Hi All,

I logged on to AS's site to download Lost Horizon but backed out of the purchase screen when I noticed that the familiar padlock indicating a secure site was not present. I emailed AS and received a response 3 days later that the site was secure & was told to view the Verisign logo at the bottom of the page. I don't know if this is a Windows 7 thing or not, but 7 is new to me and I am used to seeing that lock appear on secure transaction sites.

In any event I just now tried to buy the game and now the site refused my card. I have had CC's since they were invented and have never been refused before...So, now I am wondering just who The Adventure Shop is??? There are no phone numbers, no physical address, etc. & their response time is slow....may be due to the Holidays, but slow none-the-less. I did notice that the site tried to download an activex control on my pc without asking or informing me. Is that control necessary to complete a transaction?

THX for any help/insight you can provide.

Woodstock,
On Win7 you should still see the lock when you're on a secure site. The beginning of the "address" of the site should also begin "https" (the "s" on the end of that shows that it's secure).

The answer is....chocolate! Who cares what the question is.....

Thanks Mary....you're on the money...another one of those "When all else fails...read the directions" moments! In my defense, I am running IE9 Beta and it, along with W7 is a little learning curve....lots of things in different places. Still, they refused my card....they must need that activex control to process. Would be nice if they let the user know. Do you know where the download server is located? That can make a difference between a 1/2 hour download all the way up to 4 hours.

Woodstock,

The Adventure Shop refused my card once, too...several times...after I had bought more than one game from them. I emailed Support and asked them what was going on. Seems as if I'd bought too many games (3) in too short a time and for some reason that flagged me as...I don't know what. In the end, they whitelisted me and I haven't had any trouble since. So, you might try emailing Support if you keep having trouble.

Hi, Woodstock

All I can tell you is ...I have downloaded many games from the Adventure Shop with no problems...

Now... You do need to allow the ActiveX to download which "YES" is necessary... So your credit card info can go through...Windows 7 ...has nothing to do with the processing of credit cards that I know of...

Also I might add....Game Boomers would never support a Site if they thought it was a security problem for its members......The ActiveX download is coming from a trusted site...

I just purchased Lost Horizons from The Adventure Shop and had no trouble with my credit card. In fact that part was easy. I had problems with the downloading part. After the purchase was completed, it said "you can now begin downloading", but there was no arrow or button or anything to indicate how to start the download.

I had to go to my e-mail and print out my order receipt with a page and a half of download instructions; then go back to the Adventure Shop website, open my order details, and then I saw links to what I thought were the files.

Eventually I got it downloaded - took 13 hours with DSL internet service. (I did not have a Down load Manager - that's another story). Tonight I installed it - looks like a great game.

Thanks Darleen for all your help yesterday with the download.

Woodstock -- The Adventure Shop is affiliated with Gamesplanet/Metaboli. I'm not sure where the servers are, but I would guess they are in Europe. I've downloaded games from TAS many times in the past and everything has been secure. I'm also using Win 7, and secure sites do still have the "https" secure address in the URL box.

SuMac: Just to put in my 2 cents. Lost Horizon is a wonderful game. Just finished it. One of the best games I've ever played. Have fun.

Well, again I put Lost Horizon in my cart, proceeded to check out, got the iovation download & allowed it to install, proceeded with card info and again my card was refused. Don't know why this is continuing, but I think I am done with The Adventure Shop. FWIW, I use this particular card for everything & it has never been refused for any reason.

I flagged someone that should know. It is night time there - so response might be tomorrow.

Just to clarify - this is Iovation that was asked to be downloaded?

MaG, yes, not sure but it might have something to do with the ordering procedure. Whatever it is my order would not process due to card being refused. I sent them another note a day or two ago but have not heard back yet.

Heard from TAS & they felt it to be a communication problem with my bank. Perhaps it is because of the European charge....will call when they open and find out.

To Woodstock: You say "I am running IE9 Beta..." I am also testing IE9 Beta and I noticed many sites are not quite IE9 Beta ready including A.S. so you have to click on the small "Broken site Icon which is the one right next to the Url address bar, it looks like a Piece of paper torn in half, once you click on it, it will turn blue, or at least that's the colour on my screen". And hopefully this should help, I know I had troubles with other such sites and when I did this, it worked.

Good luck and fingers crossed
Ray

To all giving me a helping hand,

I called my bank and was referred to the CC department that informed me that the refusal was due to the fact that the charge was coming from Paris. Apparently, they have had a lot of fraudulent charges and as a result France is "blocked out" and requires prior authorization. With a call they will unblock my card for 24 hours. So, it looks like I will be good to go as soon as I can dedicate the lenghty download time. Thanks to everyone that gave me a helping hand!

David
