I recently replayed the original Risen and posted here to say how much I enjoyed it all over again happydance

And now I'm playing Risen 2 and enjoying it just as much as the first !! thumbsup

[Both games offer the very simple combat format that I do so like : "Just unleash your weapon and click on the foe." No dreadfully complicated stuff to cope with at all grin]

For me they are two GREAT games dance

I'm going to have to take a look at the Risen games, Mad.

(And the combat style sounds good to me, too!). grin

It's great that you have enjoyed both games so much. dance

I have Risen II as well and plan to play it fairly soon. I liked Risen, though I kind of skipped the ending boss battle.

Oh, I often have to skip the end battles, hagatha. But I do sometimes win them. And it always shocks me no end when I do !! lol

Marian, I think you would enjoy the Risen games. And happily they stayed very close to the format of Risen for Risen II.

[Really nice not to have been plagued with huge "improvements" in the sequel. They so often turn out to be huge "disasters" instead eek]

Agreed.

And the other thing I loved about Risen was its similarity to Gothic. I love Gothic, but I think I'm all played out, so it was wonderful to find a spiritual successor. I still play Gothic 2, though.

I think I enjoyed Risen II more than the original. Possible because the final battle in Risen one which I also had to watch on youtube. Anyway I rather enjoyed having the companions with me in Risen II.

hagatha .... Do the Gothic games offer "difficulty" levels ??
[I always felt the series would be too difficult for me.]

Mad, I don't think there were difficulty settings. Gothic starts out difficult and gets easier as the game goes on. You just have to stay in the safer areas until you get stronger. You can go everywhere in the game, so it is possible to take out major enemies by climbing up on top of things. Your choice of skills is important, too. Once you've gone up a weapon tree or two and upped your stats, you're good to go. I always liked the magic/ranged combo in Gothic, with some sword skills thrown in for unavoidable close encounters. They're great games, I think.

Another tactic, especially early in the Gothic games is to let the enemies chase you and lead them to someone that can help you. There is a farm with workers that fills the bill. Also run away and thin the crowd down to just one or two and then attack. I remember leading a bunch of orcs through a tavern. They killed the patrons and jumped on the tables. Running is good till you get stronger. Start with Gothic 2. It's the best and one of my favorites.

I liked the Risen games too.

Thanks, both of you !! yes

I am still on the fence about the series though lol
[Starting out "difficult" seems very weird ....]

In one of the games I was able to take out an entire orc village with my bow by climbing a mountain and then firing down on them. That was before I was able to take on an orc face to face. Mad, it's only difficult in the beginning, not because of a setting, but because your character is puny until you've levelled up a bit. I find almost all games are like that, so nothing new.

Mad, I would recommend starting with Gothic 1 just for the game flow. Gothic does allow for running away, killing bosses from ledges with arrows, allowing others to die in your stead, and other cheesy tactics.. No need for bravery.

I think the "Split Soul" quest has somehow got "broken" in my Risen 2 game ....

I spoke to the Confused Ghost on the Isle of the Dead and also to his counterpart in the real world. But when I return to the Isle of the Dead to complete the quest, the Confused Ghost is nowhere to be found !! Even though his marker is showing on the map woozy

So I wondered if anyone else had this experience ??

[Got plenty of other quests active though so I'll just carry on with another and forget the Split Soul one altogether grin]

I found this online about the Split Soul quest:

Quote:
There's probably other ways to do this, but this is how I finished the quest.

Should be noted that I went the Inquisition route and had no access to my own voodoo spells.

After getting bones to shut up by giving him a potion (from one of the voodoo women), he tells you about how he's still only half dead, and that his other half probably still resides in the underworld.

He then tells you something about if you were to find this other half, then you should remind him about something to do with a white scarf(can't remember the exact lines). He also joins your crew at this point.

When you go to the underworld later on, "Bones" is standing in the built up area somewhere in the northern sector. After some conversation options the "white scarf" line pops up. He'll then vanish.

When you return to the ship, speak to bones and tell him you found his "dead" self, quest complete.

I found this discussion too:

Confused ghost

Hi Marian - And thank you smile

But I've already seen both those "articles" and already done the actions described in them - and unfortunately they don't help with my particular problem.

To complete the quest the "confused ghost" has to be on the Isle of the Dead and in my game he isn't, even though the map marker tells me he is woozy

And I've re-loaded from different previous saves a couple of times and taken different paths back to get back to the Isle of the Dead but the ghost is NEVER there rolleyes

I think I'll just have to concede that the quest can't be finished whistle

Cheers.

Right. I kind of figured you had already done all of that - I was just hoping that it might have been some little thing and that you wouldn't have to forfeit the quest. Oh well, at least it's not a game-stopping bug! wave

Finished the game and absolutely enjoyed it !! thumbsup

Will definitely be playing it again in the future and, like The Witcher, I'll be able to support the "other side" next time if I so choose bravo

Wow, that's great, Mad. I'm happy you enjoyed the game so much - this type of game is certainly very good for multiple play-throughs. thumbsup
