I recently bought from the Adventure Shop, the games DARKNESS WITHIN 1 and 2 but I am unable to launch number 1. When I try to launch it, I am presented with a black screen. I needed a forced shut off to regain control of my PC. I did make sure, before trying to launch the game, that I was to play it on the compatibility mode recommended and also with the administrative rights.
I did report the problem to the ADVENTURE SHOP support team and the robotic answer I have receive from them was to make sure that my graphic card and Direct X were updated (stange recommendation: They should have known that If I did succeed to launch Darkness Within 2, we have to assume that all my drivers are updated)
Anyway, they continue by telling me politely that, as long as I did succeed to download the games and install it, it was no more of there problems. I have been invited to contact the publisher support team.
I don't know if any of you have ever tryed to contact the support team of Lightouse-Interactive, but in my case, the support has always been limited to an automated answer (in Polish I think) with absolutely no follow up.
Anyway, to go back to my problem, is there anybody with a suggestion to help me launching that game?

Lighthouse Interactive closed down a few years ago. The automated reply you're getting is likely informing you of that. frown

Make sure your video card meets the requirements of the game. This game has much higher requirements for the video card than the first Darkness Within game. It needs a video card with 256MB of discrete video memory which is equal to or better than an ATI Radeon X1600 or Geforce 7 series with Pixel/Vertex Shader 3.0 support.

If you don't know what video card you have, click the Start button in the lower left of your screen, type
dxdiag
in the box, and the Enter key on your keyboard.
When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool appears, select the Display tab. The name of the card will be listed on the left where it says Name:

My video card is an ATI Radeon HD 5450.
The problem is probably not there.
Out of 13 games I did buy from the Adventure Store so far, it is the first time i have been facing such a problem.

By the way, would you agree with me that if Lighthouse- Interactive has been out of business for that long, the support team at Adventure Shop who did refer me there,demontrate definitively a lack of respect for their customers.

I'm sorry I misread your post. I thought you were talking about Darkness Within 2.

However both games were developed by Zoetrope Interactive, which is still in business as far as I know. They have a contact page here

Zoetrope has a technical support page for Darkness Within ***here***.

One of the things they say is that in Vista (and therefore Windows 7), the game executable requires elevation (running with Administrator privileges). Have you tried to start the game by right-clicking the game exe and choosing to run as Administrator?

You could also contact Iceberg Interactive, which is the current publisher of Darkness Within.
(At least they list it on ***their website***)

Yes,: I did select the compatibility mode recommended for the game and also made sure to run it with the administrative right, without any success.
I also did uninstall,redownload and tryed to reinstall the game a second time(and third time in fact) without beeing even able to reach the point where I am asked to register the game and put the KEY number that came with the game.
Anyway, I will check on all of those web site you did suggest me to look at and will come back to you to keep you informed.

Have you tried installing the 1.02 patch? I'm not sure if your game already has it applied, but it's worth a shot.

Needless to say that I remain very unhappy about the support I have receive from the seller ADVENTURE SHOP.

I stronly beleive that they should have known.
