[b][b][b]I found a site on the web that says you can run the game by typing the following code in DOSBOX:
mount c C:\ mount e E:\ -tcdrom E: Install.bat
It is supposed to let you install the game from DOS, but when I tried, I got an error message saying that there was a "fatal error: creating "C:\HOLMES2.BAT", and that the game hadn't been installed.
I was trying to run this through DOSBOX 0.74. I have Windows 7, 32-bit system. and Internet Explorer 8.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Call1e

I tried it again and still can't get the configuration right. Would it be possible to use the DOS "Copy" command to copy the game files from my CD-RM drive to my C: drive and play the game that way? I've never tried it that way, but I did create an ISO image of the CD and mounted it in a Virtual CD application. What exactly seems to be wrong with the configuration file?

Well, I installed DOSBox 7.4 on my old Dell, and I didn't seem to have any trouble getting Rose Tattoo to install and run. I only played up to the part where the intro videos are over and you start playing as Watson.
I installed DOSBox 7.4 directly into C:\ I don't know if that makes a difference.
I also created a C:\DOSgames folder to be the C: drive for DOSBox.
After starting DOSBox, at the Z: prompt I typed
mount c c:\dosgames\
to give DOSBox its own personal C: drive. Then I typed
mount d D:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl
to mount my D drive as DOSBox's D drive.
If you have more than one CD drive, DOSBox says this: mount d D:\ -t cdrom -usecd @ -ioctl where @ is the number of your CDROM if you type mount -cd
When I typed mound -cd, I got 0. D: 1. E:
so if I wanted to use the second drive for DOSbox, I'd have typed
mount d D:\ -t cdrom -usecd 1 -ioctl instead of mount d D:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl
------------
Once I had all the mount stuff out of the way, I typed D: to switch to the D: drive (CD drive). Then I typed DIR to get a list of the files on the CD. Then I typed Install (typing install.bat would also work) and the install started right up. It created a Holmes2 folder and a Holmes2.bat file inside the C:\DOSgames folder that DOSBox thinks is C:
Immediately after the Install, the Setsound configurator popped up. I chose the defaults (Soundblaster 16) and let it autodetect for both midi and digital.
After that, the game was good to go. Just type Holmes2 and it started right up.
If you want to stop DOSBox, try Control-F9 (hold down the Control key and press the F9 key).
