Hi hagatha smile

The "magic" weapons I am speaking of are those that have an "extra" effect such as shock or frost or fire blast (when striking a baddie) and they all get put back to their full power by any Smith I happen to come across happydance

Are there more sophisticated magic weapons then - that require a different re-charge treatment ??

As for my Ring (and Amulet) of Healing etc, I suppose I should look at the manual instead of pestering here blush

The same goes for enchantment stuff. I have no idea how that works either, although I do have quite a few points for it in my stats !!

Cheers.

Maybe I'm running a few brain cells short, but I'm pretty sure that resting for a long time will also recharge your magic stuff. Filled soul gems will also do it. Try it and see. There's more than one way to do things in this game.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I think you are correct Hagatha, I repaired my Dwemer Ginksword but the full charge wasn't back, a couple of days later in Morrowind time it was fully charged. I just switched to a different weapon for awhile.

I was trying to do the side quest and look for Hannat Zainsubani for his father, he is in Mamaea, that place is wicked. I died quite a few times with something/someone doing the Royal Zap on me, I saved and ran like you know what outa that place. Meanwhile I have been doing some really easy stuff for the Redoran guy in Ald Velothi, I am done for now and probably off to Vivec next.

Oh I forgot, I am supposed to go to Shishi (with all the dead people) to find out what happened to them, scared

Yup, time heals all as they say. Weapons and magic items will recharge as time passes. Early in the game I usually try to find a strategic bolt holes that I can run to in time of need in various locations and use it to rest and recharge.

Places to run and hide from what ever nasty is trying to kill me lol

Can be between rocks, behind a tree, in a cave, someone's house, etc... I usually try and plan out where I can run before I jump into battle. I know how easy it is to get killed in the early levels...

I don't think I will get much playing time in for the next few days at least My daughter and her three kids arrived today from Oahu, she is staying 5 days, they are staying three weeks. eek But I haven't seen them since last November and the trip used up all my HA miles and some cash, soooo might as well enjoy them for now. Grandpa has plans for hunting and fishing so those days I will have only the girls, he gets the twins and the extra one we call "the triplet" cause they are all almost the same age. So if you don't see me on, I am running with the kids. bravo

Hawka, enjoy the running. How old are the kids? I'm keeping my 11 month old grandson while his folks are away--it's been awhile since I had to worry about a baby full time wave

The two that live with us are boy 12, girl 8, the three that are visiting are twin boys 12 and girl 9, fun fun. I don't think I could handle babies anymore, at least older ones are pretty self sufficient.

Hi hagatha smile

Yes, thanks !!
[I'm getting used to things a lot more now grin]

Having said that though, I just went underwater into KOAL Cave and haven't found anything to do - except die from drowning eek

Very much earlier in the game I agreed to escort someone to this cave but sadly lost him because I got distracted en route and ended up elsewhere lol
However, happening to be in the area again, I decided to take a look at the cave anyway - but am finding no reason to make it worth the struggle of being here woozy

So I might just forget it and go back to the save before I entered ....

A Glorious Game bravo

Cheers.

I think Koal Cave is one of the Temple Quests. There's a shrine in there, and a nasty enemy, if you go in far enough.

I escorted two people into Koal cave and did not investigate it at all. I don't need any more nasty enemies at my still weak stage, so I will stay out of the cave. If you want nasties Mad, go find Hannat Zainsubani for his father in Mamaea, that was a quest off of another Redoran (I think) quest. I wish I could print off my journal or it would be nice if it nagged at you about the unfinished ones. I have post-it notes stuck on my monitor and I still can't remember who gave the quests to me.

Yup Koal Cave is a Temple Quest.  Pretty easy one too - you just need to place an offering at the shrine just as you walk in to complete it.  I swam around and found a few nasties that I killed but never did find the head nasty as far as I know and I swear I hit all the areas - oh, well.

Madge is at level 30 and we're in Gnaar Mok trying to find the breeding netches to kill (this is an Imperial Legion quest).  I've killed one of them and unfortunately a couple of non-breeders so I hope they don't start attacking me everywhere I go.  Still looking for the other one unless I killed it earlier.I'm going to have to look for a smith soon to repair my sword and armor. I've been neglecting to do so and I'm looking kind of ratty.

Hi smile

Well I wasn't enjoying myself in that cave - although I could be tempted to return later, of course whistle

And I too constantly forget who has given me a quest. But even if I DO remember, I forget where they "live" ....
I spend many hours traipsing round looking for my reward from someone, somewhere lol

Cheers.

Greetings from the Ashlands. Spent most of yesterday (hope everyone had a wonderful fourth) doing Imperial Legion Quests. Almost loused up one of them royally (Mad, you're not the only one who forgets what and who). Guess I'd started it earlier - something about getting a land deed. I remember getting the proof which was an axe and then I obviously got sidetracked and never completed it because it was still open in my log. So I looked in my inventory - no axe hardwall - I only sell weapons and armor to two merchants - The Creep and Sir Crab - the axe was safely in The Creep's inventory - - whew.

