Am trying to get to North Hill Clinic but despite getting and reading all faxes and talking with evryone about everything I think, I still cannot get the site to come up so that I can go visit. I have Tex Murphy office, Carl Linsky home and warehouse, the detective's office, Deloris home as sites to go to but no North Hill Clinic. I tried talking about it and its administrator every chance I got but still no results. What am I missing here? evil

Have you turned on the Vid-phone at Tex's office, and played the message from Sylvia, Lilac...

I am trying to turn on the Vid-phone but so far there is no message from Syvia. I must have missed something in order for her to leave me a message. Thought I had done everything up to this point. I am playing the easier level so am not sure whether the more difficult level has differing instructions. I know there are some thngs the WT I looked at says I should find and I just do not.

Lilac, there are four walkthroughs at The Spoiler Center -- you might want to compare them and see if there is something you missed...

Ah thanks Jenny - plenty of info to work with and from. Have copied all 4 WTs to check through for when I get stuck.

I am totally stuck in this game. Seem to have two main problems - first things are not where WTs say they should be. Never did find the mouse in the beginning of the game in the cabinet drawer nor the letter in the other cabinet from a Colonel that we are supposed to look at.

Similar experiences in Linsky warehouse - documents are supposedly in file cabinet but when I open the named drawers Tex says they are empty.

Have followed some WTs re conversational paths, have asked everything of everybody so unless this is one of the 'deadend' situations in conversational path games, then I remain stuck.

Also the booklet talks about the vidaphone and when opening it, names appear in the right hand upper corner of who to contact. I have yet to see any names there except the Database one. Cannot use the message button as no one has sent any messages. Some things I ask about are never faxed so I think I am jinxed in this game.

Have also tried to start both Entertainment and Gamer mode to see if it made much difference but seemingly not.

Maybe I need to do something to my PC because when I tried to play the DVD version - it would not give me any info needed to progress at all - installed OK and movement was OK but info just not there. Wondering if the regular disks version is not registering something re my PC?

I notice the version of the game I have is 1.0. Are there later versions perhaps that the WT I am following is addressing. I tried once again with a new game in Entertainment Mode and used Hart's WT following it "step by step" - even to the conversation paths. Again I did not find things were they were indicated some of which I know trigger the next place to visit. So giving up on the game unless someone has a new idea to try.

Desertlilac....Finding the mouse and the papers in the drawers is all in the "camera angle" haven't played Overseer in a while, but if you check your manual to see how to change the camera angle..that should help..I had the same problem when I played it! good luck! Glynn

The fact that you are having problems finding items in cabinets makes it sound like, as Glynn said, you may have not discovered all of the movement controls yet.

You should be able to change your distance from the floor (i.e. move up and down), AND change from looking horizontally to looking straight up or straight down. This allows you to literally crawl under, behind and around any object in the VR mode.

The controls make it possible to literally walk up to the open drawer of a filing cabinet, rise above it, and look straight down into the drawer. I remember that several inventory objects can only be found this way, since if you just click on the open drawer with something in it from a side angle, Tex won't reveal that the object is there.

I'm sure the manual outlines all of the control keys, but if you position the mouse along the bottom of the screen in the middle, a screen button pad should pop up with buttons that control all of these movements.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so very much Glynn and Fongo. Did not realize that this might be a game with such definitive movements in it. Will go back and retry again - hated to give up on this game as I was enjoying it very much. Was beginning to think it was my PC or me unable to make headway since the friend that sent me the game had no problems with it at all. Thanks again.

Oh yes! The camera angles are very important in this game! I am one of those people who jump right in and start a game..then have to go back and read directions.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> If you play an earlier Tex game "Under a Killing Moon" You will find that you need to know how to crawl under a desk and a few other things! I learned the hard way! laugh {this was also a very good game!} Have you played that one? I bet Fongo has! I hope you are able to continue with the game..it is great!! Glynn

Just finished off Under a Killing Moon a few weeks ago. I initially didn't think it had the same movement controls as Overseer, but I learned the hard way that it does!

Hit the wrong key and had not finished my posting but this game is going to be very interesting re movements in it. Have never played a game where the movements were so fluid and could be done so realistically. I felt like I had found gold when I saw that silly little mouse. So glad you all posted and set me straight. Re xP and TEX - never could get it to run on XP but fortunately I have Win98 toggled to my PC with the XP Os on it so what does not fly on one machine will fly on the other. Best of both worlds. So off to get Tex underway. Thanks again to you all.

