Green Graphics of Name the Game - 07/21/09 01:49 PM
The time has come to start a new thread for our favorite adventure guessing game. (If you wish to see the last page of the previous Name the Game thread,
click here.)These are the rules:One person (hereinafter known as "It") posts a clue to an adventure game. The clue can be simple or difficult or creative or dastardly or even poetic. Clues can be information about characters or events or puzzles or more (though we do try to stay away from outright puzzle spoilers).
When thinking up clues, a good place to look for possible ideas is the GameBoomers collection of adventure walkthroughs (plenty of inspiration there). You can also look up adventure game titles and information in
the PAGODA Game Database for more ideas.
Everyone who wishes to participate, posts the name of the game that best matches the clue. If no one has guessed after a few attempts, "It" gives another clue. The person who guesses correctly then becomes "It" and posts a clue for a different game, and so on.
Sometimes people who think they've guessed the game but don't wish to name it will also post a clue -- please do this only if "It," along with the first clue, posts "Extra Clues are Welcome (ECAW)." Of course, keep in mind that sometimes the "Extra Clues" may be "red herrings."
****************************************************
Mad has just correctly guessed that the answer to chrissie's clues is: Yoomujak's Ring and so Mad is IT.
The clues Mad has just given are:
A clue then ....
"Lots to explore in this farmhouse but be sure to use that water pump !!"
EDIT :No guesses ??
Another clue then ....
If we can find a way to get inside that farmhouse we should come face to face with the Devil
[Well, his likeness, anyway
]
Clue 3 then ....
Leave the farmhouse
well behind and next go on a bell search in a village
EDIT :If there are no guesses after this 4th clue, will someone else please take over as my clues must be useless
Clue 4 ....
You can use a shrinking spell to get where you need to go !!

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 07/21/09 01:58 PM
So Mad's clues above would indicate a game in which there is a farmhouse, with a well and a water pump, a way to come face-to-face with the devil, a bell search in a village and the use of a shrinking spell.
I'm afraid that I don't recognize this game, despite these good clues, though it sounds a bit Kings Questish to me.
Anyone else?

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 07/21/09 02:24 PM
I don't recognize it either, but Google (is that allowed?) clearly suggests The legend of crystal valley.

Ahhhhh I would be recognizing the game, but only because I wrote a review of it. And I liked it!

Google is allowed in extremis.
There's an even more efficient search method when thoroughly stuck, but I'm not revealing my secret techniques.

Well, now owing a

The Legend of Crystal Valley?
edit: nvm already been suggested.

That would have been really cunning, to have it be Crystal valley again.
Unfortunately I'm not that sharp.
I forgot to mention that the clue is about the gametitle.

Good guesses, but the clue is to be taken a bit more metaphorically.
The next clue is for a word in title.
The first letter is me, not you.
The second for my eyes to do.
Never mind about the third
Now I've already said the word.

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 08/19/09 09:25 PM
I have no idea, but Hamlet fits most of the first clue too well:
"Godless dwelling for pastry monarch"
dwelling= hamlet
pastry monarch= Danish king.
Posted By: flotsam
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 08/19/09 11:58 PM
Well done shany - and a hamlet has no churches (hence godless).
To explain my other obscure clues, ham was noah's son and rent is to let, so rearanged you get hamlet. And a quiet ruminant was a silent lamb, made by Jonathon Demme - cut of his head and you get Emme, the developer of Hamlet.
You can probably guess cryptics aren't my strong point

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/13/09 10:33 AM
Hm, no. How does return to Zork fit the clue?
I haven't played the game, so the clue only refers to the title.
Posted By: Mad
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/13/09 10:47 AM
I didn't realise the clue only related to the game title
There is a vulture that plays quite an important role In Return to Zork and also Return to Zork was released within the time frame you cited.
So that's why I used it for a guess
Posted By: HandsFree
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/13/09 12:22 PM
Ah, I didn't know that. Return to Zork is still on my to-find-list.
The game is about a specific type of vulture...

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/26/09 03:08 PM
I'm also thinking of a more recent game.
Clues will be quotations -- each quote will contain one word that is part of the story in the game.
Clue 1: "Should I speak ill of him that is my husband?"
Posted By: sierramindy
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/26/09 07:28 PM
No, I don't think she should speak ill if she can avoid it, but unfortunately that doesn't help me with the name!
Posted By: Becky
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/27/09 03:39 PM
Clue #2 -- one word in this quotation refers to something else in the plot of this game:
"When he crosses the slow moving clouds
And sails upon the heart of the
wind."
Posted By: jody319
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/28/09 12:23 PM
I haven't played it, but it sounds like "Heaven" in the words that I have heard others talk of when talking of the game.
Posted By: Becky
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/28/09 04:45 PM
Not Heaven, sorry! No husbands in it, for instance.
Clue #3 -- one word in this quotation refers to something that is part of the gameworld.
"No,'t is not so deep as a well, nor so wide as a church-door; but 't is enough."
Posted By: Becky
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/29/09 11:45 AM
Clue # 4 -- one word in this quotation refers to something that is used early in the game.
"Will you pluck your sword out of his pitcher
by the ears?"
Posted By: Becky
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 09/30/09 03:38 PM
I see the quotation innovation is too obscure.
I've gone back and put the clues within the quotations into boldface.
Clue #5 --
"O that I were a glove upon that
hand"

