Day 70!

Rosa, try asking Bets or somneone else that made the changes to send you a screenshot of the altered files so that you can compare them to yours and fix it. When you are coding a period or space can render it useless. You may just have left a space or deleted a space where needed. Ana

Let me check. I think I have this game downloaded. Not sure. Be back.
----------- Open -------\Around the World in 80 Days\Base folder.
Open the text file that is labeled: 'level'.
Use a text file program, so that you can edit.
You will see the different levels. For example the first one; - <Levels> - <Level name="level_1.1" time="650" chips="0123" sun_inc4="0.01" sun_inc5="0.01" sun_inc6="0.01" tip_time="10" qMusor="50" bonusLevel="false" addBonusK="0.7">
The level_1.1 must be the first book and then the first puzzle.
Next comes: time="650". I think this is what Nikki is describing that you add a number to make it to thousands. For example add 6 before 650 to make 6650. Then it will increase your time.
Then save the text file. Save and load. See if that works.

I just happened to be stuck Level 78 of this older game (which I'd never been able to finish) myself when Rosaboomie posted, so I've been following this thread with interest. I really appreciate the suggestions with respect to adding time and, after doing so, was finally able to complete the game.
Instead of being gratified, however, the entire experience has left me feeling somewhat disturbed. In short, I feel like a cheat!
That's not to say, however, that I don't absolutely believe the modification is necessary to complete this game. But it just seems to me that a player SHOULDN'T have to do that.
I'm not opposed to a game requiring either great speed or an elegant and/or complex strategy. But it seems to me that completion should be within the realm of reasonable possibility, and the programming on this one just seems to be off. The game was so well designed, from the music to the graphics to the integrated storyline, I'm just really disappointed that they dropped the ball there. To go from horrible frustration to guilty completion is neither satisfying nor consistent with an enjoyable game experience!
The good thing that's come out of this, however, is that I now have a real appreciation for the many games, including some that do not fall within the time management category, that provide exactly the right amount of challenge. I didn't recognize the art involved in this, and I'm definitely adding it to the list of things I look for and appreciate in a game!

Go to GGOTD & go into their forum. Someone was having trouble with time & lives. They have a long list of how to change the lives & time.
Mome Duh - I know I am being real dumb here, and will probably regret asking this question - But what is GGOTD??

Having second thoughts about your advice on going into the level folder, MaG. That will not help my current problem which is I have meddled with the gameinfo file and I think it has got corrupted.
Anyone care to take up Ana's suggestion and let me have a screenshot of what this folder should look like please?

Rosa on level 78, just get the orange power 3 times & use it on the middle block of the bottom row. the third time finishes the game if you've gotten rid of the ones on the sides to drop.there's 1 on the outside rows, I think at the top.You must get the orange power balls before you use any other powers,

I'm on level 78. Need to add more lives and change my time again. Yikes, that level is nasty.

Darlene, I think it is call a "fireball". First you get the hammer, then the magnifying glass, then the bomb, the the fireball. I'm still working on it too. Got to increase my time again. Bets Okay, this calls for a seperate post. I got through level 78. Bets

Yes, yes, yes. Level 81. I can't seem to get more time then I have. I went into base then opened gameinfo with notepad. Changed the timelevel. Don't see just time by itself.

Call1e, I found the following info at http://www.freegamesnews.com/en/?p=87 One tip I’ve found. You need to buy time. You can’t stop the clock but there’s one way around this. Instead of clicking the eye on top right hand side, which leaves you just with the background and all tiles removed, click on the Menu (next to the eye) top right hand side. The screen will go dark but you’ll still be able to see the tiles and furthermore, you can click and drag the brown panel in the middle and position it where you want. Whilst you do this, the clock stops thus giving you however long you need to study future move. It has help me for level 78,79.80 and 81.
I found helpful for level 78 to not use the hammer for it’s a pointless endever. But build up your power until you have not just the bomb but the mega fireball thingy and then put your mouse in the middle of the bottom thing and blow it to kingdom come. Now it will take 3 times to get ride of them as the first time will crack them the second will free them up and the third will get ride of them all together giving you the pieces you need. I don't know if it will help you at all. Hopefully it will.
