Yahoo !! After several years I'm playing this game again !! And loving it I have been trying to find out if there's a "quick save" option though - but can't find anything in the manual. Does anyone know ?? Maybe it's just too old a game to have one

From what I saw in the manual, there isn't one. But I don't remember if there was one or not So the more experienced ones with this game have to answer that.

Hi Mad I have played the great game as well - also many years ago. I couldn't remember if there were a quick save function or not, so I did a google search. Here's a post from the GOG forum about this game. It also includes a link to the unofficial 1.10 patch for the game. link: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/might_and_magic_series/mm6_unofficial_patch_1_7/page1
I'm not sure if the patch 1.10 makes it so that you can use F11 to quicksave the game, or the game itself uses F11 to quicksave the game. I seem to remember that using F11 to quicksave the game and F5 og F6 to quickload the game. Glad you're enjoying the game

Hi Smiley456 and Karsten I've come to the same conclusion - that there isn't a quick save facility Yes, I saw that patch but I'm not sure I want to use it. Some patches wreck existing saves - and I don't want to have to start over Thank you both for responding !! Cheers. Mad

Hi,
As mentioned before, the unofficial patch allows you to use F11 to save.
This is a great game. One of the best RPGs I've ever played. Now I'm considering digging it up and playing it again. Did you have any problems with it on Windows 7?
I used to play adventure games, then I took an arrow to the knee.

I'm playing it in Win98SE, Smooshmonster, I don't have Windows 7 yet EDIT :A question .... I can get into that secret dungeon (where the game technicians live) and collect all sorts of items and oodles of cash - but have never been able to survive getting out !! I do still have the "fly" scroll though, so if you know how to get out and stay alive, please let me know

Do you have the Lloyd's Beacon or Town Portal spells yet? Teleporting out could be a good idea.
How is your party meeting its untimely demise? Is it the fires?

No, I don't have either of those spells yet, Smooshmonster. I'm probably not far enough into the game. [I can't play every day.] But that sounds like an excellent tip to try when I do have them. Thanks Maybe you can also help me with magic scrolls too, then ?? I can use those like healing and cure wounds but can't work out how to use "action" scrolls like firebolt etc. [I've looked in the manual but couldn't find anything relevant. And it's so long since I last played the game I've forgotten what I did ] AND I'm also desperately hoping to find a "cure disease" spell soon. The temples only seem to offer healing once !! As you can probably tell, I'm not the world's best RPG-er but I do like having a go

Hi Mad, I just tried it out and you click the scroll on the person in inventory who needs to use it and then the game comes up with the little crosshairs so you can aim it at whatever you want. Kay
Forgot to say that you have to be facing the enemy.

" Forgot to say that you have to be facing the enemy. " Ahhhh .... Your edit did the trick. I can use my "action" scrolls now. Great Thank you very much, Kayc !! One thing I must add >>>> I've cleared the Goblin Watch, the Abandoned Temple, The Shadow Guild Hideout and the four islands off Mist - and bits of other stuff too - but it has taken me so long that New Sorpigal has now "re-set" That just proves how pathetic I am (and I had forgotten that the characters age throughout the game) so could I get to be an ailing elderly Hero towards the end of the game who won't be able to hold up his sword, never mind use it ????

Well .... I risked all and made it to Freehaven - but I don't know how long I'll last as everything is way too expensive and all the enemies are lethal It could very well end up being a case of loading an earlier save and trying something else BTW. I found a "Gate Master" in New Sorpigal, living in a house on the SE coast, but there wasn't any option to hire him

Hiya Mad! That's good advice about staying in Free Haven, since you can now use a coach to get there. Money is tight in this game - later there's a bug in the game that lets you get massive amounts of gold - if you want to try it, let me know. I usually see Zoltan Phelps in FH right away - he gives the quest to find an artifact (called Mordred), in the keep south of Free Haven. If you can handle the monsters in there, the artifact is worth 30,000 gold.

Thank you both very much However it's too late !! I decided to reload a save and do more fighting (for experience points and cash) before I try Freehaven .... BUT .... having made it there on foot once, I should be able to do it again, surely ?? Anyway, I'll probably need to be back here for more help and advice before then

Thanks !! I'm enjoying myself, Barb, which is the main reason I play games, even though I may not be the best RPG-er and don't always make it through to the end !!
