Good Saturday morning! After a hot week, the storms went through yesterday and it is now very cool.

Unfortunately, there are at least 5 dead in the storms in St. Louis, less than an hour away. We pretty much had what we call a midwestern porch beer storm out here... some wind and it did hail for about 5 minutes. I've seen pictures of the tornado that struck St. Louis and it was huge. Unfortunately much of the highly populated area it hit was low income neighborhoods and it will be very difficult for them to recover.

We are getting some long-overdue upgrades to our DirecTV service today. Out here in the country we don't such luxuries as cable or fiber optic, so our options are limited. We only recently got internet that is good enough for streaming! Most of our equipment is very old - like 25 years old!

Glad to hear your elephants are behaving, Fogfighter!

Good morning everyone.

Draclvr, I've been reading about that storm. Terrifying.

It's been raining here on and off for two days and I'm starting to worry about my newly seeded lawn. Hopefully we'll get some sun in the next day or so.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

We had a dust storm here in the city. Not devastating like a tornado but a first ever event.

I hope you all are enjoying the weekend!

Good Morning everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready to start your day! wave

Draclvr I have similar issues with the internet and my landline phone service. I live in the country too and where I am located my street is literally at the end of the pole lines for power, phone and cable service. I've lived here for 56 years...phone service and internet is on the same original copper cable...no fiber optic here...for 3 years we have been promised it is coming. smirk

I have the worse internet...always buffering and dropping off. It can take a full minute or more to sign in to an account online and then to go from page to page even longer! Phone company tells me its because I am too far from the central office. I have been told they no longer maintain the copper cable so every time I have issues is the only time there is a check for faulty equipment...when it breaks down then it gets repaired. I have 2 files on all my problems. crazy

No cell towers close enough for good service either and because we have lots of trees it is not good for Direct TV.

Hard to believe in this day and age this happens. headscratch

Hope you all have a good day! wave

Good morning everyone!

Emergency use knäckebröd available in the break room. Doens't help against faulty copper lines, but the WADDB helps with the calming down.
Already on my second cup today. Sorry to read about the storm and the faulty copper lines. It's similarish here. The copperlines are planned to be replaced with 5G or whatever system is the current one. Works decently mostly but rural areas can be dicey. I feel your pain Gerry. I guess one culprit is the ever growing demands from newer browers and websites. Many of them are data and power hogs.

Happy Sunday GameBoomers!

Good morining Connie, Fogfighter, Gerry, OldBroad, Hagatha, Draclvr and all who follow. I think I heard yesterday that a grocery run is on my schedule for the day otherwise, I plan a day of rest...except for chores of course smile Gerry, that sounds incredibly frustrating. It's crazy you're stuck with such unreliable service, especially when basic internet access is so essential these days. Being far from the central office shouldn't mean you're left behind, and it's disappointing they only act when something completely breaks down. It sounds like there are no alternative providers, local co-ops or community broadband projects that offer better options in your rural area?

Take care everyone and have a wonderful Sunday wave

Good Sunday morning! Looking at a really nice sunny day ahead. Might try to tackle some weeds...

Gerry, you must have the ancient old DSL service over telephone lines. Our problem out here is trees too - I am in the middle of the woods. Luckily, we have a very old communications tower just 1/4 mile away and in local internet provider has equipment there, so I can get really good "real" internet - wireless broadband, not LTE which is internet service via the same wavelengths as cell phone service. I can get DirecTV because the dish is mounted up high on the house. Do you have a cell phone? If you can get cell service, most companies offer "hot spots" which can provide pretty good internet.

Good afternoon everyone.

Finally, some sun. We had so much rain I was beginning to worry that the grass seed would just rot instead of sprouting. Fingers crossed that it's still okay.

I plan to spend the afternoon sitting on my patio drinking chai and reading, presumably with at least one cat beside me.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Monday Morning everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready! wave

Draclvr no cell towers close enough and my cell service is not good... I am surrounded by state forest...lots of very tall trees and hilly terrain that blocks signals...in some parts of the house the signal is stronger, but never a full signal. frown

I've been learning how to navigate my new Garmin fitness watch. I've been walking a lot further than I thought! It shows I've been walking over 5 miles each day. I did not realize that! I need to cut back...that's a bit much for this old lady, especially with the warmer weather coming! zombie

Hope you all have a good start to your week today! wave

Good Monday morning! Strong storms just missed us last night. A little thunder was all we got and no more tornados! They are still searching the rubble in St. Louis for bodies or survivors, but I think everyone is accounted for.

We are in the middle of the woods here too, Gerry. The tower our cell service and internet is coming from is one of those old four-legged towers that clears even the tallest trees! But for the internet service you still can't have any trees blocking the broadcast. I literally NEVER have a full signal. If you have a cell signal at all, you might think about contacting your cell phone company to see if they offer internet for you. Most of them allow you to set up the little box and see if it works first.

Trip to town for groceries and plants today. Need to get my big outdoors pots planted - my little after school helper is coming here after the bus drops her off tomorrow.

Good Morning everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready! Enjoy! wave

I'm learning more and more about my Garmin fitness watch. My daughter set it up so she "shares" (monitors) my "walking stats" . She scolded me yesterday...my walks show my heart rate gets into the "red" zone (zone 5 during my walks). I have some very steep hills where I walk so she told me to slow down and check my watchfor my heart rate and I should be careful to stay in the "lower" zones at my age. rolleyes

I had no idea I was pushing my heart rate when walking until I got the watch! Technology today is amazing.

Hope you all enjoy a Happy Day! wave

Good morning, Danish, Donuts and Bagels in the Break Room. I'm leaving on Sat. for a week in West Virginia, we are visiting a friend. Robert wants to drive this time, we will stop once on the way up and back. That will still give us 5 full days there. I will definitely enjoy the cooler temps. Enjoy the day and hug someone. hug hearts

Good Tuesday morning! After another HUGE storm moved through last night it is very chilly, but sunny this morning. We had a tornado warning for right on top of us about 11:30, but it was rotation far above and it never dropped down. All we got was more rain - maybe a couple of inches. Just what we needed!

That is so cool your daughter can monitor your info on that watch! She is right though - at our ages, we need to keep that exercise moderated. Does it monitor your sleep too? I find that the most interesting thing on mine.

Connie, that sounds like a really fun road trip! Just hope all these big storms in the middle of the US are done by then!
