Maybe that's just what happens; you start out wanting to change the world through language, and end up thinking it's enough to tell a few jokes.
David Nicholls, One Day, 2010
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A man goes into a cafe and sits down. A waitress comes to take his order, and he asks her, "What's the special of the day?"
"Chili," she says, "but the gentleman next to you got the last bowl."
The man says he'll just have coffee, and the waitress goes to fetch it. As he waited, he noticed the man next to him was eating a full lunch and the bowl of chili remained uneaten.
"Are you going to eat your chili?" he asked.
"No, help yourself," replied his neighbor.
The man picked up a spoon and eagerly began devouring the chili. When he got halfway through the bowl, he noticed the body of a dead mouse in the bottom of the bowl. Sickened, he puked the chili he had just eaten back into the bowl.
The man sitting next to him says, "Yeah, that's as far as I got, too."
At school, Little Johnny was told by a classmate that most adults are
hiding at least one dark secret, and that this makes it very easy to
blackmail them by saying, "I know the whole truth."
Little Johnny decides to go home and try it out. He goes home, and as
he is greeted by his mother. He says, "I know the whole truth." His
mother quickly hands him $20 and says, "Just don't tell your father."
Quite pleased, the boy waits for his father to get home from work, and
greets him with, "I know the whole truth." The father promptly hands
him $40 and says, "Please don't say a word to your mother."
Very pleased, the boy is on his way to school the next day when he sees
the mailman at his front door. The boy greets him by saying, "I know the
whole truth." The mailman immediately drops the mail, opens his arms, and
says, "Then come give your daddy a great big hug!".
A husband and wife decided they needed to use "code" to indicate that they wanted to have sex without letting their children in on it. They decided on the word Typewriter. One day the husband told his five year old daughter, "Go tell your mommy that daddy needs to type a letter". The child told her mother what her dad said, and her mom responded, "Tell your daddy that he can't type a letter right now cause there is a red ribbon in the typewriter." The child went back to tell her father what mommy said. A few days later the mom told the daughter, "Tell daddy that he can type that letter now." The child told her father, returned to her mother and announced, "Daddy said never mind with the typewriter, he already wrote the letter by hand."
A mother and her young son returned from the grocery store and began putting away the groceries.
The boy opened the box of animal crackers and spread them all over the table.
"What are you doing," his mother asked?
"The box says you can't eat them if the seal is broken," the boy explained. "I'm looking for the seal."
On the last day of kindergarten, the children brought presents for their teacher.
The florist's son gave her a box. She shook it, held it up, and said, "I bet I know what it is. Is it flowers?"
"That's right!" said the boy.
Then the candy store owner's son gave her his package. She shook it, held it up, and said, "I bet I know what it is. Is it a box of candy?"
"That's right!" said the boy.
Next the liquor store owner's son handed her his box. She shook it, held it up, and noticed that it was leaking. She touched a drop with her finger and tasted it. "I bet I know what it is. Is it wine?"
"No," said the boy.
She touched another drop to her tongue. "Is it Champagne?"
"No," said the boy.
"I give up. What is it?"
The boy grinned. "A puppy!"
One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of the Three Little Pigs to her class. She came to the part of the story where the first pig was trying to accumulate the building materials for his home. She read, "...And so the pig went up to the man with the wheelbarrow full of straw and said, 'Pardon me sir, but may I have some of that straw to build my house?'"
The teacher paused then asked the class, "And what do you think that man said?"
One little boy raised his hand and said, "I know"..he said 'Holy Ham hocks! A talking pig!'"
As a crowded airliner is about to take off, the peace is shattered by a 5-year-old boy who picks that moment to throw a wild temper tantrum. No matter what his frustrated, embarrassed mother does to try to calm him down, the boy continues to scream furiously and kick the seats around him.
Suddenly, from the rear of the plane, an elderly man in the uniform of an Air Force General is seen slowly walking forward up the aisle. Stopping the flustered mother with an upraised hand, the white-haired, courtly, soft-spoken General leans down and, motioning toward his chest, whispers something into the boy's ear.
