Inferno still has an active link to the D3D patch for The 11th Hour (which allows it to be played under native XP). Inferno's 11th Hour Setup/Walktrough Search the page for 11WIN.ZIP

There was a beta DirectX version of 11th Hour that required a "patch" called 11hwin.zip. Inferno used it in her ***XP Setup***. Unfortunately it's hard to find a download site for it any more.

Thanks InlandAZ and Jenny100. I've pretty much reconciled to the fact that I probably will not be able to play it but will take a look-see anyway.
Yea, doesn't look like you can download the patch anymore.

Thanks again to both of you. I'll check them both out!
Inland, I still couldn't get to the download. I got a "program cannot display webpage" screen.
Jenny, My eyes started glazing over before I was half through looking at those instructions. Way too complex for me to attempt.
Hundreds of other games for me to play, so no big loss.
I do really appreciate the help and links though!

You may want to try another browser, it displayed (and downloaded) just fine for me. I can email the zip file to you if you like - let me know,

Are we sure 11h242.zip is the patch for Windows? The update.txt file that's included with the patch says: Subject: The 11th Hour 2.42 beta update
This new beta player for The 11th Hour improves performance on lower-end machines. Because it is still beta, it is currently not supported by Virgin or Trilobyte; however, we have made this beta available because it does help to eliminate choppy audio on some systems.
To install the update, do the following: * Change to the directory where you installed The 11th Hour (i.e. CD\GAMES\11H) * Insert the update disk into your disk drive. * Type COPY A:\V32.EXE * Type GO to run the game.
If you determine that the beta player does not perform to your satisfaction, use the following instructions to return to the original version of the game: * Change to the directory where you installed The 11th Hour (i.e. CD\GAMES\11H) * Insert the first CD into your CD-ROM drive. * Type COPY D:\SYSTEM\V32.EXE (If your CD-ROM drive is not "D", use the correct letter for your CD-ROM drive.) * Type GO to run the game.
This is a groovie(tm) compatible player which has been beta tested by Trilobyte and fixes a number of issues in the original player for The 11th Hour. This is a beta release and is not officially supported.
This version of the player only supports 16-bit color.

Are we sure 11h242.zip is the patch for Windows? Not 100% sure - but, the content does replace V32.exe (which is similar to the replacement for T7G). I'll grab my old install and check it out Edit - Apparently it's not - the V32WIN.EXE in your download will do the trick though

This should make it work in XP then or virtual PC 98? I just install the game and unzip the patch? The patch unzips into a folder with 3 files in it: mss32.dll readme.txt v32win.exe The readme.txt gives instructions on how to install it: To install:
* Extract the files to your 11th Hour directory * Run v32win.exe So you can either extract the patch_t11h.zip file directly into the 11th Hour folder or extract it somewhere else and then copy the mss32.dll and v32win.exe files into your 11th Hour folder. It should work on Windows 98 inside Virtual PC and may also work on XP.

Well, I tried, I failed! The game just doesn't want to install on XP at all. In Virtual PC 98 it said it installed and I did that MIDI and audio drivers stuff but then it just goes back to my desktop. And I can't seem to get the patch into the Virtual PC. I burned it to a disk to move it into there but I can't seem to get it off the disk into the Virtual PC.
I'm done with it. It's not worth any more of anybody's time.
Thanks again though for your help!

I burned a patch for Grim Fandango and got it in there just fine without VPC Additions. I think I was able to just open it into the Grim Fandango folder but 11th Hour does not come up that way for me to get it in there. I don't think it installed properly. It doesn't show up in Programs or show in the Control Panel add and remove list. I did find it in a Games folder (somewhere) though? According to the readme, you extract the zipped files into the 11th Hour folder and then run v32win.exe. I'm not sure if they mean "run to patch" or "run to play it." This is such an old patch, it's not surprising it doesn't show up in Programs or Add/Remove. Usually with DOS games you just delete the game folder when you're done with them, and the same is true of very early Windows games. Also, I seem to have lost some of my notes for VPC and don't use it that often so don't remember. When it first opens it is windowed but when I start 98 it goes to full screen (it did not always do that). How do I get back to windowed screen? I have just been shutting it down to get out of it completely. According to ***eHow***, you use your Home key + the Enter key, and by default your Home key is the right Alt key. Also, please refresh me on capturing the cursor into and then releasing it from VPC. Press the right Alt key. I think once you get Virtual PC back windowed, it will tell you how to release the cursor at the bottom of the window.

Jenny,
I'll have to give it another try tomorrow and note down what or what not is happening so I can explain it better.
I don't know how to use the "quote" thing but you lost me in that top paragraph about the patch not showing up in programs or add/remove? It's the game that doesn't show up in there and the patch doesn't come off my disc and go into VCP (if that makes sense). Also, deleting the game folder when you're done with them?
Let me get back to it tomorrow and see. Or maybe right now. No time like the present I guess.
I'll be back. (Sorry about that!)
Yea, I don't know. I can't make the game come up at all. I can find it under My Computer/C Drive/Games Folder but that's it. Putting the disc in doesn't do anything. Typing D:\GO doesn't do anything anymore. Typing C:\GAMES\11GO doesn't do anything. Clicking the 11h icon doesn't do anything. Right clicking the icon gives me a list of things to "open" with but none of that seems to work either. I can't uninstall to reinstall because I can't find anywhere that actually says it's installed or anywhere that gives me an option to uninstall.
But the good thing is I can minimize the VPC again thanks to you. I remembered something about the right alt but didn't remember the enter part.