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 10/03/09 03:07 PM
I haven't got a clue really but I'll have a guess at Rhiannon?
Posted By: Becky
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 10/03/09 04:47 PM
Not Rhiannon, sorry!
Clue #6 --
"A plague o' both your houses" or a modernization of the quote: "A pox on both your houses"

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 10/04/09 09:37 AM
Ah, Tales of Monkey Island (the first episode?)
Posted By: Becky
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 10/04/09 12:34 PM
Yes, you got it, Shany. I guess the quotations idea is too, err, out there.
The quotations are from Romeo and Juliet. Originally I was going to quote something about the balcony (because De Singe stands on his balcony) but was surprised that "balcony" is never actually mentioned in the text of Romeo and Juliet.
So much for innovation.
Posted By: sierramindy
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 10/04/09 05:05 PM
I thought that "glove upon the hand" sounded like Romeo, but I couldn't think of a game that had him in it. So much for that clue.
Posted By: Shany
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 10/04/09 05:44 PM
I knew the first quote sounded familiar but couldn't place it. The last quote I did recognize.
And I studied Romeo and Juliet this year! Talk about a short memory.
Why does this woman insult the man who loves her? Wait, is that actually his name?

Shany -- scratching my head here. Need another clue.

Pretty gruesome death scene... wait, that's not blood, it's wine!

Thanks Becky.
In this game the protagonist is far less known let alone popular! She is a 12 year old orphan.
Posted By: chrissie
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 10/22/09 07:37 PM
OKay, next clue: the young protagonist,in this older game, has to go out & do errands for her headmistress.
EDIT: or should it be for her headmistresses?

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 10/26/09 02:15 AM
Well, I must have given two poor clues - not a single guess ??
So, if no-one has a go after this 3rd clue I will "retire" and someone else can start with a different game.
Clue 3 :
Malta, Italy and Istanbul. Certainly getting some travelling done
Posted By: Mad
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 10/27/09 03:54 AM
OK. Retirement time
The game was "Chronicles of Mystery: The Scorpio Ritual".

Thanks Mad!
I think the regular clue-givers are wearing out a bit. Would someone new like to post a clue? (Doesn't have to be fancy, you know!)
So many people view this thread (and write and say they enjoy it) that there must be others who can post clues.

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/04/09 06:28 AM
I'll give a clue but I'm not sure if I can think of a second one to go with it, but I will try. Anyway, here goes:
You can learn the answer to "What do you do with a drunken sailer early in the morning?" in the game.

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/04/09 04:11 PM
Good guesses, but not right. Now I have to wrack (or is it wreck?) my brain to find another clue, yipe!
Hmmm ... You have to distract a guard by throwing fruit or berries at him.
Posted By: chrissie
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/04/09 07:01 PM
I love your clues sierramindy!
I know there's a drunken sailor in So Blonde? but don't recall having to throw fruit at him!
Posted By: sierramindy
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/04/09 08:43 PM
Nope, I haven't played So Blonde so the drunken sailor is just a coincidence. Not even a character in this game. That's almose another clue so I will wait a couple of hours to see if there are more guesses before I give another more official clue.
Okay, here is another clue:
"Monkey see, monkey do," is an old saying and applies very well in this game as one has to get a monkey in a cage in a zoo to mimic your actions so that it will throw something out of the cage that you need to use elsewhere to get another animal to do something.

Right on, Becky, that's the game ... one of my faves of all time! What gave it away?
And yes, misslilo, there was a hoop in the game. You were on the right track.
Posted By: Becky
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/05/09 08:01 PM
The zoo clinched it.
Here we are at the Sedge Marsh Nature Reserve. Nothing the least bit frightening about it, right?
Posted By: chrissie
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/05/09 10:18 PM
I immediately thought The Lost Crown & then I thought that the place you are in is called The Sedge Marsh Nature Reserve so that could apply to a Nancy Drew game also!

It was The Lost Crown - I just got sidetracked!
Okay maybe it's ND & I'll try Danger on Deception Island

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/08/09 12:28 PM
It is one of the Art of Murder games Becky! - I was going to post another clue yesterday but my PC decided to have a day off! (I've yet to get the fans replaced/fixed so it's a bit temperamental)
Clue as to which one:
Posted By: Becky
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/08/09 01:30 PM
Get the fans replaced before your motherboard (or something else vital and expensive) fries!
Mulling over the clue. Anyone else is welcome to guess at it too.
EDIT: A very interesting way to play keyboards. What would Mozart have said about it, I wonder?
Posted By: chrissie
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/08/09 09:58 PM
Fans are to be done at the beginning of December Becky
(they've been off & on for over a year now & there's no other problems re diagnostic check)
I can imagine Mozart as a young musician being quite excited about being able to have the freedom to 'bounce around' while playing the very unsteady keyboard?
or maybe not!
Hush = Ssh - don't tell anyone, it's private!

Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/10/09 07:06 PM
Is anyone going to have a guess? It's an Art of Murder game - which one? Is it FBI Confidential or Hunt for the Puppeteer? I don't think more clues are needed - just some interest or maybe confidence to post some clues - they can be as simple and straightforward as you like!
Posted By: sierramindy
Re: Red Replica of Name the Game - 11/10/09 08:14 PM
It's a 50/50 chance since I don't click on unknown to me links for the real clues, but I will guess Hunt for the Puppeteer (which I started to play but couldn'f finish due to glitch) because Of Becky's keyboard remarks. I know there is a piano in AoM 2.

N.B. I've just had a browse through your review Becky