Instantly, the boy calms down, gently takes his mother's hand, and quietly fastens his seat belt. All the other passengers burst into spontaneous applause.
As the General slowly makes his way back to his seat, one of the cabin attendants touches his sleeve.
"Excuse me, General," she asks quietly, "but could I ask you what magic words you used on that little boy?"
The old man smiles serenely and gently confides, "I showed him my pilot's wings, service stars, and battle ribbons, and explained that they entitle me to throw one passenger out the plane door on any flight I choose."
Super Saturday ya'll puppy
Are we working hard or hardly working?
I popped up and spent the first hour in the kitchen. While I was making waffles the boys came up. I asked them if they wanted a waffle and they said "No thank you." Finished feeding myself, hubby and the dogs. Made it downstairs with Keoki and coffee and had not yet made it to the computer when the boys asked if they could have cereal.
So not! When I go back upstairs I'll get them cereal. lol Mr. Perrin has strep throat. Apparently he got a shot in the tush before coming over yesterday. He's been limping around and hopping on one leg etc. It's been a hoot. His dad explained to him that as long as he was hopping, it was going to hurt. I told him to walk normally. Nada.
So this morning when he resumed the "I can't put weight on my leg because I had a shot yesterday" routine, I told him to go to bed. Than anyone who was in so much pain from one little shot needed to spend the day in bed and I'd see him tomorrow. It's a miracle.....walking and running like normal now. Kids rolleyes
Keoki made it through the night without pain meds happydance He positioned himself all along one side of me and we both slept. I woke up once when he moved to find I had a death grip on the leash (so he can't jump off the bed, and is also tied to the headboard). He has started worrying the skin just above the enormous bandage, so will keep an eagle eye on him today. I think he did it while I slept.
I can't seem to wake up. If this cup of coffee doesn't do it, I'm going to take Keoki and go back to bed. wave
Thanks all for the Jupiter well wishes! I'm afraid it's going to be a quick post today, as Thorsgoats and I are leaving to have lunch with my mom. And I have a very long work week coming up which is good, as I need the money after Jupiter's bills, but it will be tiring. woozy
As for now, I'm off. Hope everyone has a terrific Saturday. fall
Nan, yes, a very good thing.....means he is healing better. It was laser surgery (which should mean less pain). He still has a long way to go but each tiny improvement is a cause of happydance around here.
Venus, I feel your pain. We've spent the vacation and Christmas money on Keoki's knee so far...next goes the retirement fund. lol puppy I'm sending everyone a pic of Keoki up and moving on his own for Christmas this year. rotfl
Hey everybody. wave
We had some good rain here this morning and I think we're fixing to lose internet again. bravo
I hope it rains all day. Don't believe it will though. We've had less than a half inch so far. smirk
I went out for an hour and walked Baby and scratched around. It drained me real quick because of the humidity.
I'm waiting for a pizza to cook now. happydance
I hope you all have a super day. rah
Took the dogs for a nice 3 mile hike and swim and just finished lunch. Getting ready to put my running gear on and do my 5k.
Joe, sorry no luck on finding any heads. I hope you get your rain so you can get lucky again.
L4L, glad to hear Keoki is doing better. puppy
Venus, glad Jupiter is doing well. Enjoy your time out!
Nan, have fun with Abbi. It's 80 degrees here. Wind gusts are at 25 already with 35 expected so my run it is. I have put it off for a few weeks already so I need to cross it off my to-do's. lol
See you later.
venus have a lovely time with your mom and enjoy lunch! Hope that long week has some fun in it too!! Glad Jupiter is on the mend!!
L4l I hear ya on how expensive it is today to own a pet. I spent all my savings once on one of my dogs and she still passed. But life goes on and the world just keeps on turning. lol I like your Christmas idea. lol
Ana good luck on your 5K!!! Kind of late in the day though. I would think one would get up and get it over with so they can just move on with the day. duh Especially if it is that warm. We are sitting at 56 and right now there is a little break in the rain!
