Haven't seen one of these threads for a bit. So, what are currently reading (besides GB, of course)?
I am reading The Hob's Bargain by Patricia Briggs.

I'm trying to find a copy of Steven Pressfield's Gates of Fire about the Spartans' stand at Thermopylae. (I'm an ancient history bug.) Library, here I come and I hope you have it! I've just finished (again) the very long but fascinating The Conquest of Mexico by William H. Prescott. Not so ancient historically but a great read.

Gil, I love the Library too. Used to cry as a kid as I could only check out 10 books at a time. Now I love sitting home at 2 a.m. and checking books out for my kindle...not having to worry about returning them as they expire.

Truman Capote's In Cold Blood, for the first time. He's one of my favourite writers, but this book has been sitting neglected on my shelf for 20 years. I'm about a third of the way through it, and haven't hit the grisly stuff yet. So that's my traumatic Christmas reading!

I loved Doctor Sleep too, judith.
I'm reading the second in the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness.
I recently finished the Country Saga and the Dwellers Saga series by David Estes. They are about what happens to the survivors of a huge comet which hits earth. Some end up living below ground and some live above ground. A bit on the "young adult" side, but still very good stories.
L4l, you sound just like me! Retirement and my Kindle are a wonderful combination!
Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.

I have two books going. James Patterson's Private Games, and Tess Gerritsen's Last to Die.
Drac, I have found some of the young adult series to be very good.

Rushes, I read that many years ago. Scared the patooties out of me.
Lotus, I bought Inferno but haven't read it yet.
Judith, for some reason I just can't get into Stephen King's books. I've tried several but.......Son and sister loves them.
Drac, love the All Souls triology and am very Impatiently waiting for the next one. Some of that YA stuff is very good. Maybe we are still young at heart?
Just finished The Hob's Bargain and am now diving into Orson Scott Card's Enchantment. I am not normally a big Card fan, so we shall see. That is the great lure of the library....dip my toe in here and there to see if I can discover a new "favorite."

Talk about something that will 'scare the patooties' out of you, have you ever read Red Dragon? They made a terrible movie out of it but I actually liked it better than Silence of the Lambs (same author), maybe because Harris made me feel an odd sort of sympathy for the monstrous guy who did such horrible things to people.

The Rocks Don't Lie: A Geologist Investigates Noah's Flood
This is an interesting read because it is not just about investigating Noah's Flood. He uses that as a hook to get you interested in learning about what geology can reveal about history. He's got a very engaging writing style.

Gerry, I don't think I've ever read Anne Perry. Will have to check her out.

It's Audio Books for me in the car. Finally finished (took me a whole year of driving short shopping trips to finish ALL 7 books of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. Wow. Ending really was unexpected and a twist that made me laugh out loud all alone in the car. People must have thought I was a nut.
Now listening to: Darkness. I forget who it's by but creepy creepy in the swamp happenings. Short book, won't take me a year. Probably finish today and then on to some other murder mystery type thing. Love those.
WARNING! This person is extremely blonde...please type SLOWLY.

I'm a great fan of Laurie R.King, The Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes adventures are a real good read for me. I've just finished Paris:The Novel by Edward Rutherfurd, I've only been to Paris once but the book took me back again, to Paris when I saw it, and how it started and grew as a city, incredible writing to do that.

Yesterday I finished and enjoyed We Are Water by Wally Lamb, and last night I started Carol O'Connell's new Mallory mystery, It Happens in the Dark. I have to ration myself, however, or I'll never get my Christmas cards done.

L4L, Anne Perry has two mystery series set in Victorian England. The main character in one is William Monk and in the other it is Thomas Pitt. I enjoy them both and recommend them if you like Victorian mysteries.
