I think the only merchants that will eventually have enough $ would be Creeper in Caldera and the MudCrab merchant that I haven't run across yet. Creeper starts off with $5000 a day, but you would have to purchase enough stuff from him until he has enough $ to buy your expensive item. Then when he regenerates enough money, you can sell all his stuff back to him. Personally I don't bother selling anything expensive, just all the excess armor I pick up from people I have killed (in the line of duty, of course).

I leave my stuff in one of the rooms in either Mages or Fighters guilds, somewhere convenient, I do not leave them in the chests, just piled up on the floor. Somehow I don't trust the chests as items in them can respawn. I have even left piles on the sand, on the streets, wherever until I have time to sell them.

Haven't used invisibility potions yet, I have used sneak when I am out of someones direct line of vision, if they turn around I get busted. I stole a very expensive filled soul gem from someone in Sadrith Mora, she called me a thief but nobody came to arrest me.

I am sure that Trail, Hagatha and Syd will be along soon to help, I am pretty much a newbie at this also.

Creeper is the easiest merchant to use because he's easiest to get to. I usually start out by selling him anything I don't need because he will buy at 100% of the value of the goods, unlike other merchants. He can buy 5,000 worth of goods each 24 hours, and you can rest in front of him, so you can sell 5,000 worth of goods, rest, sell again, etc. When he has enough stuff worth 2,000 and 3,000 or so you can start to sell him the expensive items. Trade him a sword worth 20,000 -- he'll give you his 5,000 and you'll also have to take another 15,000 worth of goods from him, then rest and start selling back the other goods 5,000 at a time.

If an item isn't needed for a quest you can either use it or sell it.

Invisibility potions are helpful but it's really better to hone your Sneak (I think that's the relevant skill) if you want to steal without getting caught. If you get caught there are penalties. If there's no-one around you can just take things, but watch out if someone sees you. You could get expelled from a Guild or a House, for example, and that's not a good thing! In general never get caught stealing. Usually people will let you know if they see you stealing but sometimes you might not know you've been seen until you get arrested and sent to jail.

I seem to be at a stuck point, I have 3 outstanding Necromancer quests to do and the one to obtain the Helm from the guy in Eight Plates for Redoran. I am too weak for the Necromancers and the guy won't give up the helm unless I bribe him $3000gp, yikes, I quit out of that. Open other quests are something in Adamunmuran (forget what that was) and the Vivec stuff about the 7 victims (Dumer woman with dagger). Any suggestions here? Should I be like Mad and just roam about looking for caves, tombs, anything to bring up my stats?

My personal opinion is yes, definitely wander. You'll increase your experience, stats and gather a bunch of goodies as well. 3000GP will eventually seem like a mere pittance. lol

I am wandering, went into a shipwreck and almost drowned, not even much in there, then wandered into Zainsipilu cave and lots of stuff, scrolls galore, not sure if I want to bother going back for the clothes and armor as it is heavy and not worth much. I bought this really good sword that takes down bandits really fast, even those with axes, it is a Dwemer Gink Sword (I think it is Gink) that I bought from someone in Vivec, I think. It paralyzes them for 30 sec or so, just enough to whack them to death. I love it. I tried a different sword on the bandits and immediately croaked. I really hate caves when I am playing during the day, it is so hard to see anything, I think I need blackout blinds.

Back to wandering!

Hi hawkavonpuka smile

Have you tried the Gamma slider in the Main Menu Options ??

I've used that occasionally and it certainly helped grin

Madge reporting in  grin  We have been working on our Fighter's Guild quests.  Had a terrible time finding some guy in Sadrith Moria.  He was in a tower room at Tel Naga.  I hope no one saw me kill him.  There was a guard outside in the hall so I shut the door.  I think I'm okay since I passed one of the Imperial Legion guards on my way back to the guild and he didn't arrest my sorry self.  Now I'm off to find the Pudai egg mine off some island somewhere.

I stumbled across an ebony cuirass (well actually it was on the  body of the baddie I killed).  Now that's a cool looking piece of armor.  Hope there's more of it floating around the game.

Hawka have you joined the Imperial Cult?  The first group of quests are really easy - more fetch 10 of this and 5 of that, collect alms from tightwads, that sort of thing. They don't get tough until you do the Oracle Quests - then you run into some serious baddies but man do you get some neat stuff. The Imperial Cult is in Ebonheart - I sorta stumbled on them while doing another quest (I think it was the Main quest that come to think of it I should probably get back into at some point).

