Hello fellow gamers
I got this game as a present and heard it was supposed to be good, but I have been very disappointed so far as I cannot seem to get through the enforced tutorial at the beginning of the game! I just cannot seem to activate the multizone object view, where you can see more than one clue and switch views? The instructions the game gives do not work for me, I am playing on an alienware laptop so I don't have a mouse but I thought it should work with the touchpad and buttons. Has anyone else encountered this problem and is there a way round it, I just want to get on with the game, can't get past the first few minutes and feel that this tutorial is the opposite of helpful!!

Before you can do much in the game; you have to follow all that is stated by the tutorial. Like walking using the keys - WASD.
Also the point of view is asked to be changed - then that is activated.

It is a very good game for me and lot of other adventurers. You might like it later after you learn the controls. luck

Hi MaG
i have been tryng to follow the tutorial instructions but can't get them to work, i have been walking round, looked at the broken glass in the cabinet and at the window fingerprints but when it tells me to use the mouse to activate multizone I can't get that to work and am at a loss as to how to get round this. I am not usually stumped by games and have played many many games of different kinds so I am used to finding out how to do things, but I can't seem to get past this! I must either be doing something wrong or the game isn't working well with my laptop maybe.

Hi Vegpot,

Sorry that you're having problems with the tutorial. When you say multizone, do you mean needing to switch from first person to third, for example? You can do that alternatively by pressing R on your keyboard. What does the tutorial box onscreen say exactly? smile

Hi Rushes
I am stuck at the point where the tutorial says 'to enter examination mode with multizone press (left mouse button) you can switch cursor between items by using wasd keys, look at both clues now'

The prolem is I cannot get his multizone feature to activate, maybe it is me not understanding what I need to do but I have tried different clicks, views and can't think of anything else I can do. Holmes just moves around when I try clicking and describes the clue but I can't see more than one clue ...

Thanks for any help you can offer smile

Thanks, Winfrey. That might help. smile

There are two points of interest to note at the window (it's the window closest to the fireplace) -- the large circular scratchmark on the pane, and the lock mechanism at the bottom of the sill. So be sure you have the correct window. Perhaps switch viewpoints, from first to third person or vice versa, see if a different camera angle makes it any easier. Then look for the magnifying glass icon at each point -- move closer to the window until one or both appear to click on.

luck

Winfrey thank you so much, I never thought of checking Youtube for help - your suggestion has solved my problem!! The way the game works on my laptop/screen doesn't seem to show 2 magnifying glasses ie clues at once unless I am in first person view and at a very particular distance and position?!! Also, the tutorial advice says to click left mouse button but that wasn't doing anything, so the problem I had seemed to be a mixture of issues with the way the game is playing or displaying on my laptop.

Thank you too Rushes, I am back in the game - but I will have a better chance of getting past any further display 'funnies' after this!

Vegpot, you might try buying a little mouse for your laptop. You can get them just about anywhere for as little as $10.00. I use one all the time and love it, especially for gaming- its much faster and more accurate than the touchpad.

I am further on in the game now, and have enjoyed it very much so far. However, I can't seem to trigger being able to get past the red rope behind the theatre. The prince is still there but won't speak to me any more, I can't think what I haven't done or how to get past this block. I have checked the walkthrough and I can't see anything that I haven't done, I hope this isn't a glitch or bug of some kind, any help would be appreciated!

Hi Vegpot,

Is the Prince holding poor Watson hostage yet? You won't be able to get past the ropes until he is.

If Watson is with you, then either you've missed a dialogue with the Prince, or there's something that still needs doing back outside. Have you explored the caravans thoroughly, and the shed areas to either side of the caravans? Have you peeped through the windows of the caravans? And how about the carousel?

Hi Rushes smile
Yes Watson is still with me, so you're right, I must have missed something, I thought I had done all the things you have just suggested, but I will go and retrace my steps around the fairground *yawn* where I have been wandering for quite some time!!

OK, I have watched the youtube video, and I remember the prince saying about taking Dr Watson hostage, but for some reason, this event did not trigger what happens in the video. The situation I am in is that the Prince is refusing to speak to me, and Dr Watson and Holmes can wander round freely but not access any more of the theatre. When I approach the Prince, he simply says something to send them away and I can't initiate any more conversation. So I can only think this is some kind of glitch in the game, I will have to try and reload from the last auto save but I'm not sure how far back that is frown oh dear, well I'll try and go back to an earlier stage and see if I can make the right thing happen ... thanks for your help eveyone so far, I will let you know if I get past this!

Vegpot, if you'd prefer a saved game past this point, let us know. Otherwise hopefully you won't have to replay too much. The auto save is infrequent -- always best to make your own, regular save points. grin

Winfrey, I have messed with the chimney and the caravans but couldn't seem to do any more, it didn't seem to be the right time or something. I haven't managed to go back to the game yet, I will try again later and see what if anything I can make happen smile

OK folks, I am pleased to say I have managed to get past this glitch! I had a save game from not too long beforehand in the fairground, so I went back and chose a different conversation thread with the prince, this seemed to work and trigger the game correctly! I am no longer stuck, thanks for helping me! Hopefully I won't get stuck again now, I think I'm near the end of the game smile
