I got my copy today and have been playing this evening. I made a Panda, but not a monk. I'm lousy at melee. So I went with a shaman.
I really like the starting zone. It's crowded, but not as crowded as other expansions on the first day have been. Unless everyone is waiting for the first few days.
One new thing I discovered is you can't look for a guild until you join a faction, and I think that's at level 10.
Does anyone know if there will be trainers? My spells just pop in immediately as soon as I level. I really should have purchased the guide. Sigh.

Hi Jean! I played a little bit until I lost my internet connection last night. Also I had been playing in the beta for a while. The trainers don't do much anymore. I played a Panda in the beta. It was fun! Andrea Edit: Re the guild....Since guilds are faction specific, that would make sense.

Yeah I updated digitally a while back, but I'm gonna wait for addons to catch up too besides, I have way too much going on right now... with Sims 3, Star Wars, The Secret World. All have had/having new content lately/today...

Just to let you know, I updated all my add-ons and everything seems to be working well. Pandaren starting area isn't overly crowded like it was when beta started. That was crazy and really tried my patience. Of course, we all don't use the same add-ons it's true..... Andrea

I forgot all about add-ons, its been so long since I played. Mine are all shut off. I won't try turning any one for a little bit, and since I'm just starting a new toon that's not a problem. Maybe in a few days I'll see if there are updates to them.

I wasn't going to play this game until Nov., but just couldn't resist. I have a lvl 10 Monk, so far it has been fun. I played my lvl 85 through some of it. That was intense and crazy, Pip died a few times. I saw players that were aready lvl 90 and the game just came out. One was riding a Wind Dragon thing. Pretty cool looking. Jean, you no longer train for spells. They just happen when you lvl. The only thing trainers to now is for a trade, dual spec, reset talents and I think reset glyphs. You must keep checking your spellbook for new things.

Thanks, Lindy! Right now I'm not playing my 85's since I forgot how. Maybe I'll feel motivated later. I hit level 10 this morning on my Panda. At what level do we get to choose faction? I thought it was 10, but I guess not. I hope soon cause I want to look for a guild.

I chose my faction at lvl 12 when my Pandaren Monk finished the starting area last night very late. Slept in this morning. LOL Linda! I use Curse Premium for my add-ons and keeping them up to date is super easy. Best thing I've ever done. See you all in game! Enjoy! Andrea Edit: LOL MissLilo! Enjoy Sims 3!

Hi Andrea! How much is Curse premium? I have Curse, but it doesn't mention what the premium service costs, and I don't want to have to buy it to find out, lol.
I updated some of my addons last night.

Thanks, Andrea. I'll check it out next month when I have money. I'm glad to see they fixed herbalism. I started a mage a little while ago and all the herbs were way over her level. She had to go back to areas and get them when she was past the area. Now the herbs are available at lower levels. Specifically bruiseweed and briarthorn. It drove me crazy! Now myh panda can farm as she quests.

I got on my 85 shammy today and headed out to Jade Forest. OMG I am rusty! And mobs attack in groups! Something I'm not used to in Wow. I guess Blizz finally decided to make it tough on us, lol. I'm going to have to start reading the forums, etc to find out what the new gear is, what I need, etc. I sure hurts replacing what used to be epics with greens.

My shammy is elemental, so should be ok. I'm just not fast enough, lol. Although I haven't died yet, so I guess I'm doing ok. I do keep healing myself though. I started a Panda monk the other day, but I'm so lousy as melee that I'm not sure how she'll do. So I got her to level 3 and went onto other toons.

Hi ya JeanK, she'd need to buy the original and all the various expansions. But the good news is she can get The original plus BC plus Wrath for $19.99. Then I think she'd need to add Cataclysm and then Mists. She could do it all via digital download from the Blizzard Store, but they are all available in hard copy too.

