Usually you can hold in the computer's power button several seconds until it shuts off.
You don't usually have to yank the power cord, even if Ctrl-Alt-Delete isn't working.

Indeed... NEVER yank or pull the power cord. Like Ana said, hold down on the power button until it shuts off. That's called a hard shut-down and also isn't the best idea, but sometimes you have no choice.
