For the last three days or so (never happened prior to this) when I open up Outlook a Google screen comes up. A square box in the middle of my screen.

Google
One Account. All of Google.

(my gmail address which I never use)
(a blue box that says "next" that can be clicked) and beneath that

Find my account.

Create account.

One Google account for everything Google.
(a bunch of colored Google symbols, such as the Google G, etc.)

I don't know why this has all of a sudden started popping up. I have to click two different times to get it to close. I'm sure it is official, not some scam thing. The only thing I can think of is that I do have that gmail account linked so I can see gmails through the "Microsoft Exchange" to Outlook if I want to and even though I do not use the gmail, I did look at the gmail inbox through Outlook recently. I only set the gmail up when I was trying to get my one cat picture from my cell phone to my computer last year and that was the only way I knew to do it.

It is EXTREMELY annoying and I don't know how to make it stop!

Thanks. That doesn't really apply to me as that article is more about connecting Gmail to Outlook and mine is already connected. I suppose I could try to disconnect it. I really don't need it there anyway.

But, of course, I can't figure out how to do that!

2nd Edit: Found it and deleted it!

Oldbroad my sister got an email last week that said Google was updating inactive accounts and if you didn't do something it would be deleting them by end of this year. Maybe that's why you got the message?

I thought there were instructions to remove Gmail in one of the links provided. But I didn't check for sure. At least you got it removed!

Thanks for your input Gerry, but I don't think that was the problem. I would also go so far as to say that, I hope what your sister received wasn't a scam email.

No instructions of that nature in the links Drac, but yes, removed and Outlook is good for the time being.

Google is making changes to their platform. One of which is eliminating email addresses that are not being used, so that's legit.

On the topic of having to re-enter your Google account information, that's usually due to either a network issue, Google server changes, or Outlook updates. I have several different Gmail accounts that are set up to land in Outlook. Randomly, 1 or 2 of them will throw loading errors that usually self-resolve within a day or shortly after a windows update.

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

Thanks for that information Trail_Mystic! All very good to know.

I get a LOT of scam type emails, that's why I mentioned hoping that wasn't a scam. As far as I know, I didn't receive an email like that but since I rarely look at my Gmail, maybe I did. I had looked at it several days back though and didn't see one regarding inactive accounts. I don't think mine would be considered inactive though at this time. I was going to try to wait it out for a "self-resolve" but it was just too darn annoying and was keeping my emails from loading properly.

I don't know if I ever signed up for Gmail...so I guess for me it won't matter. It is amazing how google can just delete an account you set up without notifying you. What would happen if you try an reinstate it with the same Gmail address I wonder?

Gerry, they DID notify everyone. This is only for accounts that haven't been used in a very long time.

I'm thinking it's a good thing to get rid of old, unused accounts and emails. Just last week I received an email from what used to be a real contact of mine but has not been used for several years by that contact. The email was apparently found somewhere and used to try to scam me. I knew the email seemed hokey and while I didn't respond directly to it, I did confirm receiving it in a separate return email, which I then regretted doing. The reply I got back told me absolutely that it was a scam and I deleted both emails immediately, but worry now about my own email.

I couldn't agree more, oldbroad! Is there any way to contact that individual and tell them to delete that account because it's been hacked?

I could call them but I think they would get confused by it all to be honest.
