I can't find the roughly bird shapped one. I've tried walthroughs but they don't help. Following them just puts me in a totally dark place. Moving the site around that dark place doesn't accomplish anything. No green light.

Let's go to the gate as point of reference.
When you face the gate and then turn RIGHT and go to the corner of the wall - you should have seen the wolf gargoyle.
Now turn right to the path that is beside the wall. Walk down this path with the wall to be on your left.
Go to the very end of this path and you should see a crypt on your right. It is dark here so move your cursor to the top of the crypt until you get an active cursor. That is the gargoyle. luck

I got that one. The one I can't get is third one in the book.

The wolf gargoyle is the one at the corner.
The birdlike gargolye is the one I described above that is at the end of the path.

Now for the horned gargolye:
Face the gate again. This time turn LEFT to go to the other side of the cemetery.
Go forward to the end of the path and turn left again. This time you will have the wall on your right and the cenetery on your left.
As soon as you made that corner, the big mausoleum on your left has the horned gargoyle.
Face it and see the gargolye on top of the mausoleum.

The directions you gave first leads to the horned one. It and the wolf are already marked off in the book.

With the wall to my right there is nothing to my left but a street lamp. If I move foward one more click there is nothing but darkness. I never see the mausoleum never mind a gargolye.

Guybrush,
Did you start at the metal gates at the far end of the cemetery? I believe there are some horse statues on a crypt nearby.

Yes. A large part of the problem is this game is too dark. I didn't see the other two I zapped. I just move the crosshairs around until I got that humming noice and the green light. But that isn't working with the last gargoyle. Most of cemetary is just black on my screen.

I got it. I had to make screen captures. Then use a graphics program to lighten them. I did that until I capture the screen that showed the gargoyle. Then I was able to find it.

The screen wasn't that dark when I played it. I could see each face clearly. Is there any way you can make your monitor brighter? There are a few more dark areas that may give you problems later on.

I wish there was. I'm in the jail area. I managed to stumble into a cell and dig up some stuff but I can't see to make my way out of the jail area.

GT, there are several things you need from this area--when you collect them all, place some items on the proper place on the floor in front of the big door.

If you want more specific hints, just yell... luck

I had that same problem with the darkness. I couldn't see the virtual hand before the virtual eye all through that game..........and especially that part. Wish I had thought to do what you did. I could have, just didn't think of it. laugh

Do you not have any Monitor Adjustments on the front of the monitor??

I didn't do it......and if I did I'm not guilty!

Just seems strange you can't adjust the monitor to where you can see better. Guess there's nothing else you can do.

With help of walkthrough I managed to finish the game. Lots of games are dark on my screen, but this was the worst.

GT, I hate to say it, but it may be time for a new monitor. Back when I was playing Riven my screen was so dark that in one place someone actually had to tell me to click one inch from the bottom right and one-half inch up!!!

A little while later I got another monitor and wonder of wonders, Riven was as clear as a bell...

Just might be that you're due for a new monitor. It's possible the brightness and/or contrast controls can no longer do their job. I was using a 17" monitor and bought a new 19" and darkness is no longer a problem.

I keep thinking I'll go back and replay the Dracula games now that I can "see" again but I have a hard time getting myself to replay games. I seem to remember too much to make it worthwhile. Anyway, glad you got through it. I know the feeling 'cause I did it in darknes, too. laugh

Actually its long past time I get a whole new computer. Celeron with 56 meg RAM doesn't run the latest games.

Well, I'm glad you managed to complete it despite the darkness, Guybrush. I just completed it myself a week or so ago and enjoyed it despite the timed sequences.

Lady K. and GT, have either one of you played Dracula: Resurrection? If not, be sure to get it, another very good game....

Yes, Jenny, I played Resurrection before The Last Sanctuary and am glad I did because the second flows so nicely from the first.

Good, Lady K.--I just thought I'd mention it because we've had several people stumble onto Last Sanctuary and they had never heard of Resurrection.

Of course I think it's better to play them in order, especially since the beginning of LS is sort of a spoiler for R...

I have also had problems with monitor brightness.... and the solve was to get an actual video card instead of using integrated video. They usually have independent brightness controls within the installation software and can make the monitor as bright as the sun....
