Your top 5-10 favourite HOGs?

Your top 5-10 favourite HOGs? - 04/26/08 02:20 PM

I've been wondering this for a long time now. What are your top 5-10 favourite hidden object games that combine mini-games or other puzzles?

Since I got hooked on HOGs a little while ago, I'm always on the lookout for games that were popular but that I might not have known about (e.g., The Scruffs -- thought it was purely a kid's game until reading a review about it on Gamezebo, so I bought it yesterday).

All MCF games are at top of my list in descending order (i.e. Madame Fate at the top, etc.) -- a testament to the awesome work and development by Big Fish Games. Followed by (so far) Hidden Object Show which I'm enjoying a lot. Not sure what else follows. I have purchased a bunch more HOGs including the Agatha Christie ones but haven't finished them yet (I tend to hop from game to game).

Also, not sure if I should count Azada on this list? I don't really see it as a HOG but it was my first Casual Game and got me started in this genre. If I'm including it then it's definitely near the top of my list.

So, what's your favourites? smile

I really liked Escape the Museum and also Hidden Secrets-The Nightmare. I like a variety of mini puzzles in my games, the more the merrier that's why Azada has to be my favorite game of all, and am looking forward to seeing the next one.

Of course I started with the MCF games and have them all, and Madame Fate, for variety, is the best of them.

I did enjoy, "Do You See What I See" it was different and had a bit of challenge to it.

The HOG games have evolved so much, that your favorite could be replaced any day with a new and improved game, where will it end, who will create the ultimate HOG or will it fade like all fads when something entirely new comes along. What that something new would be is a mystery to be unraveled and presented to all of us patiently waiting game fans.

Big City Adventure San Francisco
Agatha Christie Peril at End House
Mortimer Beckett (wish it were longer though)
Forgotten Riddles The Mayan Princess
Dream Day First Home (First one wasn't that great).
Both Hidden Expeditions
The Scuffs

I liked a lot more, but those are my favs.

Rushes, you've got to try the Mystery Case File games. They get harder each game with more inventive puzzles. If you like a challenge, then try Madame Fate. If you want to start with something easier, then start with Huntsville or Prime Suspects.

I've read about the Mystery Case File games, they sound very good. I'll get around to playing more HOGs some day, and I think they'll be the ones to go for.

MCF Madam Fate
Escape the Museum
The Scruffs
Mortimer Beckett
Hidden Secrets: The Nightmare

Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile

And I'm quite enjoying The Hidden Object Game although I'm waiting for my monthly credit to buy it.

My favorites are...

Madame Fate
Ravenshearst
Escape the Museum
Big City Adventure Sydney
Big City Adventure San Francisco

I love the facts about the cities in the Big City games and the hidden objects were about just right as far as how hard or easy to find and the mini games were fun. I am about half way through the Museum and I love the escape the room parts and the object finding isn't too hard most of the time. Ravenshearst and Madame are my favorites with the fun mini games that really set these games apart as my all time favorites right now.

Miss Teri Tale was pretty good, but almost too easy with the ability to always get hints. Agatha Christie Death on the Nile was interesting story wise, but I got frustrated with how difficult it got to find anything. The Scruffs was fun too, but always Scribbles as the mini game was a little much.

I love the HOG's when they have interesting and fun mini games and story lines, not just finding objects, especially when they are impossible to see. crazy

I've played at least the demo of most of these games. There are some I didn't care for but most are great entertainment. My favorite, so far, is Mortimer Beckett. The rest are kind of in a lump but all mentioned above in the other posts. I'm sure there are gamers out there who haven't tried HOGs because the premise doesn't sound very, I don't know, would you say adult level entertainment? They are truely missing out on a whole new genre of gaming.

Out of 13 HOGs that I have played so far, these are my faves:
1. Mortimer Beckett and the Secrets of Spooky Manor
2. Hidden Mysteries - Civil War
3. Blood Ties
4. Natalie Brooks: Secrets of Treasure House
5. Curse of the Pharaoh: The Quest for Nefertiti
and maybe:
6. Big City Adventure: Sydney, Australia
but it dragged on too long and got boring near the end.

I agree with you sierramindy! Big City Sydney was too long. I really liked B C San Francisco. It was long also but I didn't get bored with it!

You all have pretty much covered all my favorites, but there are two that were missing from the list:

Hidden Expedition: Everest (A really good game that I thought was in the best of the BFG tradition and better than Titanic in my view - I absolutely CAN NOT WAIT for the next one!!)

Hidden Relics (Often overlooked, but I really liked this game and thought it added some interesting game techniques - I'm looking forward to a follow up.)

Other than that, any and all of the MCF, Agatha Christie or Big City series games would make it to my Top 10.

(I'd really like to be able to say that about the Travelogue 360 series as well, but I'm stuck in a department store ... a department store?)

I also have high hopes for the Mystery P.I. series and Hidden Mysteries - Civil War, which I hope will become a series.

It is really hard to pick--I happen to like the ones where you have a variety of minigames MCF all 4 are my favs as well as Escape the Museum, Hidden Nightmare, Mortimer Beckett, Cook Quest(way too short), Mayan Princess, and Azada. These interacted in certain ways and they were challenging. I love the Dream Day and 'Ville' series as well.
