I took delivery of The collectors edition of Machinarium. I contains a Game DVD, Music CD, Booklet and poster. The Music CD plays Music. the Game DVD will not install it brings up a small box titled Machinarium D drive and asks This disc or device contains more than 1 type of content - what do you want Windows to do? It then goes on to list 7 options,
Play
Create Disc
Copy CD
Copy pictures
View Slide show
Open folder
Take no action
I have tried all of them but cannot bring the game up, if I use Play it simply plays the music.
I have tried opening the file in My computer - D Drive, but still no luck. I have a brand new computer last week with XP (my choice) and loads of space, new drives (ATI). Can you help me??

If you do an Explore on the disk, do you find a file titled Machinarium_full_en.exe?

Mine is a download and that is the installation file. The "full" part is probably for the full game instead of the demo which yours likely won't have. Most likely, the file with the .exe extension on your disk is the installation file. It could also be called setup.

It's spring. My life is weeds.

No exe files at all, but I wonder if although it calls itself a Pc DVD it also says it is Mac dvd compatible, could it be only for mac's??

No luck with tech help so I contacted the suppliers and although it says pc game it is in fact only for macs, and they have agreed to refund the money. Pity I was looking forward to this game. I don't download because I have such slow broadband it would probably take all night.

Is your computer set to display extensions like .exe?

If not, the file would be called Machinarium_full_en without the .exe on the end.
(Or it may have a different name or be an .msi file or something).

What files and folders do you see when you explore the disc?

None of those involve running an install file, so none of them will work. That's normal for a disc with no autorun file.

The disc version of the game is supposed to work both on Mac and Windows -- there is no Mac-only version.

The Machinarium forums have a post that looks pertinent here. It looks like the manufacturer goofed pretty badly, and Mamba Games is working pretty hard to fix things.

Jenny I guess my computer should run .exe files - why wouldn't it? It is really strange I have never encountered anything like this before. I did explore the disc and there was nothing that resembled any type of file for installing, and I have had many problems in the past and am used to seeking out files. I have also never seen the box that I described before, I think it is something to do with windows media player.
Demosthenes (hope I got that right!) I have just read your post and I am so glad I'm not going round the bend, as I was sure I had checked that it was for pc, I will wait and reorder, but first I will check that it really is for pc's. I have to say that Play.com were very accomodating about returning it, which is more than I can say about other suppliers whom I won't name.

Monbron, I get that message about the

all the time unless I disable it so it won't show up anymore.

It sounds like Demosthenes found the reason for your problem and that there is no install file on your disc. I hope you're able to get a good replacement soon.
