Lighthouse Interactive Bankrupt - 03/26/09 06:03 AM

I wonder what this means for the release dates of games I was looking forward to, such as Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel & Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage.
If the Publisher goes out of business, what does that mean for the Developer of the upcoming games? And us as consumers?

Quote:
NEWS:March 23, 2009 Dutch/Canadian videogame publisher, Lighthouse Interactive has officially been declared bankrupt. A spokesperson pointed out that due to the demise of its parent company Silverbirch Incorporated and the bankruptcy of its largest debtor Pinnacle Entertainment, Lighthouse was unable to carry on.
Lighthouse Interactive was sold to SilverBirch Inc in 2008 and was a wholly owned subsidiary. The company was best known for publishing many critically acclaimed PC titles including Ship Simulator, Sword of the Stars and Overclocked.
The Lighthouse personnel would like to thank all business partners, press and its customers for their support over the past years.

That's very sad, unless the developers change publishers, these games will not see the light of day. For us the consumers it's in my opinion just as bad, Adventure games are not that popular among gamers and publishers and developers rarely see good sales of their products. I unfortunately believe that this incident is only the start to what's about to follow.

What a shame. I would hope another publisher would keep Lighthouse a float!

Re: Lighthouse Interactive Bankrupt - 03/26/09 09:27 AM

They didn't only do Adventure games, they also did strategy games. Indeed, East India Company was one of them, about to be released soon, and I was panicking the game would be scrapped. Luckily it's still going to be published- now by Paradox interactive.

Sword of the Stars was another.
I must say I am very sad, as I really liked the games they published.
Overclocked was one of my favourites, btw. frown

So it was Pinnacle Entertainment that was the leg that was kicked out from under the chair? I did wonder why I hadn't been able to access the Pinnacle site recently.

I sincerely hope that the developers find new publishers!

That is sad news. I feel bad for all of the Lighthouse employees! frown Overclocked was one of my favorite games of 2008.

Hopefully, all of the games that were going to be published under Lighthouse are able to find other publishers.

This is not good news at all. Lighthouse was one of the oldest companies. If it can go down, what about others?

Re: Lighthouse Interactive Bankrupt - 03/27/09 07:51 PM

This is very sad sad

I sure hope another publisher picks them up seeing that they have some really good games in the process of finishing like Dead Mountaineers Hotel and others. It sure would be a sad thing to throw all of that good hard work away that has already been done on the game so far. Some publisher has to be out there that is smart enough to see what great games they would be. To scrap those games would be such a waste sad.

I think they started publishing games in 2004 or 2005. Hardly one of the oldest publishers around. Also, they have never, as far as I know, developed any games on their own and haven't financed the development of adventure games themselves. Only published already finished ones.

Still, bad news indeed, for the people concerned and adventure gamers. But good developers will hopefully find other publishing options.

"But good developers will hopefully find other publishing options."

That's how I feel - and why I said I didn't agree with the depressing statetment (below) that was made earlier in this thread yes

Unfortunately, Lighthouse may be the "canary in the coal mine."

Re: Lighthouse Interactive Bankrupt - 03/29/09 04:20 AM

Gobobby ....

Lighthouse was NOT one of the oldest companies and what's more, I refuse to go along with this depressing notion that its collapse is only the first of many.

Re: Lighthouse Interactive Bankrupt - 03/29/09 07:24 AM

Lighthouse itself not, but it rose from the ashes of Project Two/Three Interactive, publishers of Reah, Liath, Schizm, The Ark of TIme and Alida. So the people behind it have been publishing adventure games for ages...

Re: Lighthouse Interactive Bankrupt - 03/30/09 02:28 AM

I also disagree that adventure games are not a top seller. There was a time this was true, but with the great games that have been released over the years, I don't believe it is true any longer.

I also agree with what Mad wrote, I don't believe this is the demise of the game companies even in this Economy.

I do hope someone will buy the rights to finish the games in the making. This is disappointing news because I have had dead mountaineer hotel on pre order since Interact advertised it.
