Try this: Grayrock Cave Most of the larger caves, while they appear convoluted are actually pretty straight forward. If you just keep pushing ahead in most cases there is either another exit or a short-cut back to the original at the end of the cave.

Thank you for coming to my rescue once more, Trail Mystic. I was on that site but somehow missed that page. I know where that exit is but can't get to it! I'm on the lower level and when the one time i managed to get up again, and was close to the out spot, I couldn't get to it and wound up falling down to the lower level again and lost once more! Maybe this page will help though. So far it has more info than any other I've found. Thanks again. I'll let you know how I do. Melanie

Usually the switches are quite obvious for doors. I think what you might need to do is slow down a bit. If you are falling through to the next level then you are running right into a big hole. Walk for a bit and look around and down when you get near that area, I can't recall off hand, but you may just need to veer one way or the other to make it past that hole. I know the maps can be a bit confusing, but you can also check the one in your journal. Usually the lighter areas on the map are a different level.

Hi Looney! Nice to see you. I am using the map but I can't get through the walls and the doors it shows are blocked by huge boulders. I don't see any openings on the map.

Hi Melanie! Well, one other thing that I do, is very silly! But it helps me...standing in a doorway, or a fork in the path, etc...I drop something from my inventory in the path so if I go that way again, I'll know I was there and which door/fork I took. Just remember to look down at these places to see if something is there. Doing that, I noticed alot of the time I was missing a doorway or something, since it all looks so much alike in those caves! I just dropped things that wouldn't kill me to lose if I suddenly found my way out and didn't get them back. Hey, I just thought of something else! I haven't tried to leave a personal marker inside a cave, will that work? You could leave a marker at a doorway so you can find you're way back there...hmm...

Hi Trail! Hey, I heard about the paint brushes, I haven't tried them yet tho. I heard about them as a way to get up sheer mountains...have you tried that? Did you ever try to leave the personal markers inside a cave Trail?

Thanks for the tips!!! Great idea Looney. The paintbrushes would be the answer for me!! I think i might have at least one. If I could jump on one of those I might be able to jump on the mountain and get to the exit. Yeah!!! Now to get a paintbrush if I don't have one.

My problem isn't so much that I'm lost. I know where I am. I just can't get there from here. The paintbrush didn't help either. I finally gave up and went to my secret hideaway to practice my alchemy for a while. It was getting too boring since I killed all the monsters already. lol. I don't mind getting lost either. It's fun to wander around. I'm just frustrated from trying to get to the exit when I know where it is and now can actually see it but can't get to it. grrr.

Yup, it's an easy game to get lost in. I've never heard that thing about the paint brushes, though...a shame they removed the levitation spell. In Morrowind, I just enchanted a ring with constant levitation whenever I wanted to travel somewhere without having to navigate through small unfindable paths.

Melanie 1 Yes I am still playing BUT I am kinda stuck too. I just joined the Dark Brotherhood (kinda late in the game) and my game freezes when I try to go back out the door of thier hideout, the one that talks to you with the hand on it.I had a quick save and an auto save and tried from both of those and still had the freezeing. Then I tried from a hard save before I entered the hideout but it still froze when I tried to leave. Then I had to go to bed. My next try will be from a save before I got anywhere near thier hideout...I'll have to replay a bit but it will be worth the try.
I did notice there was another way out through a hole in the wall and up a ladder to a well but it was locked with a key and so far I haven't figured out who has the key to steal from. I tried stealing keys from a couple of "Brothers and Sisters" but none worked and I got kicked out of the Guild so I restarted from my quick save.
If anyone knows about that key or can help me with the freezing I'd love to hear (Trail???). I'm sorta just trying everything I can think of to work around it.
I'll take a peek at your cave when I can, maybe tonight if work isn't as hecktic as it has been.

Melanie, here is another really well detailed help for the game. I don't know what section of the world you're in though, but perhaps it contains something helpful?

Nipomo have you deleted your old saves, like those you will never use again? This happened to me and deleting helped. It's surprising how the saves accumulate.

Thanks Yankee I DO have one save from every level so I'll try deleteing every other one and see if that helps. I am a true beliver of saves, in fact I am on hard save 467!! but I only save 1 per level after I level up. Never the less I have been playing for just of a year so I bet my saved file is huge. Good advice.

Thanks Nickie. I'll look it over and see if it helps. I'm in the Great Forest area. I just finished cleaning out one of the Daedric hideouts and decided to investigate the cave on my way to get the heir on the main quest and have been stuck here since. lol. I'm out now for the time being though but I'll go back later. Now I'm going to go find the heir and see what other trouble I can get into and let those monsters regenerate in the meantime. I'll let you know if it helps though. I'm sorry to hear about your crashing, Nipomo. I was going to suggest getting rid of some saves also. That's really the only thing I can think of unless you dl'd anything since this trouble started? Any new mods or anything else that could be causing the trouble? Melanie

Hi Melanie 1 It's not a mod. I don't use those as I share my computer and my poor computer games are first blamed when the computer acts up and yikes! if I downloaded mods, I'd never hear the end of it. Its not as bad as it sounds, I love my sweetie, but alas she does not love video games. I have recently taught her to love you tube though, I showed her how to find video's of all the old peruivan singers she grew up with so there is hope! Work has been terriable this last week and I just can't get to my game, maybe next week. I think its funny now that there is a thread on Oblivion I can participate in, I can't get any time to play. Rats! But I have high hopes for the future.

I'm glad I don't have to share this computer. My hubby doesn't know how to use the laptop. lol. He only plays freecell and that's the extent of his computer use and he uses my other computers so usually it's me having to fix his screwups on my computers and he has no complaints about me. I can't get him into anything else on them though. It always seems to hapen that way that when finally other people are playing what you are, you have no time! Don't worry though, I'll be at it for a long time.

Melanie, if you're still stuck in that cave, you might try what I do in those circumstances. I walk along every wall to make sure I haven't missed an exit. Sometimes it looks like I've cleared the map in a certain area but there's a small indent I've missed that turns out to be an opening.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hi Hagatha, I did that already. I'm sure there's a way out, I just couldn't find it. I left the cave through one of the cheats and maybe I'll return to it later and try again. I just ran out of patience with it. Thanks.

There was one goblin cave that I got stuck in during my first game. I never found the way back out; found a different exit, came out miles away, and couldn't find the Paint Horse after that. Turned out he'd been chased by a bear or something I must have triggered just before entering the cave, and was lying dead in the forest just off the road, a little ways down. I couldn't leave the poor thing dead, so I just reloaded and steered clear of that cave from that point on.
Maybe it was the same cave.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Oh no! The poor horse! I'm glad you went back and saved the horse. I just gave up on it and don't know if I'll go back. It was just too frustrating. This one had a wood door entrance instead of the usual cave entrance. That's what enticed me and also it was the home of the imps that kept attacking me on the road so I wanted to get them in their lair. Boy was that a mistake! Now I'm about to get into trouble again. I'm just about to go exploring Fort Ash. I hope I don't get hopelessly lost and stuck again. Do you remember this place? It looks like it's going to be a maze so this time I was smart and saved by the door. I caught some kind of disease outside and upstairs from a dead creature but cured it. I hope the whole place isn't diseased!
