You wanted it so you got it
13 is the number, the object being to recommend to other boomers non-adventure games that you believe worthy of playing in this day and age. They may be your all time favourites, but they need not be. There might be a game you love dearly but for whatever reason you couldn't recommend it to someone to play today.
We then compile a final list as a resource for other players who want to know what to play next. I started the first such list for exactly that reason; I had no idea which games were good and which weren't.
You can't have a list without rules, even on the dark side, so here they are. I have been guided by last year.

1. You can recommend a maximum of 13 games, but you can recommend less.
2. You can't list a series, unless you use single votes for each game.
3. Expansion packs will be considered seperate games, on the basis that the original might be ordinary but an expansion pack superb.
4. Any game that is not pure adventure can be listed, irrespective of genre.
5. You don't have to indicate the type or genre, and you are not limited to any specific number of games in any genre. Go ahead and list 13 rpg's if you choose.
6. It is essentially a pc list, but given that many players have consoles as well, if you want to list games for the console go right ahead.

Please use full titles where possible. I am not familiar enough with some of these games to know which games are sequels/add ons etc. I might shout for help with some of them.
Regretably Friday this month is not the 13th, so lets keep the thread open 13 nights, and as usual there will be a numerical list and an alphebetical list. With the generous help of Schwab35, the list will also be categorised for genre, at least down to those with multiple recommendations.

Wow, you're right that if that lot doesn't convert you, nothing will. That's good mix from fast action (Sacred) to the slow but extremely real world feel of Morrowind. NWN just the original or with expansions?

My two cents would be to start with Divine Divinity then NeverWinter Nights. Then if you want to kick action into high gear, go for Sacred. If you want more depth and slower play, it's time for Morrowind.

argh, only 13! I've been Darksiding A LOT more these days and it's getting harder to narrow the list down. And I can't believe I'm actually recommending 2 games that are fairly hard and only have checkpoints to save at. I use to hate those kind of games. But if you can actually make it thru King Kong and POP Sands of Time it is some of the most satisfying fellings of accomplishment and exhileration ever.(and FUN TOO) In other words; What a rush!

A query.
The original release of Silent Hill 2 appears to be a slightly different version from Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams. The first is a playstation exclusive release, the latter for other platforms including pc.
They are pretty much the same game, but I am going to list it as Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams unless one of the persons who listed it says they specifically wanted the playstation original version.

I'm a Darkside newbie. I'm still playing Oblivion and oddly I'm not 100% sold (Its a huge beautiful game but not enough varity for my taste) so I'm going to wait to list it till I finish. I can't wait to play some of the others on everyones lists

Hi all,
Well the top 3 remain the same, with not a lot of change in the top 10 recommendations. Oblivion is the best performing new entrant and by next year it might well challenge for the top spot. Alice, Undying and the Sims 2 all jumped up, and fairy battles also got a bit of a rise, but Psychic battles disappeared altogether.
I have genre listed the top 20 plus ties based on Nickie’s categorisation last year (the genres will be finlaised later with the help of schwab35) and rpg’s certainly rule the roost – more reason I guess why I should play some

Thanks once again for making the effort to compile one of your enlightening lists

Interesting results, though not surprising, considering the audience here. RPGs are quite heavily favoured over action, probably due to most Boomers' preference for story and character development over twitch.

Kinda surprised that Deus Ex and Half-Life didn't fare better though. They both had involving stories and good adventuring/exploration possibilities. Two of the finest games ever created, IMO.
