Good morning, all.
We actually had some sun yesterday so I did some outdoor chores; notably cleaning mink AND raccoon droppings from our deck. The animals tend to use the deck as a path to the water, and so they've started using it as a latrine, too. I'm getting some motion-sensor lights put in but in the meantime I've got some pretty foul-smelling deterrent pellets spread around out there. Then I did some general de-sliming of concrete so delivery people don't slip on the property, and cleaned out the driveway drains. I have a very sore shoulder this morning!
After that we all had a final fire down by the beach for burgers and hot dogs.

I had a back injection today. Probably NOT the kind of uplifting and interesting to hear about, right, oldbroad! I'd rather hear about Connie's fun than that too. But on the up side, I did crank out close to 2 miles of walking by parking as far away from the buildings as I could get at the Pain Clinic and the two stops I had to make on the way home.
Once again, weeds are my life!

Not much fun at this end, either. A trip to the hospital for John's blood test, and then home -- and then I collided with an exuberant Dude and now he's so scared of me he runs away in terror every time he sees me. I hope it doesn't stay that way, because he was really starting to trust us and even enjoy Willow's company.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I hope so. He's such a little 'fraidy cat. And we were all having so much fun.
Our heat pump has been installed. We're fortunate that one of the installers is also a neighbour, so the install went very smoothly. We'll be turning it on soon. I'll be interested to see how quiet it is -- our master bedroom is right above what was the furnace room, and the old furnace was so noisy I had to turn the heat way down at night to stop it from coming on. The fan for the heat pump, which is installed where the old furnace stood, should be much quieter. I'm told I won't hear it at all.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I've just been looking at the extent of the damages caused by our recent torrents of rain. Most of our highways are completely cut off by mudslides and flooding. And in some cases the highway is just...gone, and the ground underneath completely washed away. We weren't affected where we are, but my planned two-day visit to Victoria is off, since the Malahat portion of the highway from hereis now impossible to travel.
I have no idea how long it will take to repair all of this, since in some cases entire stretches of highway will have to be re-engineered, given that the ground they were built on is now utterly gone. I'm guessing that in some cases it will be years before those stretches of highway re-open.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
