Ok - I have done a search here on this topic - as per above title - but obviously I am doing something wrong as hundreds of topics came up not even related to this game.

Now I have sailed through this game - but am stuck at Day 78 because I dont understand what to do with the lower separate grid with all the locked tiles. I do NOT want the solution - I just need a hint as to how to get to these unlocked tiles please.

Can anyone help please? I have looked at Gamezebo etc etc but cant find any help on the internet at all. Someone please make my Sunday a good day LOL!

There's also tips here (scroll down) for how to give yourself more lives. The last post in that thread says you need at least 3 fireballs to get past the level.

Thanks Misa - I already have the extra lives - Its extra TIME that I need LOL!

I managed to get three fireballs but after unlocking the two middle frozen tiles, what should I aim the fireball at next?

This game is just SO addictive.

Also I have anaother problem while playing this game. I have a new Logitech E110 cordless optical mouse and the cursor continually flickers and disappears whilst playing this and other Bigfish games. I have played 80 Days before with a normal corded optical mouse and did not encounter this problem. I have contacted BFG support, but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this problem?

Rosa, I have not seen a trainer for this game to turn off the timer.

I haven't heard anyone say that a mouse made a difference in how a gamwe runs but I suppose it's possible. Let us know what BF says.

Whoo Hoo - I finished the level (more by luck, I reckon!) and the first 80 days around the world - It took me the whole morning to crack these last few levels whiich I found very very hard.

Thank you for your help, without which I would be still tearing my hair out!!

Congrats Rosa! I was just about to tell you that I think you can add more time by editing the gameinfo.xml file (same place where you can add more lives). I haven't tried it but I might and will report back to let others know the work around.

no hope of ever making it to day 78

stuck at day 49 ... all the pieces are blocked off in the middle column ... saw the HorseDancer hint about moving them over, but still no luck ... any other hints?

wouldn't have made it this far if I hadn't discovered how to increase the number of lives ... thanks to whoever sent that hint

For those of you who need more time (I have XP), go into notepad and following the same path as you did to change the number of lives, choose the file called "level". This files contains information on each level including the amount of time you are given. Where it says "time=400"(or something close), add a number in front like another 4 "time=4400". When I did this I noticed the timer moved extremely slow and finished a level before the timer seemed to even move.

I love it when I can do this, then I can relax and enjoy the game more without having to worry about running out of time.

Thanks Nikki!

I have been on the game info folder and I could find nothing about lives in it. I am on my Vista laptop. Maybe I might have more luck with the XP trying to change the number of lives. But I did try your hint about changing the time on the level folder and it worked! I was able to get Day 49 done in which I had already lost a couple of lives trying to get it done.

The timer was running but real slow. All I did was double the first number on each level in wordpad on "time ="

You're welcome! I haven't had any trouble finishing a level since I did that. It doesn't even matter that I have tons of lives. I seriously doubt that I'll need any of them. smile

Have fun!

You are so right Nikki, it doesn't matter how many lives you have if you have to keep starting over again and again. You can't progress in the game, you are still stuck, starting over and over, waiting for the exact right conditions to happen. With the normal timer, it is too hard to finish the level and becomes totally frustrating. I wish all game developers would understand that the timer needs to be an option for ones that enjoy being timed. For some that is fun, and that is fine. For me, it is total frustration.

To me a timer is like reading a book and being timed. No matter where you are, when the timer goes off, you have to restart the book. I can't concentrate on the book and enjoy it for worrying I am going to have to start all over again. And it has absolutely NO reason to be timed in the first place.

Thanks again Nikki for finding the timer option! wave

Hello Nikki, I have just spent 3 hours trying to add time & it still doesn't work. I found "level" went through & added a 4 to the beginning of each level---now what? Do I save? If so it won't let me. Keeps saying " cannot create this level" or "do not have permission to change"
Also I cannot find anywhere where it says "Lives" If I could just add time I might not need them.
Please ,could you walk this 70yr old dumb computer-ilit through this. Thank you very much

Nope, haven't played that one yet--but I wanted to check. I know we do have members who have finished the game so hopefully, one of them will stop in.

Bets, I've never played around in game files so I would be loath to tell you how. Have you asked the computer to search for a File named "level"?

I found this from a link on the first page:
Quote:
ok that is easy for this game.

go to C:\My Games\Around the World in 80 Days

inside that there is a folder called "base"

inside that folder is a file called "gameinfo.xml"

open that file with something like word pad or notepad.

and find your profile name and then look for "lives=" and change the number of lives.

save and exit and go to start game.

have fun with those lives you will need them.

This should be the general area where you can add more time. Yu would look for time as opposed to lives. Have you already tried that?

