I've been researching Russian folklore and am intrigued by how many games incorporate the folklore images into the stories and hidden object scenes. Of course, it seems a good many of the creative minds behind these games have Eastern European names. So, not surprising.

Many of the casual game developers are from Russia so it does seem fitting that they use what they know. It's always better than having a developer try and make a game about a culture they do not know about and it ends up being very stereotypical of that country.

Have fun researching!

I got started on the research when I came across a Russian children's cartoon titled "Masha and the Bear", which is loosely based on a Russian folktale. The animation in this series is quite excellent. And even though I don't understand the Russian language, I find the cartoons delightful.

I've read that one of the reasons Russians are still developing PC games is because they're behind other countries in the technology associated with newer platforms. Know anything about that, Ana?

Actually, one of the leading Russian developers is Alawar and they are on all platforms. There are many Russian developers creating FaceBook games, iOs and android games so I don't think they are behind in development. Most of the games that take off on the PC are then ported to other devices. I don't think they are behind in technology.

It's amazing the number of Eastern European and Russian game developers there are now; without them, we wouldn't have all that many Collector's Editions as well as standard games. Kudos to them. wave