Hope you all are still reading this thread - am having problems trying to use the Vidaphone. Not sure how to get the characters names listed in the upper right hand corner so that I can call them. The only name there so far is the Vidaphone Database title. Looked at the booklet with the game but it did not give the how to re using the phone except for opening it. They said the display would cover entire screen with the names listed as to who you can call but so far have never seen any names there. I must have to do something to get the names displayed but have not found what that something is. Can help?

Thank you so much Jenny! You are a real Jewel..I will check INFERNO..I had that on my Fav. list at one time, but I guess I lost it, (I'm good for loosing things} My Fav. list is a mile long so it's probably still there somewhere..Good going Desertlilac! I had a feeling that was the problem..It's been a long time since I played Overseer, so you must know how "stuckied" I was to still remember! LOL Glynn

Glynn, Inferno's XP site is here -- as I said, I don't know if she has any information about UAKM, we'll just have to wait and see.

Lilac, did you try calling the database to see if they had any information on people...

I pulled this from my walkthrough - maybe it will help with the vidphone:

"Tex's vidphone is located on his desk - click on it and hit the "turn on/off" symbol to start it up. If Tex has any messages waiting, his "Message" button will be flashing red. Access the American Information Database by clicking on the name in the top right panel, hit the dial button, and upon connection hit the "Ask About" dialogue path. A notepad with a selection of topic choices will be displayed. Click on the topic (in this case it's Tex Murphy), and hit "Done" when you are finished. To exit the database, hit "End Conversation", and then the Exit button. A fax will arrive a few seconds later, with an accompanying voice message - click on the fax to place it in inventory and examine it. Faxes are always disposed of immediately after reading."

For the record, I do all of my adventure gaming on a P200 with Windows 95 (this isn't by choice - I haven't bought a new computer since 1998).

Fongo, I have done all you suggested in your WT that you sent re your post. I have yet to get any flashing red button - the message button has never been red as long as I have been playing. And I do know how to use the 'ask about' end convers' also I usually get faxes on every item on the list when a list comes up. And I have yet to get any names in the upper right hand corner so that I could get any messages from them or talk to them as outlined in the booklet that came with the game.

Hopefully someone will read my posted dilemma and have the clue that I am missing to make the Vidaphone viable for me in this game. Otherwise I am stuck here trying to get to the North Hill clinic as I must get a message from Sylvia and of course there is no message to be gotten as yet.

If I was at home, I could load the game up and try it out, but I’m not.

It sounds like it isn’t a phone issue – I recall dimly that it was very evident that a message was waiting for you on the phone (the message button was flashing, or something like that). To answer your question from before, there isn’t any way for you to call anyone unless you have their direct number, so you can’t actually call up a list of people that you can call yourself.

So it sounds like you’ve missed a trigger for the Sylvia message somewhere. The fact that you made it to the warehouse makes me think that it may be something in the warehouse you missed. I know that puts you back to square one, but I would concentrate on the warehouse for the missing piece.

I’m not sure what walkthroughs you’ve tried, but here’s another:

Overseer

Run through the section “Best Little Warehouse Not in Texas”, and see if there’s anything in there that you may have missed. Other than that, I am stumped.

Thanks Fongo have copied your WT suggested - had not used this one. I briefly ran through the warehouse info and find I have done everything, found everything suggested. Only thing I did in error might be the clue - the pass card reader I attached to the PC as suggested in another WT. Your WT does not say to do this. Not sure whether this makes any difference or not. Will back track and see if I can undo that attachment and carry it with me since it can't be used on the PC as yet. Thanks again for your help and will keep you posted if I make any headway re the Vidaphone problem I am having.

Tried another new WT from a site I found on the internet re TEX and followed it religiously in the warehouse collecting everything and do it just as the WT said. But again - no message on the Vidaphone. Can't imagine what must be done to correct this. I also keep hearing a strange phone like sound I guess or maybe it is a fax sound. Am not sure what it is or means - have tried rushing to Tex's office when I hear it, but by the time I get there it has stopped. I always check the vidaphone anyway but never any luck re messages. So at this point I am stuck and will have to give up/try every once in awhile to see if I can make any headway. Meanwhile maybe someone will post a solution to the problem.

I know exactly how you feel Glynn. I too have WinXP but fortunately I still have my WN98 and Tex is playing there. I checked the Inferno site and she does not seem to have tested the Tex Murphy series as to how to get it to play on WinXP. Maybe we should nudge her and see if she will tackle it in the future. I understand there is a series of Tex games - this is my first experience at them but do enjoy it - more so since I learned about the definitive movements to discover things. If I remember right I think on occasion the character said a drawer was empty when it was not - you just had to position yourself to retrieve the object. That threw me off. But ever so often will tackle Tex again to see if I can get those names in the database. Thanks so much for following this thread and keeping my morale up:)