I also kept getting seriously attacked by two assassins from the Dark Brotherhood about every third time I rested. I finally killed them both but not before they killed me many, many times first. I guess I'd best do what I was told and go talk to what's his face up north.

Hawka I just finished the Burial Chamber quest and if you went in there at level 6 you have my utmost respect. I went in at a smug level 30 and got the socks beat off me crazy I'd dealt with skeleton warriors before and had no problems bringing them down - these guys were another matter.

hagatha or Trail I need your help. I need simple instructions (think blonde here) on how to go about enchanting something. Especially what the points etc mean and how you assign them. I have about 12 filled grand soul gems that I want to use - mostly Golden Saints - some Winged Twilight. I know I need spells - I have a bunch of them and want to make items for constant effect - like feather, health and whatever else I can think of that will prove useful.

Guess I'll get back into the game - I'm on my way to Ebonheart by way of Balmora.

Syd I wonder if the baddies are worse just because you are at a higher level. I did not risk my life by going into the chambers I didn't have to and I ran back and healed each time my health went down. I used one of my silver one handed short swords and this really neat Shield of the Undaunted (armor rating 27) that I was given for a quest. The skeleton archer was the hardest, but I just run at them, dodging with the mouse and whack away. I did take a beating from the wraith though, he nearly got me.

Today my two daughters left to cut their hair, so I have six kids upstairs, shudder. Maybe I will just go and hide in Morrowind.

Could be Hawka or it could be I was smug and figured I'd just run through there with no problems - showed me grin

I'm on my last couple of Imperial Legion Quests - then I guess I'll start on my house quests (Hlaalu) or the Temple Quests or go back and get the last couple of Mage's quests now that I have one of my attributes at 70.

And Hawka good luck with the 6 kids evil

Enchantment 101.

You can make two kinds of enchanted items. One kind has an enchantment that gets used up, like your magical weapons. These are spells that get cast when you strike an enemy with a magic weapon, for example, or like your magic rings, where you select the spell and cast it.

The other kind has what is called a Constant Effect, which is best used for armour, clothing and jewellery. You never have to actualy cast the spell. As long as you wear the item, it is in effect.

If you have a very high level of Enchantment you might be able to make one of the former type, but even at the highest levels it is highly unlikely that you will ever be able to create a Constant Effect item. If your attempt at enchantment fails, you'll lose your Soul Gem. Go to an enchanter for both types. It's a lot easier, and 100% reliable; no failures.

Item of Constant Effect Item

Ingredients:

One filled soul gem (Golden Saint)
One very high quality item to be enchanted
One enchanter at your local Mage Guild

Ask the enchanter about enchanting, and a special enchantment screen will open up. Spend some time investigating this screen, because there's a lot of information on it.

There is a place you can select the soul gem you want to use. Click on that. There is another place to select the item you want to use. Click on that.

In the screen you can also see how much enchantment the item you have selected will hold. Armour holds less enchantment than jewellery. It's best to use a Golden Saint Grand Soul gem on a very high quality item such as an exquisite amulet because those items hold the most enchantment.

Look at the bottom left of the enchanting screen. There is a toggle you can click on that you can switch so that it says "Constant Effect." This is what you want for a permanently enchanted item that never needs recharging. For all intents and purposes, only Golden Saints can be used to make Constant Effect items.

Then look at the spell selection menu on the left of the enhanting screen. This is where you select what enchantment you want to put on your item. Only spells you know will be on this list. Select your spell. For the purpose of this discussion, choose Fortify Strength. Once you have selected the spell, on the right side of the enchantment screen there is a section that will tel you whether you want this spell effect to apply to you, to or to an enemy. Select "self."

Now pick the magnitude. Note that you can't go above the limit of the item you have selected. You can probably create an enchanted exquisite amulet of Fortify Strength magnitude 10 or so.

Double check that you have Constant Effect selected.

Then name your item according to your taste or lack thereof. It's your game. No one need know that you called your Fortify Strength amulet "Buns O' Steel."

Non-Constant Effect Items:

If you have a less powerful soul in your gem, you can make great weapons (which will need recharging, of course). Go through the instructions as above but make sure that the spell is aimed at your enemy and not yourself. Give the spell a range and/or duration. Play around until you get the combo you want. Deadric weapons hold quite a lot of enchantment so I prefer those.

Don't bother trying to make a ranged weapon that has an offensive spell effect. It won't work.

But you could make a Constant Effect bow that increases your dexterity, just as an example. Or you could make a sword that gives you a Constant Effect strength boost.

Once you get the hang of it, you'll make all sorts of good stuff. My advice is to save your game, start the enchanting process and play around until you understand the screen and the options.

Other ideas:

Constant Effect Bound Bow enchanted on a bow. The advantage? Bound weapons are Deadric, but they weigh nothing. Carry a light bow, enchant it with Constant Effect Bound Bow, and when you equip your crummy bow, the spell will go into effect and you'll be using a Deadric Bow!

Rechargable Absorb Health Deadric Sword.

Exquisite clothing with Constant effect Fortify Magica, Dex, Strength, etc. Wear it over your armour. Looks cool, too.