Thanks, Looney! I'm not even sure if she can play it because her computer is old, but she wants to try the guest pass. I'm waiting for her to call now.
It would be fun to have a real life friend play. All these years I've been asking my daughter and other people I know, and no one else want to, lol. They don't know the fun they're missing.

Yes, it will be fun. I'm lucky to have a hubby and 2 sons that play. I don't get to play with my VA son very often, but my AL son and of course, hubby and I play together and it is much easier.

Hmm, you sure the Guest pass is for Pandaria?? I thought it was just for the vanilla WOW game...

The guest pass is for up to level 20, and doesn't mention Pandaria, so I assume it's only for vanilla Wow. My friend was unable to install it because her Mac is too old, sigh, so she can't play until she gets a new computer.
One thing I've noticed this time around is the people in the instances where you do looking for dungeon tend to really rush through the instances. The tanks keep on going, pulling huge groups of mobs, and not waiting for the rest of the group. I'm guessing they are people who have been playing for years and just don't care much about anything except getting through to the end. Either that or they are brand new tanks. In the 6 years I've been playing Wow I hadn't seen that going on as much, like these days.
I do a few instances each day on 2 toons, and people have run out for pizza, others have asked the group to wait so they can have dinner or make phone calls. That used to happen before, too, but I don't remember it happening as much.

Wow, Jean I really have though about rolling a tank just to avoid things like that, but am not sure I'd be able to take the nastiness tanks sometimes encounter.

I know what you mean, L4. Healers and tanks get the most grief in the game, which is why I don't heal anymore. I wish I was better at melee, but I'm way too slow!

My shadowpriest on Draka is 35! I can slow down and not play her until you both are close to that level, so we can do an instance. I've got toons in the 30's, 40's and 80's scattered around. So let me know!

I am too with mine! I'm supposed to do that Stranglethorn instance with my 85 priest tonight. This is going to be hilarious. It's the quest line that starts at the docks in SW.

It turns out the instance was heroic, and I did it with 4 guildies. It was fun, although 2 of us kept dying since we didn't know what we were doing. The rewards in the end were kind of worthless, though. Just trinkets you could wear with no value.
But it was the first run with a new guild so it was good to get to know people!

Cool JeanK! I've only done 1 dungeon and I was so confused the whole time. But that was with my son tanking and he goes super duper fast.

Oldfeeble, you can make Panda characters (like the goblins of last time). Of course, they have their own starting area. Once you've finished that, you are out in the world. Soot and I are seeing it all with fresh eyes as we played on the Horde side for Cataclysm.
There is a new class, Monk which you can play without having MoP.
There is a new land, Pandaria to explore with your high level folks and for hunters, there are new pets.
There are new dungeons in Pandaria, of course.
You can now battle Companion Pets which I enjoy quite a bit.
The talent system has been revamped and simplified.
KISA and I took a year break and are having fun with the new content.
What server did you play on?

Hi Oldfeeble! One thing I like about this expansion is they have revamped a lot of the quest areas. For example, Western Plaguelands now have been mostly tamed by the Aliance except for some areas, and those you have quests in. So it's interesting to visit those old areas to see how they've changed. I'm leveling some new toons just to see that.
I like this expansion better than Cataclysm.

Hi Oldfeeble! I second the comments by Jean and L4L, The older areas seem fresh and new and lore and the quests have changed. I'm very pleased with the changes. The Pandaria area is for level 85 and higher. If you start a Pandaren, you begin there, but you can't go back until you reach those higher levels. Many of us have toons on Draka and a few other servers. Hope you'll join us! Andrea

Yep, yep - most of my toons are in the Gameboomers Guild on Draka. Since MOP we have climbed from a lvl 6 I think to a lvl 10 guild - YAY!!! Goes fast with the new quest there. So come join us and have the guild level even faster...

Gratz Mis Lilo! Exciting times. There are so many dailies in this expansion!! Maybe there were too in Cata, but I didn't do them, and quit after getting my priest and shammy to 85. My priest is 90 now and started the dailies last week. I especially like that you can start cooking in the Pandaria area. I'm having fun learning how to grow things!