Menahune, I still can't find any help for you on the web. luck

Rosaboomie,

Look back through this thread for a message from me. There is a different file call "level" that is you can change the time allotment for each level. If you increase the number into the thousands you will have plenty of time for that level. You need to change the time for each level and then save the file. You should have plenty of time then.

It worked for me.

Hey you guys, I can not find the file you all are talking about. I opened Word Pad then opened 80 Days, opened base. There was no file called "gameinfo" Am I doing something wrong that I can't find it?

Bets

Edit: Question. For all of you who were able to set the time and levels, did you buy the game or download the free game? I downloaded mine as a free game of the day.

Flutist - Go into your folder called Around the World in 80 Days, and then open up the folder named Base. Lots and lots of subfolders in this folder set out in alphabetical order. Go about half way down the page and you will see a sub folder called gameinfo.xml. Then right click and it should say "Open with". Hope this helps.

HOWEVER I tried to change the timer and lives this morning and oops....now I am unable to play the game. The game fully loads but it just will not play. I think I may have somehow corrupted this sub-folder. With hindsight, maybe I should have copied this folder before I messed around with it. Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!

Any ideas anyone - other than downloading the whole darn game yet again, as I am now over my 1GB per month allowance!!

Well done Flutist - I knew you would get there LOL - It also took me a while to find this game info folder.

Have you got to the part in the puzzle yet with those annoying stone walls??? You will have great fun with them, especially in the levels beyond Day 70!

Rosa, try asking Bets or somneone else that made the changes to send you a screenshot of the altered files so that you can compare them to yours and fix it. When you are coding a period or space can render it useless. You may just have left a space or deleted a space where needed.

Let me check. I think I have this game downloaded. Not sure.
Be back.

-----------
Open -------\Around the World in 80 Days\Base folder.

Open the text file that is labeled: 'level'.

Use a text file program, so that you can edit.

You will see the different levels.
For example the first one;
- <Levels>
- <Level name="level_1.1" time="650" chips="0123" sun_inc4="0.01" sun_inc5="0.01" sun_inc6="0.01" tip_time="10" qMusor="50" bonusLevel="false" addBonusK="0.7">

The level_1.1 must be the first book and then the first puzzle.

Next comes: time="650".
I think this is what Nikki is describing that you add a number to make it to thousands. For example add 6 before 650 to make 6650.
Then it will increase your time.

Then save the text file. Save and load. See if that works.

I've changed the number of lives but can't find anything in the 'gameinfo' file that looks like "time="

these are the only references to time:

levelTime="63" timeToLevel="1140" sunEnergy="40" totalTime="37650

can you help me fix this, please

Menahune, I don't have this game but did you try increasing the level time?

Be sure you make a copy of the file before you do anything to it though, just in case luck

I just happened to be stuck Level 78 of this older game (which I'd never been able to finish) myself when Rosaboomie posted, so I've been following this thread with interest. I really appreciate the suggestions with respect to adding time and, after doing so, was finally able to complete the game.

Instead of being gratified, however, the entire experience has left me feeling somewhat disturbed. In short, I feel like a cheat!

That's not to say, however, that I don't absolutely believe the modification is necessary to complete this game. But it just seems to me that a player SHOULDN'T have to do that.

I'm not opposed to a game requiring either great speed or an elegant and/or complex strategy. But it seems to me that completion should be within the realm of reasonable possibility, and the programming on this one just seems to be off. The game was so well designed, from the music to the graphics to the integrated storyline, I'm just really disappointed that they dropped the ball there. To go from horrible frustration to guilty completion is neither satisfying nor consistent with an enjoyable game experience!

The good thing that's come out of this, however, is that I now have a real appreciation for the many games, including some that do not fall within the time management category, that provide exactly the right amount of challenge. I didn't recognize the art involved in this, and I'm definitely adding it to the list of things I look for and appreciate in a game!

GPN, It is possible to complete this game. At least to Journey 3, level 81. I did. when you pass Journey 1, they add blockers to add to the fun. I played it over and over for months. But it is possible. By the way I just turned 79. Never did CP games till last year. Lillian

Having second thoughts about your advice on going into the level folder, MaG. That will not help my current problem which is I have meddled with the gameinfo file and I think it has got corrupted.

Anyone care to take up Ana's suggestion and let me have a screenshot of what this folder should look like please?

Rosa on level 78, just get the orange power 3 times & use it on the middle block of the bottom row. the third time finishes the game if you've gotten rid of the ones on the sides to drop.there's 1 on the outside rows, I think at the top.You must get the orange power balls before you use any other powers,

lilkim55 - Hi Lillian, happy to meet another septuagenarian (sp?) gamer.

