Old Computer Game situated mostly in the Himalyas sp? - 03/21/13 10:25 PM

I remember when I first started playing computer games, there was this wonderful game, where part of, or all of it, was based in Tibet. The graphics, sound, everything were fantastic. I'm estimating around 1999 or 2000. Does anyone remember this game? If it were playable on Windows7, I'd love it.

Thanks for any help.

No. The game showed a lot of snow, gongs, I believe, even a spring scene with flowers and birds. I really wish I could remember the theme. It was a wonderful game. Thanks, though.

Sounds like Journeyman Project 3 to me. I'm pretty sure it's available on gog.com, and will work on Windows 7 too.

GreyFuss: I believe it was first person. Gremlin: At first, I thought you had it, but looked at screen shots and *sigh* no. I believe it involved a monastery, you had to solve a gong puzzle, fight blizzards. Wish I could remember more about it.

Lost Horizon? It was set in World War 2 and involved German soldiers and a Tibetan monastery.

Atlantis 2 could fit your description and the year.

Once again, I thought Bristol had it, but "sob" no. Chief, also not Atlantis 2. I wish I could give a prize to someone who gets this. (maybe I can!).

I have vague memories of a young monk being taught by a very old man in a ship on land. He had to touch certain spots on a mandala? and be transported to different places or times? Any bells anyone? I remember it started with the young monk making his way through a terrific snowstorm to the monastery.

Sounds a little like Atlantis II, which had a Tibet area at the beginning of the game (and possibly at the end).

Schizm: Mysterious Journey had a monastery and ***prayer wheels***, but it wasn't Tibet.

Reah had a gong puzzle, but not much snow

Sentinel had a lot of snow in the Sanselard area, but it wasn't Tibet.

Aura had a gong puzzle -- and snowy areas, again not Tibet

Yes that sounds a lot like Atlantis II (Beyond Atlantis).

Just remembered a scene, I think, where a man is stranded in the snow, and you have you help save him? I can see these things in my head, but just can't get it. (good grief!)

It sure sounds like Beyond Atlantis (Atlantis II). It opens with the young monk trudging through the snow to a ship where the old monk is waiting. There is a mandala on the wall which takes the young monk to different worlds : China, Ireland, and the Mayan world. The game ends in Shambala, which is very spring-like and pretty. This was one of my favorite games.

Was that when you played it or when the game was published? If it's when the game was published, you might check the Pagoda database by year to see what was published in 1999 or 2000. If it was when you played the game, you might check earlier years too.

Can you remember anything else about the game? Were there live actors in the game or were the characters computer-rendered? If it was 1st person, was there panning? Was it a fantasy type game or a more "realistic" game? Was it edutainment? (maybe something like Vikings or Physicus) Was it heavy on puzzles? Were there a lot of conversations and character interaction in it or was it mostly a solitary game?

A couple of other games I liked from around 1999 are Timelapse and Morpheus, but I don't remember if I rescued anyone stuck in the snow in those.

I think it could be Riddle of master Lu.

Oh, please someone, remember this game for Laurette.
It sounds just the sort of game I would love to play. I so enjoyed Atlantis 2 but Laurette seems pretty sure this wasn't the game.

Re: Old Computer Game situated mostly in the Himalyas sp? - 03/22/13 03:53 PM

Thanks everyone. Jenny100: What I'm remembering is I thought it was strictly 1st person; the puzzles were, like oriental music bells where you had to play them in the right order. You had to figure out how to lower a bridge to proceed to the other side. It did involve a monastery (as I mentioned). And, I believe I played it in 1999 or 2000, but it may have been made earlier. The graphics and sound were way ahead of their time. I'll look on the website you mentioned. Thank you.

After visiting the website, I had thought Journeyman Project: Legacy of Time was it. However, after looking at the pictures I don't remember it as being science fictiony (is that a word). I then thought it was "Beyond Time," but am still looking for the snow scene. I believe it did involve different locations, but am not sure. I'm almost sorry I brought this up!

So far everything you have described is from the HIMALAYAN MOUNTAIN portion of Legacy of Time as others have suggested. From the snow, first person, time of release, sound bells, dropping a bridge, monastery.. everything. I still have the GOG version on my computer if you would like for me to get a certain screenshot

Greyfuss: I believe you got it! I was looking for the snow scenes (for some reason I remember that a lot, even though I don't like snow!)

Thank you and everybody who tried to help.

The GOG version is playable on Windows 7 and is only $5.99 at the moment.

It doesn't seem to be very "science fictiony" while you're playing because for most of the game you're in historical environments.

This made for interesting reading for me even though I don't know any of these games. I just bought The Journeyman Project 2 and 3 as a package deal from GOG. Looking forward to exploring a new world.

Re: Old Computer Game situated mostly in the Himalyas sp? - 03/22/13 11:49 PM

I was also going to suggest Schizm. There is a whole section in a temple in the mountains, where you have to play bells (prayer wheels) in a certain order to match the chant of the monks. There is also an incredibly difficult bridge puzzle where you have to lower it by sections to get to the other side. I guess there are a lot of older games that fit the description.

I've just bought Journeyman Project from GOG also. Looking forward to playing this game.
Thanks to Laurette, Greyfuss and Jenny 100 for bringing this to my attention.

SuMac, thank you for mentioning Schizm; there was another game I was trying to remember involving bells and a bridge, and Schizm was the one. Now I can stop trying to remember what it was. grin

Meryl and Bob, I hope you enjoy the game. wave

Hey, didn't I suggest JP3 on GOG.com about half-way down the first page of replies? Oh well.

Gremlin: I am SO sorry! I did mention I was fixated on the snow scene and didn't look hard enough at some of the responses. Your input is and was greatly appreciated.

BobH: Enjoy!

Oh My !!!!!!!! What great memories this thread offered for me. So many great games that were in the past that I had forgotten about. You are driving me to my old disc collection to reload some of them.

Been gameing for a long time and have gotten involved recently in the Hidden Object type and had neglected the older Adventure gems on my shelf. Thanks for bumping me out of my slumber.

All of you have a wonderful Easter. Enjoy family and the little ones. I will enjoy some of the greats who will stop by on their way to Oregon for a week at the beach.