Yes, it's nice that they removed the daily 25 limit. You can literally spend hours doing dailies now. Owlheart got her Jade Serpent yesterday, so she is so happy. Snow hit 90, and started her dailies but sadly cannot ride Heart's Serpent. She can however ride the red cloud mount. I'm going to fly Snow out to the Jade Forest today and see if she can train cloud riding. And of course, I'm taking toons to play games at the Darkmoon Faire as there are pets and mounts out there with my name on it.

I'm doing the Cloud Serpent quests also, and am about 2 days away from having my serpent. Can other people ride your along with you? So many new things in Wow.

Hi ya Jeank, Nope, the Jade Serpent is a single person mount. There are bigger and fancier serpent mounts that you get from different folks but I haven't done those yet.

Finally friday! Haven't been able to play all week due to being too tired after work. Hopefully I'll get a little playtime in tonight... And yes - will be daylies - probably fishing & cooking first.

Just curious... How many characters does everyone have and how many guilds do you belong to? What are your favorite classes to play and do you do lots of instances and raids?

hi , debra !
i have a human rogue (85% to 86 !)
a draeni shadow priest ,at 83 and a half,
and a dwarf mage ,at around 53,i think .
i only belong to one guild , and i like the dungeons if i go with people i know - i'm not crazy about the raid-finder thingy. haven't done a lot of raids , but thought the ones i did were fun.
i really like my rogue for questing , but am doing better with her in dungeons ,and the priest is fun for both.i haven't updated the priest yet ,though - only had my new computer a few days.

Niteowl, the drops are really good for those first few levels. You can replace all your gear. Debra, I have 3 "mains"...a 90 mage on blade, a 90 hunter on Draka, and a 62 monk on Draka as well. I've also played with a rogue, a priest, and both a feral druid and a boomkin, and flirted with a DK. As you can see, I'm a confirmed altaholic. I love the cooking and growing, especially now that I can grow motes My mage still does some heroics because son pokes me and says "Mom, let's que." Neither my hunter nor my monk have done any dungeons on the way up. We may do some once we pop 90, but I disliked the Cata dungeons so have no hankering to do those again. Son is after my mage to Look for Raid and I expect she will, but most likely won't with the other 2 though I would like to do some scenarios with all 3. My mage is in a guild on BB and all my other alts are in the GameBoomers guild on Draka, which is gaining levels well. We are about 1/2 way to 14 now. Ana, you need to come join us!

niteowl07 - for me it took around 30-40 hours. Mostly because I'm a really slow quester... I tend to get sidetracked, lol

Niteowl, I really don't know. I keep my experience bars turned off so I can just enjoy the questing and the world without thinking "Oh, I need to go to a higher area for better XP."
I like to quest out an area before moving on though that is not the fastest way to 90.
I like to do dungeons with folks I know, but just right now I don't want to deal with dungeon pressure. As we don't raid, there isn't anything we actually need the better gear for except to make dailies easier.

I'm slow too! LOL! I have 2 85 Ally toons, a hunter in the GB guild and a Mage in Kitty Cat Death Squad. I have a Pandaren Monk at lvl 43 in KCDS also. I have 1 Horde hunter in a guild called Anemia at 85. All my toons are on Draka. I have a couple of other toons that are not active at the present. So glad more of us are able to play! I've been doing a lot of reading and am trying to get back to playing more often. I don't do raids, but I love dungeons if I can do them with friends or guild members. So many of the younger players have no patience and I refuse to be subjected to hateful people. Andrea PS I'll be glad to give my battle tag if you PM me.