Well, back to egg gathering.

I am once again way up north doing one of Cosades quests, to the Urshilaku Camp to try to get those closed-mouth people to talk to me. I think I did something wrong, so back to my save, sigh!!! It was a horrible walk there, getting gouged and poked by Cliff Racers. I passed by some cavern called Shishi and there were dead people in every room. I got spooked and decided to move on to my destination. Anyone know what that was all about? I would much rather have live guys rushing me.

Haven't joined anything but Mages, Fighters and Redoran and I still don't feel strong enough at almost level six to kill the
Necromancers waiting for me. I have three of those quests hanging, Nchurdamz, Vas and Shal. I haven't been able to taunt the guy in Eight Plates enough to fight him for the Founders Helm and I sure don't want to pay him for it. Then I said I would help keep an eye out for the Dunmer woman with the dagger killing people in Vivec. If she can kill Ordinators, not sure if I even want to mess with her.

I really love my Dwemer Ginksword, it paralyzes for (I think) 30 seconds, whacks bandits pretty fast, haven't tryed it on a real nasty yet. If they have resist magika, if may not work in time.
I still am not good at all with using magic stuff, I am too slow and I haven't had anyone enchant anything. I am up to 17K and have lots of stuff just sitting on the floor in Balmora Mages.

Edit here: I seem to be stuck in these burial caverns, I can't get across the water to the Karma Burial, if I swim there is no place to climb up to the entrance. How do I get up there, hope it is not levitate as I don't do that yet and have no scrolls or potions to do so, arggh!

Hi hawkavonpuka smile

I don't seem to be doing anything the same as you right now ....

I'm in Vivec - and remembering where people are or even finding my way round is not easy !!

Talk about taking 5 years to play Morrowind .... I could be stuck in Vivec alone for that long rotfl

Cheers.

I know that Syd was there, I just finished rereading the first MW thread you started Mad, hopefully she will notice me. This area involves the Main Quest, the one that you have to keep going back to Cosades in Balmora to move on. If I can't get past this one, then I will head down south again. I want to look for the glass armor too, this Orc stuff is wearing on me and I lost the shield somewhere down there. I am not happy in Vivec, though I have become somewhat used to it. Too much running around the Cantons, up and down. I have to keep making it daylight to see the ramps outside.

I got the code book! Yea me. 'Course I had to kill Scottilde to get it but ya do what ya gotta do. I got my Speechcraft up to 40 and finally was able to taunt her into attacking me. Not sure how the Thieves Guild will react to me killing "one of our own" but......I got the dang code book. Now I'm cleaning out a bandit cave and obviousily I left someone alive because I'm getting the "did you kill all the bandits" comment from Eydis Fire Eyes. So it's back to Peligrid I go, hi ho, hi ho.

I have a quest from the Thieves' Guild to get a dwemer bowl, tube and globlet from some guy and I know at one time I had all three - hopefully I sold them to Creeper and I can buy them back.

Hawka I wish I could help you but I haven't done that quest yet. I think I went in when I was around level 17 and got the daylights beat out of me so I left and haven't been back yet.
Do you have Water Walk? That will get you above the water line - otherwise I think you're sunk so to speak. That same thing happened to me in the sewers in Vivec. I went into the water and could not get back out so it was reload time. I don't use much magic other than to heal myself and transport myself around. I'm too slow with the fireballs etc. Besides it's more fun to smack the baddies with my sword or axe (right now I have a pretty glass sparksword I'm using).

Mad - I'm surprised I didn't see you in Vivec. I just whipped through there on my way to Balmora from Sir Crab. I use Vivec as a travel point. I developed this system of travel that works out pretty darn good. I have my Mark spell at Sir Crab so when I need to unload and sell stuff I just do Recall, sell or drop what I need on Sir Crab's little island, hit my hot key for Divine Intervention which transports me to Ebonheart, then I hit my hot key for Almsivl Intervention which takes me to the Temple in Vivec. From there I whip over to the travel guy standing at the Redoran Canton and have him take me to the Foreign Quarter where I head for the Mage's Guild and transport to the nearest city where I need to be. From there I hit either the boats or the stilt riders. It's really cut down on my stomping around time.

