Shivers II - 02/04/03 09:44 PM

I'm stuck again...I can't get the safe to open in the S & L bank. I got the decoder, looked at the page and direction it should go, on the safe itself, and I get 3 numbers and 3 letters, I think meaning left or right. I punch in every imaginable combination, and can't get the thing to open. I can't even use the "Solve this puzzle" button for the puzzle. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. This is my last thing to do, I have all 12 baho's put in place. <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />

Sorry I can't help. I am getting to load this game on Saturday.
Can you tell me if the game is full screen?
I am using XP and I tried to play it earlier and the game was a picture in the middle of my monitor [7x7?]
Thanks,
Katie

Hi MyGreenEyes,

Would you please just continue the thread you started on this game. It helps us follow what you've done and not go hunting for previous posts from you. It will also tell other posters not to answer that thread anymore since you've moved on in the game.

As for the big safe, the small safe has to be opened first before the big safe can be opened.

Here's Jeanne's hints about this \'to open safe in bank\' .

Katie, let me check the manual on the game. Be back.

Katie,

Try changing your setting to 640x480 as the requirement states. I'm not sure if the game automatically does it for you. But since this is an older game it might not. It's been a while since I played the game.

MaG-Sorry about that, I will know next time to just continue on. Thanks for the help. I will try this and see what happens.

Katie, to get the 640x480 resolution in XP you have to go to the compatability page to set it there.

MyGreenEyes, this is a tough puzzle. If you left the vault for a break, the numbers reset themselves to something else. Keep checking them against the decoder book.

My Green Eyes, here are some of the 'gotchas' for that S&L vault:

As Rowan said, the code on the vault changes each time you enter the S&L.

The number is the page to use; the letter is the direction to turn the notch in one edge of the decoder. Don't use the zebra to indicate direction; it's only there to click on to turn it.

When you read the combination through the holes in the decoder, read each line left to right starting at the top line and progressing down the page. You should have 3 letter/number pairs where the direction reverses for each successive number.

At the vault, turn the dial to each number in order and in the direction indicated. There are no extra turns required here; stop on each number the first time you come to it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help! I was not reading the numbers L to R, Top to Bottom. I knew how to use the decoder, and I knew that the numbers reset themselves each time I came back, but I didn't know how to read the numbers in the book. That was the trick. Now I'm onto the final scenes.
Thanks again everyone!

I'm playing this game to (on XP), and in Full Screen mode as well, thanks to a point in the right direction by Magtro (from this thread) and a huge shove by Katie!!!thanks, ladies. I'm really enjoying this very underated game. I didn't like it at first, but I think an important point to note is that if you read the manual in it's entirety (sp?) and read all the notes, journals, books and listen to the phone messages, video clips and so on ...you get an awful lot of plot exposition. It gave me more of an understanding about the story itsself.
P.S I wouldn't even touch this game without a walkthrough. I found two really good ones:
Walkthrough by Eileen Carather

and

Walkthrough by "Lady Nightshade"
but her site seems to be underconstruction ...the last time I checked.

Hi Inferno,

Thanks for those valid points. I have the habit of reading the manual before I even install a game. I know that some gamers don't. The range of effort made by different publishers differ. Some are really funny and some are not instructive at all. The background story are usually what I look for to get me in the mood to play the game.

Good gaming!
