Hi smile

I've been looking at the system requirements for this game - and I don't have "dual core".

Does this mean I won't be able to play it on my machine ??

My specs are :

WinXP Home SP3
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+ MMX 3DNow ~ 2.0GHz
ATI Radeon Sapphire HD 3650 AGP
SB Live! 24-bit
2048MB RAM
DirectX 9.c

Cheers.

Yes your laptop is fully compatible with the game.

The sherlock holmes games engines have never been the most efficient and this looks to be no different. That's a hefty spec for an adventure game. I don't think my lappy will be up to it. Would have thought they would have released a demo so people could try. The game isn't cheap enough for people to take a risk.

Unfortunately , Mad , your current system will not be able to run the game . You would either have to play on a console (xbox360 or ps3) , or upgrade your computer . M2jc , the system requirements for this game are hardly "hefty" . Dual and quad core , or better , cpu's are very prevalent , and very affordable . The graphic requirements are low . Anyone with a decent graphics card should be able to run Testament quite handsomely . As for the memory and hdd requirements , 2gb of ram isn't much different than many of today's games require .

Sorry, Mad, but Creeping Doom is correct - your old computer won't be able to play this game. Perhaps mj2c was looking at the questioner's computer specs... Game requirements are these:

OS: WINDOWS XP SP3/WINDOWS VISTA SP2/WINDOWS 7
PROCESSOR: AMD/INTEL DUAL-CORE 2 GHZ
RAM MEMORY: 2048 MB
GRAPHICS CARD: 256 MB 100% DIRECTX 9 AND SHADERS 3.0 COMPATIBLE
ATI RADEON HD 2600 XT/NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600 GT OR HIGHER
DVD-ROM: 2X DRIVE
HARD DISK SPACE: 14 GB
SOUND CARD: DIRECTX 9 COMPATIBLE
INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED FOR GAME ACTIVATION
CONTROLLER: KEYBOARD & MOUSE OR XBOX COMPATIBLE

I'm sorry to hear that, Mad. I think this is the first adventure game where the system requirements call for a dual core (or more) processor. However your video card meets the requirements.

Since you've already ordered it, I'd say to give it a try anyway. If you succeed, let us know your results. It may play, but be very slow -- provided it doesn't balk at your processor when you install it.

Hi Jenny100 smile

Yes, I might try installing it to see what happens - which I doubt will be much !! lol

[ The Witcher II is another game I have waiting for the next machine so Sherlock won't be alone wink ]

Cheers.

I hope you are "stuffing a sock with change" saving up for that new computer. Witcher II is excellent. We're a sad lot - buying new computers just so we can play our games!

I agree, give it a shot. When you get into the setup options, turn off (or at least down) all the bells and whistles. If the game seems responsive enough you can try adjusting them up a bit.

Sometimes , upgrading the computer is a constant process that can become a headache in very short order ! I've just made an upgrade to my computer , an Nvidia GTX 590 . I performed tye upgrade in preparatation for the release of Crysis 3 .

My next upgrade will have to be from the ground up as my motherboard is only SATA II and a 775 CPU socket.

In the same boat, Mad. It's a sad thing when you come to the end of your machines capabilities and can no longer enjoy new modern RPG's or even Adventure games without an upgrade or new system.

Having reached that point myself, I am absolutely determined to find someway to put money aside for a new system - preferably a top of the line, bleeding edge system with terabytes here, gigabytes there, the latest video card, ssd, turbo on turbo.... I think I'm getting carried away. think. Well we can all dream and then settle for something a little more than practical laugh

Please may i ask also for help on requirements, my laptop is Vista- Home premium, Intel (R) Core (TM) 2Duo CPU, T6400@ 2.GHz, 4.00GB RAM, mobile Intel(R)4 Series Express Chipset family.

I don't who if this helps or not but i DLed Secret Files 3 demo the other day and it ran fine with no hick-ups but i don't know if the requirement are near the same.

I have ordered Sherlock for Xbox360 just in case i can't play it on PC(I too am saving for new PC) but I'm not very good at the controls(you should have seen the Police car in L A Noire after i have finished the first case, not a pretty sight - LOL) but i don't want to miss playing Sherlock but maybe Xbox is my only hope, thank you for your help on this, i have my fingers crossed.

You were right to get it for the Xbox - that Intel Chipset probably wouldn't have played it.

I can't upgrade my XP machine any further - it has already been upgraded to its limit rolleyes

[Well I do have a slightly higher rated graphics card which I could get fitted but I don't think that would solve the problem.]

I intend to see if, first of all, the Sherlock game will install, and, if it will, try InlandAZ's suggestion smile

I have done well with my custom built machines. My Win98 (also upgraded to the nth) is now nearly 13 years old - still in use most days and still going strong. And my (current) XP machine is now nearly 9 years old and also still goin' like a good 'un.
So I must be very circumspect with my next custom built computer as I shall expect just as long a run from IT !! snicker
[Custom built computers are highly expensive here in the UK.]

Well, well, well !!!!!!!!!! Would you believe it ?????????
Last night I installed the new Sherlock on my aging XP machine and it absolutely WORKS bravo

The opening cut scenes played flawlessly and once I got cursor control I could navigate Sherlock round the room without any problems at all.

Inventory works and Save & Load works and everything else I tried works and the sound is just perfect.

The only thing I haven't yet managed is to pick up/examine anything - because the little tutorial navigation box stays on-screen and I don't know how to get rid of it !! lol

So can anyone help me with that, please ??

I'm overcome with emotion now so might have to go lie down for a while sherlock sherlock sherlock

Wheeeee!! yay I'm so glad that it's working for you, Mad.

Press the R on your keyboard a few times until Holmes is in third person and you have a pipe as your cursor. Then click an area onscreen and Holmes will move to it. That should cancel out the navigation box and move you on to the next point. You do need to follow the tutorial instructions that appear. luck

Thanks, Rushes smile

I've only played a little but I have to admit to finding the controls really weird and confusing woozy

Does the on-screen box thing ever disappear altogether and leave one free to investigate/interact in a more "normal" way ??

Cheers.

Yes, it'll only be there for the tutorial (the scene you're currently playing). Press R until you find the view that suits you best. Is the tutorial now telling you to move around and examine things -- the window, the music scores, etc, or is it still stuck at the very beginning?

Once you've started the game "proper" then you can move around as freely as you like.

I'm glad to hear the game is working for you, Mad.
Let us know how it goes. Maybe it doesn't need the dual processor after all.