Well, I am ashamed to admit I have 50 toons, 4 of which are 85 or greater, but lots of 20's to 70's. I belong to 12 guilds over 7 different servers and I have made an Excel spreadsheet to keep up with Ventrilio info, GM's for each guild, character professions and days I am going to play them. I have no life I love character creation, but leveling not so much. Dungeons are scarey because some people are so demanding and unforgiving and my reflexes aren't what they used to be. I am just in it for the fun and I don't want to fuss over who gets the roll for some whoop-tee-do item. I'd like to do dungeons, but it's hard to get a group of like minded people together at one time. I have confessed my addiction and I'm sure it will help me. Excuse me while I go play MoP .

debra , stay away from dr.phil ! i play in a very laid back level 25 guild ,and that rudeness is not something the members would put up with - one of the mottos states "if you can't wipe and laugh , go somewhere else". i also play to relax , and am fairly new , so often make mistakes - no one in my guild gets upset , so it helps the learning process. lol - i have enough trouble with 3 ! nice to hear what other people play !

I'm sure I need Dr. Phil niteowl! LOL But, like Robert Heinlein says, "Everything to excess. Moderation is for monks". What server do you play on and what's the name of your guild? They sound like a really nice bunch. The guilds I belong to are super, but I'm just gun shy about dungeons now. I had some bad dungeon finder experiences. Oh, well onward and upward. See you in the game I hope.

debra ,i play in cairne for the "bloodguard". my nephew and b-i-l joined it when the game first started , then their gm quit and gave them the guild - lol. this past year they talked my sister and i into joining , so everyone could do something together. my brother and his gf in california play also , as well as many of the members' friends and family.gets really silly and funny sometimes ! unfortunately , we lost several key members while i was away, who leveled up , then left to start their own guild ( it happens a lot i guess ) so our membership is way down right now . so i guess we can't raid or do many dungeons until we get some more people. right now , i'm just questing (and getting lost as usual ! ) in pandaria ! have fun !

Yes, I was in a wonderful guild on Ghostlands called Carpe Noctis and quite a few people in the guild had major life changes occur; GM got divorced, sickness, some of them going back to school, etc and the guild was turned over to a nice guy, but someone who was not very mature and drama occurred. Needless, to say lots of players changed guilds and I like L4L have seen it happen lots of times over my 5 years of playing. I haven't raided or done many dungeons since then. It just wasn't as fun for me. I belong to lots of nice guilds but I'm just afraid I won't meet up to expectations or drag them down in dungeons so I don't go. It's not fair to them as I haven't given them a chance to prove me wrong but.... I'm always on the bottom of Omen for most DPS no matter how I try. I do have a slow internet, but I'm sure I factor into it too. Sometimes I wonder if I'm too old to play this game, but it certainly has given me lots of hours of fun! I've gotten my hunter, Intouch, on Ghostlands up to 88 and Pandaria is fun. Can't wait until I can fly again.

Hey, none of this too old talk! What we lack in reflexes we make up in canniness and common sense. Son gives players who harass me the "So, you just cussed out a g'ma. Feel better now?" line, but I just put them on ignore and do what I can. Son is hoping to get his DK up eventually so he can tank for us. Hunters are sooooo much fun, and if you get a water strider pet, you can walk on water.

My lock Pipendelly has hit lvl 90 and can ride flying mounts only I keep forgetting that I can fly. Right now I'm doing dailies and know why they removed the cap there are tons to do. I'm also doing a lot of quests. It would be easy to lvl higher than 90. I have a horde hunter on Blades Edge that I need to lvl, right now I think she's lvl 86. That's the server my son plays on, but with a new baby he doesn't have much time. Looking forward to getting some new pets.

Andrea, they are everywhere and it's great for fishing. Lindy, son says warlocks can now walk on water with a spell (but I don't know which one) and that one does not break on damage which is unusual. We are on Burning Blade cos that is where middle son plays, but lately hubby and I have been playing on Drakka. I understand the new baby thing as son also has a new baby and his playing time is down too.