Me and Abbi had lots of fun and I got a lot done too. We spent the afternoon watching the Smurfs!! lol Love that cartoon and now I see Abbi does too.
Joe glad you got a little rain anyway. I'll see if I can send you a little of ours too. lol Enjoy the pizza!! That does sound good.
Night Haroula sleep well!!
I finally have a NEW water heater. Called my roofer neighbor 2 weeks ago, left a message, and never heard back. Called him on his cell last Monday and he said 'sometime this week'. It's a favor for me. He's so busy doing BIG projects in expensive parts of town but he takes time to do little things for the neighbors. Love him for that.
So I was at neighbor Kathy's house (not knowing when he might call) and he walks by her house. Ha. I chased after him and said, "I'm not home". He laughed.
He brought a worker and in 5 minutes we were off to Home Depot where I got to happily charge up my Am Ex card with the new water heater and all the stuff to go with it.
The guy who was doing the job spoke limited English so we did our best to communicate. He looked for 'stuff' and although I said to write it all down (so did the roofer/boss) but the guy just went around 'estimating' what he needed and said something about coming back if he needed more stuff. Ugh.
So indeed, halfway through the job, he needed more stuff. rotfl At this point, I had to leave him and my friendly roofer in my house and go back to Home Depot to get the 'stuff'. I wrote it down. Only 3 little copper connectors. I looked at the stuff he pointed to on the existing pipes and then when I got to the store, bought everything in sight 'just in case'. I KNOW there is always something wrong with what they want so I plan ahead.
As I left (since they were in my house and it was wide open to everything) I quipped, "And be sure you stay out of my underwear drawer!" Roofer guy made a joke and it was very fun. Now I wonder if he DID go in the drawer. think
Sure enough, when i came back he looked at the stuff he ASKED for and said it wasn't right. Ha. So I pull the 'right' stuff(which he didn't ask for) out of my magic plastic bag and all is good. See, I KNOW the routine.
THEN they couldn't get the shut off valve off the old pipes (we were reusing a lot of stuff) and I almost had to make a 3rd trip! I pulled out the WD-40 and off it came. Sigh. I know how to do that, why don't they?
Then, for some reason, they moved the water heater forward about 10 inches from where it was, the vent pipe didn't line up. I thought quickly, and pulled out of my shed's hoard of extra parts, a dryer vent pipe which is metal, and bends to any angle. It was quickly dismissed as not needed, BUT 10 minutes later, they wanted it. Worked perfectly!
Anyway, 7 hours later and a slew of mexican fast food (I was sent out to get it) All was done and they left. So I got a semi-free lunch.
All was great until I did a load of wash, heard a strange hissing sound and saw a pinhole spray of water coming from one of the soldered copper joints. No biggie but I had to turn off the water in to the heater and tape it up temporarily.
Called roofer, he will fix it 'when he gets around to it'. I love the way he works. I don't mind the inconvenience because he left his crew on a BIG job to come over today to do my water heater. I'll just have to turn on the valve when I shower tonight and put towels down to catch the water dripping and then turn it off again.
Rinse repeat until he gets around to me. Easy fix. Heat the joint and put a dab of solder. Hope he finds time soooooon. I'm just thrilled I have a new water heater that I won't have to worry about ever again. woot
Sorta, glad you got a new heater. I hope all the connections are good so you don't have a carbon monoxide leak. I worry about you!
Sweet dreams SpaceQ.
Ana for now I'm staying with the Blisses. We talked it out. He felt very bad that he blew up at me. I also talked to Barbara about his temper. He's a control freak and I understand that, as long as he'll listen to me.
Night all. I have an early shift in the morning. Sleep well. Question: Have anyone watched the movie "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"? I just loved that movie. I highly recommend it. You can rent it from Redbox.
Night SQFan. See you tomorrow. kissy
