Yup. I was forced by circumstances to join the Militia this time, and have become a Paladin for the very first time in any RPG ever. It wasn't a happy choice. I'm much more comfortable with mages and thieves. But I've got NOTR installed, and I could NOT kick Bullco's butt, nor knock Sylvestro off his path, and could not, alas, join the mercenaries as a result.

So. Paladin. Paladin who is, as it happens, also a master thief, but let's keep that our litle secret, shall we? It's a marriage of convenience; my Mr. Noname does not share the do-good, holier than thou philosophy of the true Paladins. He's got a job to do, and by gosh and by golly, he's gonna get it done. He's a Paladin, and he has a Light rune to prove it.

But -- when he asks about getting another rune, he is offered a choice between the Path of Combat and the Path of Magic. Does this mean he can only progress in either combat OR healing? Or is that merely a choice of runes at this particular point in time?

And where the heck are the Paladin trainers? Are they all in the war zone in the Valley of Mines?

Also -- what's with the Paladin sword? 5,000 to consecrate it and it only does a lousy 60 damage?

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

hagatha, isn't it amazing that I got distracted from Gothic 2 (well, actually because at this point I managed to find a copy of Gothic 1 after having started the series with G3, then halfway through there, swopped to G2) at about exactly the point where you have to finally decide who to join? I had also joined the Paladins myself, as at that stage, I didn't know any of my previous buddies from G1, as I had not played G1 at that point, yet.
I found it amazing how much playing G1, subsequently changed my perception of the other 2 Gothics.

Anyway, -to answer your question about the healing/combat, as I understand it, Paladins get to do both, so you needn't really worry that the one kind of magic will block you from also doing the other, later on.
Visiting the Gameboomer's Dark Side forum has made me realise how much I've been neglecting my RPG's.(In favour of Ag's, lately)
Time for a change, I think!

Thanks.

I couldn't play Gothic 3 -- my computer just isn't up to it. And from what I saw of it, it was a good game, but it was NOT Gothic as I know and love it.

I haven't played GOthic 1 for a while, but probably will soon. NOTR is a huge addition to Gothic 2, and I feel as though I've been playing forever. Great value.

My partner keeps looking over my shoulder and saying, "STILL killing Orcs after all these years?"

I've also been itching to come back to Gothic again, as my method of obtaining G1, was to purchase G universe , which of course, also contains NOTR. The Gothic games are just so huge,(G3 is even bigger than G2, which is much bigger than G1)and I am so snowed under by my huge "unplayed" pile, because there was a period of about 8-9 months when I worked long hours away from home, and so got behind a lot with my gaming.
Trying to catch up now.
Hagatha, when your'e done with G2, see if the latest G3 patch and an extra stick or 2 of RAM won't help. I also had to eventually stop because of bugginess, but the patch adressed this. G3 is one cool game, bugs aside. What a pity about the engine used and the bugs, though. smashpc

Ah, well, non-Orcslayers just have to understand: Once an Orc-slayer, always an Orc-slayer. wink lol They (Orcs) seem to be perpetually crawling out of the woodwork in the world of Fantasy gaming. rolleyes

Filthy Orcses!

I kind of blew it with my stats in this game, though. Normally I like to get my Dex up fast so I can (ahem) steal things. But with NOTR installed, I can see that strength-based two-handed weapons would have been a distinct advantage. I'm not sure how I could change the way I played, though. You just have to have dexterity it you want all those pickpocketing points -- and there's a lot of those, too. But even without using skill points on mana I'm kind of stuck where I am, at this point.

Ah well. I have my strength levelled up to 90 and eight Strength potions plus a level 3 Strength stone tablet left. I can get up to about 120 in strength and train up my crossbow and two-hander skills. There aren't a lot of really good one-handed swords in the game, either Dex or Strength based. The Master sword isn't the greatest once you hit the Orc Hordes.

Not that there's much left in the Valley of Mines anyway, other than the dragons and the odd stray Orc.

Phooey. In NOTR you can't even GET the higher level Paladin runes. Next time I'm going back to my mage/archer combo. Much more fun.

Oh, creepers! My hddrive accidentally got formatted (don't ask oops) 2 days ago due to a problem with my PC upgrade, and I've now lost all my Gothic 1,2 & 3 gamesaves, as well as my Oblivion, and Morrowind (amongst others - but those are the saddest! crazy slapforehead cry)

Anyway, was wondering if I could bum a gamesave or 2 off you, Hagatha? (Seeing as 'ol nameless comes just as he is - you gotta take him, you cannot choose between an Orc/argonian/elf/blah blah etc. TES games I'll simply have to start from scratch)

Well, I actually lied when I said I had played G1 -well, I did, but not entirely to the end - I got lost in the Sleeper Temple. headscratch

Wuz wondering if I could bum a gamesave of just before the Sleeper Temple, or of somewhere in the Sleeper temple, but still before he actually confronts the Sleeper? pacify
