Hello Boomers... I am not a reviewer by any means, but I am a player of Adventure games... This game called Tale of a Hero is a "Special Game" I have played many games, but this one has got to me Big Time... The graphics are "Superb" The puzzles are inventory based, but don't let that fool ya....They are not easy to solve....I had to look at the WT several times..Its a long game that's for sure...I had no glitches playing in XPS...There are several save slots... You can double click into another area...There is also a map in each chapter where you can jump to other areas.. Now ...This game is spell binding...When I got to the underwater chapter...I did not want to leave...I wanted to sit for hours, and just listen to the sounds of the deep...<Beautiful> The story reminds me of..Atlantis...Also if you ever seen the movie the "Kraken" You will know what I mean.. Just a remarkable game....I did not want it to end... Tol...I do hope you make more Adventure games...You are very talented..

"Tol...I do hope you make more Adventure games..."
So do I! Tale of a Hero is the stuff of fairytales but it's like no fairytale you've ever read. You think you know what an Oracle is, what a princess will do when she's rescued from the clutches of an Ice Giant, what's right and what's wrong? Think again.
When you believe your quest is over, it isn't. What seemed to be black and white isn't black and white at all. And then there's our somewhat contradictory hero, following in the footsteps of his father, the dragon slayer.
Olaf wants to have adventures but he's not really keen on harming anyone. He's self-confident, thoughtful and clever but more than one character in the game tells him he's an airhead. What he actually is, is human.
He doesn't carry anything around in his pants that won't fit in there anyway!
He grumbles when he's in a hurry and ends up on some trivial side quest of the "do this for me before I do that for you" variety. Well, the side quests always work to his advantage but who wouldn't be irked? Most game heros, that's who. They take it in stride, but not Olaf. <g>
He says things you'd say, too, if you ran into someone like the Oracle ("But you're a...um....") or investigated a scuttle and found dung in place of coal. And his reaction to a slider puzzle was priceless.
Inventory puzzles out the wazoo! Not always that easy, either. A maze that was simplicity itself...once you figured out how to get through it. Enjoyable characters, an especially lovely section under the sea, an amusing end to an unsuspected villain, and...36 (count 'em) spaces for saves! Not to mention that the game loaded and closed quickly.
I've forgotten tons of things, I know, but I'm with Darleen. I hope Tol is able to bring his talent back to adventure games someday. I really enjoyed his cockeyed way of looking at things.
<g>
Gil.
Oops! Make that 48 spaces for saves!

Hi Darleen03 I have to agree with you that Tale of a Hero is a really good adventure and I join with others who are hoping that more such high calibre games will be offered to us by this studio - with English patches, of course !! Having had to jump through many hoops and wait many weeks to obtain the game, the pleasure of playing it is more than making up for those frustrations Cheers. Mad

Mad, Have you read Ascovel's review of the game and his follow-up interview with tol where tol says: "When you have a team with only one member full-time on the project (him)and the others are working on it only in their spare time after school or work, you have to carefully think ahead how to keep project manageable." It makes their achievement with Tale of a Hero even more impressive, IMO. Gil.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. Tol appreciate these as well as I do. Unfortunately Tale of a Hero wasn't that loved over at Adventure Gamers. It's nice and encouraging to read the very opposite here.

metamorphium .. I was just over there...Every one that read that review is up in arms...The gamers are posting good things about the game as well as I have...
That review was not fair at all, but I guess the reviewer is entitled to their review...But, Readers are sticking up for the game..

metamorphium,
That guy wrote such a bad review that I wondered if his dog had died and his mother-in-law had moved in with him for him to be so jaundiced and so completely oblivious to the humor in Tale of a Hero.
Ascovel's response was perfect. Tale of a Hero is really good and a lot of fun to play. It's just a shame that some people will read that review and miss playing it because they thought the reviewer was being objective.
Believe me, you guys are very talented and I'd love another adventure game from you if you ever make one.
Gil.
