Good Saturday morning. We got just enough rain yesterday to settle the dust, but not enough water anything. Even had one big rumbling thunder! Haven't hear thunder in months!

Applesauce making was really fun with my friend. We did a bushel of an apple called Jonagold - it's a cross between a Jonathon and a Golden Delicious. I quartered one big pot full of apples, added some apple cider we got at the orchard at 9:30 and it was cooked down soft when Patti got there at 10. I set her up at the tomato press and we put that pot through. We reheated the applesauce and added cinnamon and bit of nutmeg until we liked it. Then we jarred it up and did the same to two more big pots. I have one big pressure canner that I can get 18 pints in, so we got that one going and another smaller canner with 9 pints. Those were done by about 12:45 and the rest was just waiting for the pressure to come down, so she was back home by 1:00. I did one last canner and we ended up with 36 pints to divide up! Man, is it ever good!

Hope your garlic does well, Fogfighter! I need to get mine worked up from this summer. I only have about half a pound of bulbs this year. We had a long, wet fall last year and it sprouted up in December. Then came the super cold weather at zero F in January and froze some of them.

Happy Saturday. My brother did my grocery shopping today. Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts were on sale in the value pack so now I have to re-package for my purposes. Boneless Chuck Roast was also on sale but he came home with Chuck Steak which is, of course, smaller - and more expensive. Ah, well. I'll have to figure out what I can do with it.

Nothing else going on here except the Cubs game. Not sure if I'll be able to watch any of it. Don't even know yet what time this game is or whether it will be televised. I saw some of the last two games which were televised on one of our Spanish stations.

Enjoy your day everyone!

A chuck steak is a very tasty cut of meat. But it is also kind of tough. I have cut one into cubes, seasoned and quickly seared to top some rice. You could also braise the cubes in some broth with onions and garlic for an hour or so. It makes a nice beef stroganoff if you like that over some noodles!

Actually I'm thinking of a Hungarian Goulash recipe I have that calls for Chuck Roast cut into 1" pieces and also includes instructions for homemade egg noodles and spaetzle. I made spaetzle once a long time ago and it is not too hard so I may try that again. However, the recipe calls for Sweet Hungarian Paprika and I have Half-Sharp Hungarian Paprika. What do you think?

That's an even better idea. Go for it with the Half-Sharp. When Guenter our German nephew makes it, he always uses that and I love it that way. Spaetzle is indeed easy and perfect for holding up the goulash. He always makes us a dish using spaetzle too.

Good morning everyone!

Mrs Sun is shining and the sky is blue.

A great day for very black WADDB without milk.

I keep my fingers crossed for your garlic Draclvr.
Fortunatly a failed harvest won't mean starving nowadays.
At least not for us hobby growers.

Happy Sunday GameBoomers!

Good Sunday morning. A quiet start to the day with a cup of WADDB. Cool this morning, but heading up to about 80 F, so a nice warm - DRY - day.

A friend is frying fish at Elmer's Tavern in town this afternoon, so we'll head in there for awhile. Yesterday I made a really good cole slaw to take. Slaw is always better the next day! Elmer's is a very old building dating back to about 1860. It's been a bank and a dry goods store, but most of its life it's been a small local bar. There are lots of pictures of it with men out front and even one with a man riding a donkey. The streets were still dirt. Cool place.

Happy Sunday everyone! I am hoping to make some fish later too, but not fried.

Last night I went through and disposed of a bunch of old holey socks in my drawer while I watched the Cubs end their season, in Spanish (which I don't know). There's a lot of other stuff in that drawer to go through but the socks were all I could handle in one sitting.

Have a good day all!

That's a job I also need to do, oldbroad. I have awful calluses on my heels and they wear holes in my socks all the time. I never wore shoes when I was a kid unless I absolutely had to and STILL didn't until I hit about 70 years old, so it's no wonder!

I did start tackling a closet upstairs though. You find some interesting things you forgot you stuffed some place!

Hello breakroom friends, you kindly wished me well for my recently completed radiotherapy, but now some supportive thoughts for my wife Linda would be much appreciated as she is scheduled for surgery tomorrow to repair quite a badly broken leg following a fall.
I hope that all goes better than this with all of you! catrub