And Mad - 5 years doesn't really sound all that long for this game especially if you have Tribunal and Bloodmoon installed (which I do)- I've been at this game about 7 months now and I just hit level 24.

Edit : Hawka - if you want I can head up north and try those caverns and see what's what.

I thought you did that one cause you mentioned in the old thread that you were at the Urshilsku Camp, with the Ashlanders. When they finally talk to you, they send you to the Astral Burial caves to get a bow from a spirit. USH hints says to go from Astral>Karma>Laterus>Juno. The first one just had a a couple of skeletons, but I am sure it gets worse as one goes along. If you have the time to check, I would appreciate it. I don't have waterwalk either and still that rock is pretty high up there.

I don't have my Tribunal and Bloodmoon installed, I didn't want to be bothered by assassins so early in the game.

Edit: I did it, I found a "bargain" rising forces bottle in inventory and I went to the closest point and managed, just barely, to get across. Hopefully I won't have to do that again for awhile.

I got through the burial cavern and got the bow and got approval from the Ashlanders and now can sleep in their bedrolls. But, OMG I am heading back to Balmora and getting hit by every creature in the world. I have gotten yellow tick disease and my attributes are very low and of course I am overemcumbered. I am going back to a save and go back the way I came here.

Edit here: I am finally back in Balmora, but I was really sick from some other thing I caught from those animals out there. I think I am going to hang out in the cities for awhile. The temple cured most of it, but I used up two of my quality restore ajility potions so I must buy some more. I can't even remember what I caught, something to do with the knees, anyway sounds like the real me, sick

Way to go Hawka - for some reason those caverns gave me the willies and I never went in them.  Guess I should head back up and finish that much of the Main Quest.I'm on the last couple of Fighter's Guild quests which involve killing the bosses of the Thieves Guild and the other heads of houses in the Fighter's Guild. I think I'll wait on those.  I discovered the hard way that if I get a bounty on me for some reason when they take back the stolen goods they take all my grand soul gems - and they are all filled except for a couple I just picked up in a cave called Mannammu.  So if you take items from chests etc in bandit and shrine raids that's considered stealing or does my group of guards have sticky fingers for the really expensive items?

I'm checking out a couple of Mage Guild quests - something about a staff and trying to find some guy in Balmora about what he knows about missing dwarves and translating books.  Hawka I've gotten Yellow Tick disease before from one of those ankle biting rats.  I have a Cure Common Disease Spell so it takes care of most of the nasty stuff.  Just to be safe when I was in Ebonheart I stopped by the Imperial Shrine, donated 5 gold and made sure I didn't have any other disease lurking.  I must of had something because it took my money and did it's shiny wavey thing on me  grin

Mad didn't mean to make you dizzy.  I re-read what I wrote and it made me tired lol Vivec is huge and I get lost all the time. I've only done a few quests there. I'm still working on trying to figure out who killed 5 of the Ordinators.

One advanage to belonging to the Thieve's Guild is that if you do get a bounty on your head, you can go to specific Guild contacts and pay to have the bounty removed. Very handy, and you don't lose any of your hard "earned" stuff by getting caught.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Trail it took trial and error and many, many hours of work (okay I confess it was mostly dumb luck) to come up with that system. Since I can take advantage of the Boots of Blinding Speed it takes me all of about two minutes in real time to get to the Mage's Guild in Vivec. But it sure works great for me.

I just got the Staff of Magnus and am now on my way back to Balmora to report.

On a personal note - Trail how are you doing with all the rain? I'm in the corner of the world (northern Cali) that they are advising us not to breathe outside due to all the friggin fires. Hope you and yours are safe -

Hi smile

It's really interesting to see how many different aspects of this game there actually are in which to involve oneself.

We all seem to be on different paths, having different adventures, yet we're playing the same game grin

Anyway, I'll have to be getting back to Vivec myself - so I can get lost some more - or spend hours trying to find someone I once met and whose whereabouts I can't now for the life of me discover lol

Cheers.

I think pretty much everything I found that works well in Morrowind was through trial and error lol

We did OK here, it's mainly west of us that got hit the worst. Lots of counties still under flood warnings and a few areas still under water. Not sure if you saw that footage on the news of the homes floating away when one of our dams gave way. It's pretty odd to see a big muddy pit where there was once a lake.

