I started this game, and then went to Europe for three weeks. Now, I can't remember where I was or what I was doing! Has anyone recently played this game and could help me get restarted, or will I be better off beginning again from scratch?

I do not see any place on the Map where there is an action that I can complete, and I sure am finding that to be the case. The Captain of the ship won't talk to me. Various doors are still locked. I am at the point where I need the Noble's Patent to get past the guard, but can't get back into the Alchemy Shop to make the solvent to free the Patent from the frame it is in (the Alchemy Shop has partially collapsed and is "too dangerous" to enter). I have only nails, gunpowder and the ribbon (for the patent) in my possession.

Fingers crossed.

Have you checked the walkthrough here for something you may have missed?

Yes, I am playing the CE version and have the Strategy Guide built in, so I read all the way through it when I restarted the game and found I was stuck. It mentions things I cannot do (that I mentioned in my prior post), so that is where I'm blocked. I guess I'll have to restart the game as another Player. <sigh>

OK, so I restarted as a different Player and got back into the game. Played up to where I was stumped, and found it was when I needed to make another "Fragrance Potion," and had no clue that that was the case. Nothing in the Strategy Guide about it. No biggee. Starting over made sense, what with the month-long layoff between starting the game the first time. Now it is all fresh in my mind.

Glad to hear it. Probably better to start over anyway without that long gap between plays.

Actually, that is written in the general tips of the walkthrough. You will need to do that a few times through the game.

Yeah, I have been making potions since restarting. I had forgotten that when I went on vacay.