Woooo Hooooo, Soot and I and son did some old raids last night. We did Obsidian Sanctum, and we all got the "of the Nightfall" title. Son got the mount so we will be doing it again so the rest of us can get the mount We started doing ICC and got past the 1st 2 bosses. We got stuck on the Gunship. It's lots of fun cos there is no stress. We plan to continue doing these so if anyone wants to join us, let us know and we can try to plan the time instead of just going by the seat of our pants.

Okay guys, We are planning to raid ICC (unless someone has something else they'd rather do) Sunday night at 6 server time. We can all meet in Dal. If you have vent, that would be great for communication. If you let me know which class of toon you are bringing, we will provide flasks. We are doing this for fun, so let's all come together and have a good time. Most of the fights will not be a problem, but the Lich King himself has some mechanics. So if you have time, go to utube and watch a clip. There is something that spawns on the ground that we all need to stay out of. Guess which of us will stand in it.

You will want to download the vent client. You don't have to do anything to your sound files. Yes, we can certainly give the vent a run through. I'll get the settings from hubby and pm them to you. I could just look at my settings on my computer but want to be sure what I give you is what you need. Andrea, you bringing your hunter?

Nope we did not think that at all! Asha isn't 90 either yet! I had fun! Now we just need to figure out why you can't hear us as that would make it much more fun for you.

WooHoo Andrea, way to go! Debra, I can understand that! I'm grinding rep with 3 different toons right now Whenever you are ready to join us, we'd love to have you. Son is tanking now so a lot of the pressure is off. He knows that my reflexes are not the same as a 20 year old and that I don't switch as well as they do either, so he takes the time that is needed to make it fun.

oh , l4l - that makes it so nice ! only reason i ever see to fly through a dungeon is one of the special achieves , and that's usually only one boss, not the whole danged thing. some of the mechanics on these little quest bosses are interesting , too. i've managed 1/2 way through 88 on my rogue - haven't had much time to play. and don't forget the monthly stuff at darkmoon fair , guys - those extra profession points and xp should help a little ! had to take my 85 spriest and put her on the airboat ,hoping to group with my sister so she can find the parachute to land in pandaria - wish us luck ! see you later !

Niteowl, I agree. My mage runs dungeons from time to time with middle son, who got the rest of the family playing. He has limited time and is well geared (raider) so he moves super fast! I just run frantically trying to hit something from time to time and every now and again, I get to loot something. We went nice and slow last night and did 2 dungeons with eldest on Draka and I understood much more about what was happening. Sadly, it was buggy and some of the quests did not complete even though we did the objectives, but that was ok. I'm sure we will get another chance. on grouping with your sister. Beware of the phasing that occurs so if you guys want to play together you need to be careful not to play that toon alone.

I just turned 90 but I don't know what faction to join. Which is easiest for me to get started with? Where did you start your farm and how?

Congratulations! All the farming takes place at Half Hill (Valley of the 4 Winds) You go out there and talk to Farmer Yoon. You will start with 4 plots but it will grow and get polished as you gain rep with the different people out there. I'm not sure what you mean by which faction to join? Most folks go do dailies with the Order of the Cloud Serpent in Jade Forest so they can get the Cloud Serpent mount. The best thing to do is to google what the various faction rewards are and see which ones appeal to you the most. I do them all, but then I'm a glutton for punishment and I like mounts and most of the factions have mounts at Exalted. There is a new Faction Quest which you pick up in the Vale that sends you to Karasang. Those are really good to do as they have nice rewards. These just came up in patch 5.1 so lots of folks are doing these. On a pvp server, that means lots of ganking. We are going to start them on Draka tonight, so I'll know in a bit if they pop your pvp flag on a normal server or not.

Thanks for the info L4L. It gives me a place to start. I get so focused on questing to get level capped, I lose track of everything else.

Lol, Debra I do too. A lot of folks also go out to the Anglers in Karasang. There are 2 to 3 dailies there that normally don't take long. They have a water strider mount and a pet. It really depends on what you are looking for.