I saw the fires near you on the news, might want to consider picking up a good dust mask or respirator just in case... I tell ya' between the floods, fires, earthquakes and volcanoes erupting I'm starting to wonder who flipped the apocalypse switch. lol

I thought the Burial Caves sort of creepy too, there are mummies perched up on top of rocks, each of them was holding some sort of goodie to take, once you searched around to catch it. Lots of climbing up on the rock piles. It was rather eerie, especially with the dripping water sounds. There few other burial sites off the of the last main cave that I did not investigate. I knew from the w/t which one had the wraith and I didn't feel like going there just for stuff. Each cave had a couple of it's own skeletons that die quickly with my silver swords, there was one rat in the first and one on the rocks in the large water area. Actually that is why I found the tunnel to where I wanted to go, it was on the rock I had to climb over. The cave where the bow was was of course the hardest due to the wraith, it was hard to keep track of. All in all the caves were not that dark and very pretty, but all that water and you have to go in it. Once you kill the skeletons you can rest and heal in each of the caves, that made it easier also. But those disease carrying critters, I had guars and alits attacking me at the same time and the sick ones just don't die as quickly. I think I should have switched to a poison weapon.

I don't think it is fair that you get punished for taking bandits goods, heck they attack us first. Most of my good stuff I have found or taken off someone dead, bandits stuff I usually sell. Maybe I shouldn't carry expensive stuff around, but I am constantly saving. Usually I am just looking at something, like reading books and I end of nabbing a stupid bowl or pot, busted.

Didn't play at all today, off to Hilo for shopping and now am too tired even though I didn't do the driving. Tomorrow I will return.

Morrowind has a very dark side to it. It's a grim world. You'll travel through a lot of terrible dungeons and run into a lot of undead and and things that by all rights should be dead. But there are rewards for braving the dark, usually big rewards. Once you have a full arsenal of spells and some good armour and a fabulous weapon, you'll start seeking out those cold drippy places. With a smile on your face.

No smile yet Hagatha, but I am feeling a bit better about myself, just reached level 6. I love my Dwemer Jinksword, but it's charge is down and the smith only can repair it so much, I recharged it before but maybe it just has to wait for awhile. I still get the quaking knees anytime I enter a tomb or cave, those sounds just get to me. I know nothing undead is in there cause the bandits are hiding in it and it would have gotten them first, but still, the icky breathing sounds, creepy, can I have a partner please?

Moving on here, I finally got the Founders Helm from the stupid idiot in Eight Plates. I realized that I have Emperors Voice, so I ka'd with that and bribed him 300gp and got the Helm. Better than coughing up 3000gp. I really wanted to whack him to death with the Jinksword though, oh well, moving on. I am now doing some mediocre tasks for the Redorans, Old Blue Fin is next.

I still haven't run into Madge or Mad's person, hey Mad, what is your characters name? I am hawka, of course, couldn't at the moment think of anything clever. I did use the cheat to change my face and hair, I just looked so much like I had a five o'clock shadow, so I picked the most fem face I could find, then I lightened my hair and spiked it. Of course I have on an Orc Helm so nobody cept me can see my face anyway. Maybe tomorrow I will get a screenie and post it, I would like to see what the others look like also.

Hi smile

A question ....
I get all my magic weapons back up to full charge when I visit a Smith and ask for "repairs" but how do I get things like my magic rings and amulets re-charged ??
I have a Ring of Health and an Amulet of Health that both need boosts now eek

And hawkavonpuka ....
My character has the rathering boring name of Madd !! wink
And I don't seem to have been to very much of where you or Syd seem to go.
I've been as far North as Ald'ruhn, West to Andasreth and to a very few Southeastern bits PLUS South as far as Vivec - with a very brief visit to Ebonheart.
But I have spent years mountaineering in all those areas to get my stats up evil

Cheers.

If you rest for long enough your magic stuff should recharge, although it can take a long time (days, for the better items). I know this is true for magic weapons, and I'm pretty sure it's true for enchanted jewellery.

You can also recharge with filled soul gems, although I would recommend waiting until you've trained up your enchant skill a bit, and never use the better soul gems because they're too useful for making items. The little cheapo turquoise ones filled with Cliff Racers and Rats are good to start with, for practise -- and the more you try to recharge with soul gems, the better your Enchant skill.

I can't remember if an Enchanter will refill magic items -- it's been a while since I played. But it would make sense that they would.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