Now I have a question about 80 Days ... I finished the game too, at least to Day 80, but there's a Day 81 that has me stumped. I'll probably give it up now ... it's interfering with my dreams! Have you been able to get the wedding rings at Day 81?

Hi Janice, Yes. I have gone on to Journey 3. After you pass 81. (and you will if you keep at it) you start Journey 2. same boards, added difficulty. I have got to Journey 3 level 81. I stoped there. I played the game for months. Had enough. It's a great game. Lillian

I'm still working on it too. Got to increase my time again.

Bets and Darlene I did it the first time around, but am having trouble the second time. I try to match the tile that is in the bottom corners up so I can move an item over and have it drop down. Hope that will help yas!

Yes, yes, yes. Level 81. I can't seem to get more time then I have. I went into base then opened gameinfo with notepad. Changed the timelevel. Don't see just time by itself.

Where does this game go after completing the 1st 80 days?? Thanks to changing the lives & time stuff I was ablt to finally finish 1st 89 days. Started 2nd time around thinking there would be something different, the only thing I have seen are new tiles which look like clouds that I didn't notice the 1st time around. Unless you go to different countries I don't see much point in going on around & around again??

thanks

I'm needing help on Level 78. I've tried the hints here--changed the level time, added lives, used the fireball 3 times on the vertical locked tiles, and still run out of time. It's hard to get 4 matching tiles fast enough to upgrade the hammer before I run out of time--I usually get 3 matching tiles most of the time. Any other suggestions? I'd like to finish the game because I've been at it for weeks and would like to see how it ends.

Thanks,
Call1e

Call1e, I found the following info at http://www.freegamesnews.com/en/?p=87
Quote:
One tip I’ve found. You need to buy time. You can’t stop the clock but there’s one way around this. Instead of clicking the eye on top right hand side, which leaves you just with the background and all tiles removed, click on the Menu (next to the eye) top right hand side. The screen will go dark but you’ll still be able to see the tiles and furthermore, you can click and drag the brown panel in the middle and position it where you want. Whilst you do this, the clock stops thus giving you however long you need to study future move. It has help me for level 78,79.80 and 81.

I found helpful for level 78 to not use the hammer for it’s a pointless endever. But build up your power until you have not just the bomb but the mega fireball thingy and then put your mouse in the middle of the bottom thing and blow it to kingdom come. Now it will take 3 times to get ride of them as the first time will crack them the second will free them up and the third will get ride of them all together giving you the pieces you need.

I don't know if it will help you at all. Hopefully it will. luck

I was using the fireball at the top of the locked tiles on Level 78 instead of at the bottom. After using it at the bottom 3 times and freeing the 2 side tiles on the top level, I finally won Level 78. Then, all I had to do was complete Levels 79, 80, and 81. I had done as someone here suggested and went into the Level file and Game files on my hard drive and changed the time for the levels and the number of lives that I had and was able to slow the clock down enough to finish the game.

I don't know what will happen on Journey 2, but it will be interesting to find out.

I made it through Journey 2 just fine, but am stuck on Level 66 in Japan on Journey 3. I've tried several times but run out of time and can't get all 3 tiles free. I went to the "Game" and "Level" files to try and change the timer like I did on Journey 1, but couldn't figure which line of the script went with Journey 3 on either file. It still showed the changes I made earlier to slow down the timer on Journey 1, band I didn't know where to type in the extra numbers for Journey 3.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Call1e

Call1e, I've never altered game files, but some of our more savvy Around the World players will most likely be able to help. luck

That's O. K. I figured it out and finished Journey 3 of the game. I went to the "Level" file in the "Base" folder, and added 2 or 3 extra digits in front of the "Level 6.12" and/or "Level 6.13" text lines to allow me more time to complete the game. I'm tired of playing this now and am ready to go to something else.

Thanks for you help anyway.

I really liked this thread. It helped me a great deal. Thanks to the posters I was able to lenghthen my time limit and FINALLY get past day 78.

My question is - How long is this game? I've played day 80 and it just goes on. At what point have you completed the first journey? I'm on day 81 and there is talk of buying a wedding gown which suggests the game isn't complete yet. Is there a definite end to the first journey and a definite start to the new?

Sharon, I've never gotten that far into the game, but I believe that level 81 is the last level of the first journey - after that, you can start journey 2, and the game gets more challenging with each journey that you take. I have read of folks having gotten as far as journey 30 and more. Maybe one of these people will be able to give you more details. wave

Hi there, I am up to day 81 on journey 2 but it appears I am stuck. Any clues as I can't remember how I got the rings on Journey 1.

Marian, thanks! I completed day 81 and have finally won the game. One journey was enough for now. Plenty of challenge right there. I would not have been able to win if I had not extended my time limit so thanks again to those who posted what to do.
