...is on sale at Gametap. I'm looking forward to this one, even though I'm betting it can never be as good as Thief 2. More Thief!!!!

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Are you serious Hagatha?! I still have my old Thief game. That would be fantastic if there is a new one! bravo

I'm still not sure on this one. Max Payne 3 ended up being a big disappointment for me as it lacked the atmosphere of the originals.
Loved I, I Gold, II, IIx and even DS.

I know. The first two Thief games were so incredibly great. DS was okay, not up to the originals even though the graphics were better. But who knows? Maybe this will be more like 1 and 2.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I'm hoping that it will be great but have my doubts. I didn't care for DS nearly as much as the first two games and Thief Gold. I want the old Garret back but I hear he has been replaced.

That he has. You can see it in this trailer Thief reboot I would have loved to see Viktoria make a return from the ashes myself. Just like you I have my doubts on the reboot, mostly because I enjoyed the plots in the first two games.

While in the reboot, nothing is known of the plot/setting and the only thing that basically has been shown is how much the graphics have been improved and a stealing mission

Yes, it's all true about Garrett's voice.

But you know, though DS wasn't as good as the originals, it was still a darned good game. It just suffers in comparison. Thief 2 was an impossible act to follow, just like Deus Ex.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

And that is the whole problem summed up in 1 short sentence. Will probably buy it and will probably love it but the classic games are impossible acts to follow.

I'm a big Thief fan as you might guess from my forum name smile

DS was not too bad considering it was meant for PC and Console and had to make some sacrifices for the different platforms in gameplay, the first two were PC only games but DS did have one of the scariest levels of any RPG game ever during the Cradle level, just awesome played in the dark alone with headphones on.

No beating Thief Gold and Thief 2 game-play though, especially with the graphical mods they have had since release and also the wonderful T2X.

Are you Taffers aware you can download for free and legally The Dark Mod V 2.0 now? No need to install Doom 3 first any-more (it uses its game engine) its pretty much one click and go, it really does play like Thief now, one of the best fan mods in any game ever IMHO, you can download from its interface dozens of good fan missions too, would recommend doing the default one and training one first to get used to the controls and interface, then (small) download through game "A Night to Remember" ... Its very good indeed. Will certainly keep me going until Thief 4 arrives next year with the dozens upon dozens of fan missions to try yet.

The Dark Mod

As for T4, I really don't know what to think? Its been delayed a lot, no traditional Garret? graphics look very good but graphics are not everything, looks like stealth is still in though, for sure better than nothing and hopefully its a winner.

Hagatha, what mission are you playing? I need to get with it and download the Dark Mod. I haven't been finding many T2 missions lately.

I played the one that came with the download of TDM, Tears of St. Lucia. It is absolutely gorgeous looking, though very short.

The TDM download comes with an easy download page which links to a number of missions and downloads them directly to the correct folder, but I haven't been able to work out how to download and install missions from the TDM website itself.

I know, the heyday of T2 missions seems to be over. I have to get with it and download recent ones for my library so I don't miss anything, but the lovely long series missions don't seem to be coming as often.

Hagatha, how long did it take to d/l TDM? I've had it running for what seems ages now and appear to be stuck at 435 kB. So far at least an hour.

Update: Stopped and started again as a new d/l. Seems to be working now.

Glad it finally worked for you. It's a big download, so took about 45 minutes on my laptop.

Having fun yet?

EDIT: I'm in the middle of the TDM mission Requiem, and it really is wonderful. Lots of layers to it, starts out one thing and ends up another -- my favourite kind.

Change for the better confirmed for Thief 4.

EIDOS

Quote:
Stealth reboot Thief no longer includes any quick time events, developer Eidos Montreal has confirmed.

"We're not implementing them," studio spokesperson Valérie Bourdeau explained. "To begin with, there were very few instances of QTEs in the game; in fact there was only one in that whole hour-long E3 demo.

"However, given the strong reactions it evoked in the press and the community, it was an easy decision to do away with them entirely. So we're not doing it. No quick time."

Other features discussed by the development team included confirmation that game won't feature any swimming sections, and details of the "hardcore" difficult mode where you can toggle modifiers to make your play through more challenging.

"Hardcore mode... allows players to customize the game in a number of ways. One of my favorites is the Ironman: if you die, game over. Hey, what is life without a little risk? We even added a "If the enemy detects you, you die" mode. Now combine that with the Ironman... You get the point!

"There is also the possibility to disable Focus and related abilities, as promised. This is in addition to the option to disable specific elements of the UI, like the reaction icons for NPCs. The UI list is pretty extensive, so don't worry, you will be able to get the game just the way you like it."

I have mixed feelings about all this. I see things that I might not approve of, like an equal emphasis between combat and stealth, and there's more of a cinematic feel to it, with cut scenes involving other people, which interferes with the sense of isolation that I loved in the original games. But you know, the game has to evolve. A lot of people dissed Thief DS, but I thought a few of the levels were fantastic (Shalebridge, anyone?). It was different, but still Thief. It can't possibly be the same as it was, and it would be a mistake to try. I'm really willing to give this a chance.

I hope Benny makes an appearance, though. I'd find it difficult to forgive an absence of Benny.

Hi hagatha. Tell us which of the mods you really like. I'm going to get started on this and am excited that there is something new to play.

Pokey, the one that stands out head and shoulders above the rest is Requiem, which is amazing.

Glenham Tower is a another goodie.

Business as Usual is a very good sneak and steal mission.

I'll see if I can remember some of the other that really stood out for me, but honestly, the quality is so very good it's tough to find a bad mission.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I have downloaded and installed TDM and just finished playing the Tears of St Lucia. I really enjoyed it. There are some differences from Thief missions, mainly the way lockpicking works and picking up bodies. I didn't run into any combat since I relied on stealth, although I used the bow on the last guard after taking care of the statue. I had a very tough time knocking out the guard in the room with the statue. He seemed invincible but I finally got him. I'm planning on playing Requiem next.

I did play a bit of Business As Usual. What a great looking mission! Such clean beautiful graphics.

I skipped the stock mission in TDM but did do the training missions to get used to the interface ... I'd recommend anyone to do this first, next up I downloaded "A Night to Remember" and loved it, been off the PC for a while but will download a few more missions as recommended here.

I started this yesterday and am having a great time with it. I intended to just check it out and ended up playing for over 3 hours. It is different from the first two games but still good...better than the third game. It is quite linear but there are still different ways to get inside buildings.I got to Stonemarket and talked to Basso and got a side mission. Off to complete that. I am playing on Thief difficulty, which is normal.

I got mine on Steam for $15 many months ago. It is $30 now but wait for the Thanksgiving sale and it may be available for less than $15.

Cool Trailer. It said the game will be in stores (GameStop, WalMart and others) February 25th.
