Thanks guys.
Just curious what's the learning curve from XP to Win7? Is it radically different?

Personally, I didn't think it was much of a curve at all. I would highly recommend that you watch the Getting Started video available in Help and Support on the Start menu. There are many great new features that you might miss. While it's definitely different, I didn't think it was radically different.

I think the biggest "curve" for the average adventure gamer would be learning tweaks for Windows 7 that they may not have had to do for XP. But we have Draclvr's Windows 7 thread to help with that.

Mostly for games from before Vista and Windows 7 came out. But some older games work OK without tweaking. Draclvr's thread can tell you more.

wheeeee
it's great!...........except I have no sound.
I'm sure it's a setting I'm missing.
I know I have then plugged into the right 'jack-in-the-back". They are Boston digital bac3795 speakers. The drivers are updated/

Check the Digital/Analog settings in the driver - they have to match the speakers.

From Control Panel, under Hardware and Sound - click Manage Audio Devices. You'll find the option on the Speaker Properties sheet (on the Custom tab).

You have to go a little further. Do you seen any speakers listed in the Manage Audio screen? There should be a Speakers listing with a green check by it indicating that your speakers are properly plugged into the sound card. If there is, click on Properties. Make sure Use This Device (Enable) is checked. From this screen you can set your sound levels etc.

Thanks guys. Apparently my very good speakers aren't compatible with Win7 onboard sound. So I installed the Creative soundcard from my old computer updated the drivers and wouldn't you know great sound! Playing Spiderwick which is a great little game so far.

As for the new machine it's amazing the technology change from 4 years ago when I got my last machine. This machine is so quiet (and I got an extra fan) I have to check it's on. And very impressed with ecollegepc so far. Mike has been great about any issues (he put me on the right track for the speakers). And you can't beat the price! I priced a comparable system from Dell and I probably saved $500-$600s. And just not having to deal withtheir tech support...........
Thanks, caz

What a great report to know that ecollegePC is living up to the hype about their customer service! I would guess your speakers weren't compatible with the on-board sound on your motherboard and Windows 7 didn't have drivers for them either.

I just set up a computer they built for a friend. I think my favorite thing was - NO BLOATWARE! It was pure bliss.

Sounds like you're having fun!
