Does the title of this thread bother anyone at all other than me?

Hi nickie, thanx for the info. Nickie, can u tell me where that hermit is found, that u've mentioned. There are some druids near this magical circle that doesn't do anything I guess. The elder druid does sell some things but I couldn't find 'dog tallow'
When I was transferrin all the dog tallows to the inn chest, I found out that I had one more, maybe from outskirts so they are 5 in total. I only need one. Would this quest become unavailable if I start chapter three cause I've done all the other ones and now have to just go to the tower.

The only hermit in the game comes much later in Chapter 4 or 5 I think, hugh. If you only need one more dog tallow, you might go ahead and finish the quest. Have you looked in all the houses and the basements? I think that's where I found most of mine when I did the quest. If you can get into the cemetary, there will be more fun to be had before you start chapter 3!

I did go to the cemetery, I guess I found one there. Yes, I think I've checked all the houses and merchants here. Maybe I didn't check much in the sewers.

Maybe it depends on what you've done in the game, but for me the hermit was available when you go to the swamp for the first time in chapter 2 - he's right near the boat, and you can pick up a quest from him. But you don't have to, and you can go inside his shack which is in the northeast part of the swamp. The Druids had quests later though.
I think any of the quests that you can pick up outside of the inns on the bulletin boards in chapter two are available in chapter three as well.

Let's all be compassionate about spelling errors folks - without the spell check that sure isn't the first, and won't be the last from anyone. I imagine I do them often.

Gramps is the Hermit in the swamp, you will see him as you first go to the swamps the very first time and he will ask you to take him to a shrine. There is more to him than meets the eye. Watch out for him.

I already killed Gramps. The worse thing is that I read that a dog starts to follow you as u do this quest with gramps and gets killed by monsters. The dog DID start followin me and probably got killed too but I can't find his remains. I didn't turn back when the dog got killed since I wanted to runaway from that echinops lookin plant


That's a good news for me I guess. I'm tired of searching houses. I may still search the sewers but if I can't find it there I might find it in chapter three if the quest won't end.

Oh, THAT hermit. Gramps was quite a yucky character. I killed him the first time and let him live the second time. I don't remember a dog following me, but probably missed him.
There is a place you can enter over on the left side of the cemetary beyond some gross looking ponds for plenty of Gravier fights. Try going to the cemetary at night and see what you encounter!

Hugh and Drac-

As I read through the first walkthrough there is a friendly dog that follows Geralt from place to place. He is not suppose to be killed, but if beasts did it well, not your fault. Just a friendly dog. Just part of the storyline.

Hmmm... I'll have to pay more attention as I've never seen him.

I only noticed him when he was followin me and gramps I don't see cats in chapter 2 but hear meows near dwarf areas.

Remember when Geralt and Dandolion were leaving Lakeside for Vizima? A dog stood at the beach and howled for Geralt. You will see it at the Dyke and following him all over town.

(should I say ironically) when I finally thought to start chapter 3, since I could continue the dogcatcher quest, I found the 'dog tallow' in the chest in the tower where azar sends u lol. I could've continued to move ahead but I went back and completed the quest. Although, I didn't kill any dogs, I still felt guilty. I wish there was a dialog like "thanks for killng the dogs" and witcher would reply "I didn't kill any..."

No L4L, there is a kinder gentler way to find dog tallow as hugh mentioned. Although, early on in the game you will come across some "dogs" that glow green and spread fire in their wake. I would not hesitate in dispatching those if I were you...

L4L, I would have had to skip any quest that involved killing dogs, too! When I first got it, I thought - no way. But then I started finding pots of dog tallow to pick up. Still a little icky for me, but tolerable. The green glowing "beasts" are no problem, however!

I didn't have any problem with the devil dogs, but I did with some wolves later in the game. Killed as few as possible in order to not get killed, and backed off from the rest.

Me too. I wouldn't mind so much, but the sounds when I did have to fight the wolves really creeped me out...

I didn't hesitate to kill 'the dogs turnin into barghests' either. But I didn't want to do the normal dog killing but luckly I found dog tallows. I would've skipped this too I guess but I didn't want to miss 500 experience points.
