Best adventure game ever played?

I enjoyed Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express but I think Gamespot didn't like it. Probably because, I didn't read her novel and I'm surprised of the ending.

So, what's the best adventure game you have ever played?

I would have to say Myst/Uru games,Rhem games and Syberia 1 and 2 games. Enjoyed them all so much.

For me it was The Longest Journey. If Gamespot does not like a game you can usually consider it must be good. When it comes to Adventure games Game spot usually trashes them, appears the joy stick jockeys over there don't like slow thoughtful games. If it does not blowup or kill everything in sight they don't like it.

I have to agree with that.

Monkey Island 2 for me. Here's my Top 50.

Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express could have been a perfect game if not for the repetition.

I read this review and it's enough to convince me it's not for me.



This repetition of going over the same locations and interrogating the suspects again and again does not appeal to me.

I must say the graphics is beautiful and striking.

I wonder if the murder investigation games like Sinking Island and Dead Mountaineer's Hotel will be of the same repetition type.

Yeah, I was very tired of fingerprint and footprint matching. I have to read a walkthrough if I am completely lost. This is the first "large file" adventure game I played.

Don't trust Gamespot. Their reviews especially for adventure games are preposterous!

For me:

a. The Longest Journey

b. Syberia 1,2

c. Still Life (in love with agent McPherson).

My all time personal favorite is Journeyman 3: Legacy of Time.

The Syberia games and all the Myst games

That is a really difficult question for me because i liked many games for various different reasons... I liked Broken Sword (especially the first 2), Syberia, Monkey Island but there are a dozen more in my heart...

It used to be Syberia 1 for its good story, loverly graphics and solverable puzzles but now it would be Lost Crown for the same reasons

There are so many favorites that I can't just narrow my choice down to one game. At the top of my list would be Syberia I and II, Shivers 1 and II, as well as the Gabriel Knight and Tex Murphy series. I also loved Still Life, The Black Mirror, NiBiRu, Tunguska and, of course, the Nancy Drew series. I've replayed (and re-enjoyed) all of them several times.

I don't think it's possible to list any single best adventure game I ever played.

Of first person adventures I like AFGNCAAP types -- the first three Myst games, Uru, and the Schizm games for their exotic and beautiful worlds as well as their puzzles. And I like the RHEM games for the puzzles, my favorite of the series being RHEM 2.

Of third person types I like The Longest Journey and Grim Fandango, mainly because the characters came to life for me, which tends to be somewhat rare in games.

Of comic type games I like Day of the Tentacle and Secret of Monkey Island. Day of the Tentacle is probably the funniest game I've ever played.

Next was Darkness Within ...Beyond the spirits EyE..

Then came Lost crown...

For first person puzzlers, Riven, or Obsidian. For comic adventures, Day of the Tentacle.

I guess if I had to limit it to one, Grim Fandango is probably the all time favorite for me. It is just funny, the charactors are great to interact with because you pick their answers, and the story line is great, it had me laughing out loud.

But a very close second, would be about 50 or more games all tied for second place!

For me, Gabriel Knight 2 for story and tremendous music were my favorite followed by GK 1 and 2. I also liked the Last Express and thought the story sf Shadow of Destiny very interesting. There are so many but because of the music, scenery, acting, story and music, GK was so memorable to me. Mel22odie

Gabriel Knight 1 & 2 (couldn't get into 3 because of the interface - why have some games dropped mouse movement and gone back to frustrating keyboard moves?)

Myst 1, 2 & 3 (4 & 5 on my desk waiting)

OK you now all see where my loyalties lie but IMO nobody has yet come anywhere near Sierra at their peak, but other favourites include Amerzone, Riddle of the Sphinx, Atlantis 3, Riddle of Master Lu ( yeah, not all that new either)

And let's not forget the progenitor of them all - the original Colossal Caves which was very exciting at the time, played on a teletype you could use the print out to help draw the maps, and plan future play.

Top of the list is probably QFG4, closely followed by Colossal Caves for letting me discover the sheer excitement of AGs, and Camelot for revealing what an AG could look like. I said then, and still say someone should do CC as a graphics based game, ideally in the "point & click" rendition that that Sierra was using at the stage of QFG3 onwards.

For me, it's Gabriel Knight 3 - Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned, closely followed by GK2 - The Beast Within and Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars. I also loved The Longest Journey - what a beautiful game! After about 30 hours of playing, I was pretty upset when it ended *g*

For me its still URU.Its the only game that made me feel like I was in the game.

Those URU - Myst games really seem endless for me... I didn't like at all URU but i enjoyed Myst IV

I reckon for me the best adventure game would have to be Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis since I played it 6 times, but then I'm a great big Indy fan.
Besides Indy my favorite games are really my favorite characters, like King Graham, Rosella, Roger Wilco, Gabe Knight, George Stobbart, Kate Walker/Oscar, and of course, Guybrush Threepwood! These live on forever!

I just finished playing Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None! I think it is the best one I've played, yet. It is the second adventure game I played.

Ones I have started to play and didn't really like but heard a lot of people like is the Longest Journey and Dreamfall. Two others I couldn't get into is Diamonds in The Rough and Mysterious Island. I did play Keepsake all the way through it was OK. But everyone has there own likes and dislikes.
Right now I have 3 games ready for me to play and one is on its way to my house from Dave at Interact, I don't know which one to play first.

I play adventures since King's Quest I and the early Larry adventures.

I love the older games, so for me it would be 7th Guest, 11th Hour and Phantasmagoria

Phantasmagoria....that game scared me so much I couldn't finish it, although it was fascinating in many ways. I wonder if it would be different now after all this time.

I loved the music of Phantasmagoria! I wish I could get a copy of it when she shut the door to the secret room where Carno's body is

Hey Phoebe, I do have a lot of favorite games thats why I couldn't list just a couple. There is only a few that I found that I didn't like that I thought I would. I only started playing games on a regular basics for a little over 2 years now and I love it. I try to really investigate a game before I buy it. I have 4 games right now I haven't played yet. But I don't know which to play first I usually play on my home PC , but Iam going on a camping trip in 2 weeks, so I bought a nice laptop so I can play one of my games if it gets rainy out while camping. Sherlock Holmes Nemesis is my personal favourite from your list (although I haven't played Dracula Origin yet). Nemesis is a very challenging game! If you fancy something a little less difficult but still with a good story and puzzles, then I'd recommend Art of Murder. I played this one very recently and had a great time with it.

Thanks Rushes, I think thats what I will do. I trust Sherlock Holmes people for putting out good games . Then I think I might play Dracula Origin next. There is a new thread started by Midge where others are saying that they are really enjoying playing Dracula Origin. Thanks for the input.

I'm trying not to read that thread because my game is still on pre-order. Really looking forward to it!

i like Myst, Riven, Riddle of the Sphinx, Shivers 1, Last Half of Darkness games, Gabriel Knight-Best Within...lots more but those are ones that come to mind first.
