I was going to do this as a first look, but I really just want to talk about the imps.
I stumbled across this on Steam recently and remembered having played it (and its predeccesor Spud) eons ago. My recollection was that it was a bit 'out there' but also a bit of fun, so I thought I would give it a go.
What I hadn't remembered were the imps. About 10 minutes in, they came flooding back.
In short, you need to gather imps in order to solve various puzzles, but also to save the game. Every save requires sacrificing an imp through a rather convoluted bit of inventory management. The fact that you can die makes saving an imperative. Which means having a fairly constant supply of imps.
That you can perhaps work out where to regenerate imps just makes the whole thing more infuriating. I am not surprised that 'saving with imp' didn't catch on.
There are infuriating things in many games, but many fewer games are defined simply by their frustratingmess quotient. Gord@k is top of my list in that regard.
I am in three minds about whether to continue. You could argue that because I hadn't remembered the imps that is reason enough to continue, and I could take your point. That said, now that I have remembered, it is a bit like a horrible thing you suppressed but has now been let out evil
If you played it I would appreciate your thoughts as to whether or not I should press on.

I never played this game, but I do remember discussions here on GameBoomers about it. Some people liked the game and others did not (the latter largely because of the save system). I also have a vague recollection of someone having explained how to make the save system less onerous but now of course the details escape me. I do see them talking about this on the Steam forum.

I found this on the Steam forum for the game:

Well, seems I finally found how this works so I'll detail it for anyone who found themselves in the same situation:

When you use all of your imps, they seem to regenerate, but on a SPECIFIC spot, which is in the forest, in a screen between the house with the trapdoor and the evil tree with the axe. You can take up to two imps and when you use those two, well, you go back to take two more, and so on.

I still think this presumably limited imps system for puzzle solving and saving is hideous, but let's pretend it's a puzzle to be solved and continue enjoying the game.


Anyway, you have probably worked this out already. I do remember reading that there were some really humorous moments in the game, which is one reason why it piqued my interest.

I would press on, primarily because of the humorous aspect. But I realize that is easy for me to say. wink

This sounds like one of those game that could easily be replaced with something I would actually enjoy!

To have forgotten about the imps suggests other aspects stood out, but I am not yet convinced to press on.
